Chapter 1: Moving

"Alice," my Dad pleaded. "Please. Pack your bags so we can go to the new house."
I was sitting on my favorite bean bag chair reading a book. I put the book down and looked up at him.
"Make. Me." I said coldly.
"I can't." Was his reply. Then he continued, "But you can forget everything that's happened here and start over if you just come with me."
Suddenly, I was angry.
"Is that why you want to leave so badly! Because you want to forget about mom!"
He winced. I didn't care, he was being completely unreasonable.
"I'm not leaving. The end." I went back to reading my book, putting earbuds in to block out further conversations. The music blasted at full volume hurting my ears a little but I didn't care anymore. Dad shuffled out of the room, knowing that he had lost the argument.
I read until 9:00 pm, which was when I finished my book. Setting it on my shelf I walked over to my bed. It had been a long boring day so I was exhausted. As soon as I put my head on the pillow, I fell asleep.
In my dream, there was wind blowing. My reddish-brown hair was swirling around my head. I attempted to smack it away, without prevail.
A me-sized mirror appeared. As soon as I looked in it, the wind stopped. My brown eyes were flashing golden yellow and my hair was perfect somehow. I had a baggy dress on, obviously a size too big. And worst of all, it was pink. I've never been pretty, but somehow I was. It looked like someone put pounds of makeup on my face. I had something in my hand, I looked down, it was a key and some sort of locket. The key was beautiful, with a sun on the top of it. And the locket also had a spiral sun on it. A woman emerged from the mist that was surrounding me. She was wearing the same dress as me, but it was white and it actually fit her. Her curly long blonde hair flowed behind her, and I could see her sparkling blue eyes from where I stood. It was my mother.
"Alice," she called. "Alice listen to your father. Go to the new house, honey. Just trust me, okay?" She started to fade away.
"No! Mom! Stay here!" I yelled. She still disappeared, and I woke up, screaming. I wiped the tears from my eyes as Dad was walking through my bedroom door. He had a startled look on his face. All I said was, "I'm going to the new house."
His startled look deepened.
"And why is that?"
"Because...I feel like it?" I answered.
"Alice," he started. "This has to stop." He put his head in one of his hands. "You're pushing everyone away. Autumn, Jane, Larry, and me."
"I'm not pushing them away. I talk to Autumn every day, and the only reason that I'm not speaking to Jane and Larry is because they're being jerks."
He nodded.
"The reason that I want to move is not because I want to forget your mom. It's because I think you need a blank slate. Somewhere to start over ya know?"
"Yeah, I get it. I just really miss her."
"I know, I do too." He replied.
I took in a deep breath.
He started out the door.
"Where do I start school?"
He turned to look at me.
"Tampa High." He replied.
Then he left.
And I went to sleep.
And I didn't see my mother.
