chapter three
The time spam of two weeks pass, and the Zvahl siblings seemed to be adapting quickly to the change of life and to their new school.
Cadenza has become the apple of a few males eyes with her pale and flawless complexion with a laugh as sweet as sugar. Although appearing to be aggressive from time to time, her kind personality draws the boys in like a worm on a hook while her slightly flirty persona only temps them more to advance on the girl in a possible relationship only for her to shoot them down claiming that she isn't ready for one yet.
The Zvahl family have oftentimes worried for Cadenza not being able to settle down as she gets older due to her habit of going through with quick flings. She is in her senior yeah, a seventeen year old girl with a bright future ahead of her with her fashion designing and leader like skills. They want her to break away from what Hayden calls her "childish acts" and begin to look for a long lasting relationship where she could possibly think of spending the rest of her life with him. Of course it's farfetched, but Hayden can't help but worry for his daughter's future that could be damaged by her actions. And with having a little sister who looked up to her older, Hayden didn't want her to influence Alex wrongly.
Laurance has gone from girl to girl flirting up a storm. His looks help him in letting the ladies swoon at his feet as they fall dangerously for him because of his appearance. He calls it a blessing and a curse but finds amusement in it nonetheless. He has grown closer to Garroth Ro'meave, and the two have now considered each other brothers and best friends as they feel as though they have known each other for their entire life rather than just two weeks. He also seems to be Laurance's partner in crime as the two seem to get along quite well and understand the pain of their beauty. And although he isn't getting far on wooing Y/N, she has now decided to become his friend and overlook their first interaction.
As for little Alex, she continues to be engaged in her studies but has discovered that she can sneak in and out of her bedroom window due to the tree directly outside of it. Although she doesn't do it often, the little outings she makes only to hang out under the tree itself she considers baby steps and quite thrilling nonetheless. She's grown closer to Y/N and finds her to be like another sister. Y/N tells her stories and gives her information that she needs to know via the people around her or even just for the fun of it. But one of her favorite people to text happen to be the same person who keeps her up a little bit past her bedtime, giggling, and that's Vylad Ro'meave, her brother's best friend's youngest brother. She was right when she said that they hit it off on her first day of school, and they can't seem but talk and be almost inseparable ever since. It's not everyday you find a boy you find attractive and kind that is your age and understands your situation in school and roles in families everyday.
Both Cadenza and Alex are daddy's girls, although that could only be greatly influenced by never growing up with a mother, but Hayden didn't wish for his babies to grow up. Cadenza would be off to college in the next school year, and Alex would graduate at the age of seventeen due to her advancements in her education. And with Laurance, he was already on his junior year and Hayden didn't want to let go of any of his children. He wanted to wrap them up in bubble wrap and lock them in the basement so they couldn't grow up or get hurt because of the harsh realities of life. He wanted to take himself and his children to Neverland to meet Peter Pan and never age once again.
Hayden remembers the early days of their childhoods with the thrill of being a new dad of three. Even though he missed the times of when they were babies, he loved them nonetheless.
His wife had died years prior during childbirth, and he thought he would never find love again. After hearing the news of his wife's death but the baby's survival, Hayden vowed to shower the baby with enough love and affection that could seem to be from two people. Although, Hayden wasn't able to fulfill his promises. The baby didn't get to live past the third day and passed in the hospital. Hayden questioned what he did wrong for such a tragedy to fall upon his hands. But soon after a large portion of grieving and listening to those around him, he came to the conclusion that it wasn't his fault.
This didn't stop him however from wanting to make a change. He wanted to give children the life he couldn't give his very own baby, or even future babies, and he decided to be a single dad and adopt. And once he adopted, he began to feel as though he did something right in his life. But now with his children growing up, meeting Peter Pan was only an unreachable dream in his eyes.
When they were younger, the three Zvahl children would cuddle up together with their father and watch movies together on the couch. And because of a young Alex fearing that if she didn't watch Peter Pan every night before bedtime that she'd get nightmares, Hayden was very familiar with Peter Pan.
Both Zvahl sisters had found the young Wendy to be very pretty and wished to be like her when they grew up, and Laurance had even managed to grow some form of crush on the fictional female. Cadenza would yell at the mermaids for being so mean to Wendy and being upset with Tiger Lily because of the attention she stole away from Wendy in Peter's eyes. Laurance never once refused to watch Peter Pan, and he even encouraged to watch it a second time each night, but his plans were foiled by a sleepy yawn slipping past his lips causing Hayden to shut off the TV and tuck the three into bed.
Hayden remembers during this time that Cadenza found an interest in fashion and would draw absurd dresses that she would now turn her nose against and call crazy to. She would beg for her father to find her a dress for bed like Wendy's, and would even try to act like the female towards her little siblings. While a little five year old Alex tried to do the same thing as Cadenza and twirl around in their room dressed in her little footie pajamas claiming that she'd find her own Peter Pan one day only to trip and fall down with her teddy bear onto her butt and begin to cry. She was more like Michael in Cadenza's eyes, but she didn't want to break her little sister's heart and told her that she'd keep her little sewing set in a drawer in their room incase a cute boy's shadow happens to wander into their room. Of course it never did, and Cadenza was even boy crazy as a child, but Hayden wanted his children to have a happy life and didn't want to break the truth to them that there wasn't a Neverland and people do grow up.
The years passed, and Alex grew out of her phase, and Laurance lost his crush on Wendy. Cadenza would begin to press pins into her siblings' bodies when sewing and would soon get her first boyfriend of three months in the seventh grade. Cadenza learned what makeup was, and Laurance's passion in soccer grew from when he was introduced to it in the second grade. Hayden had to go bra shopping with both females and almost cried doing so as he felt as though his babies weren't babies anymore only for Laurance to question Hayden about his growing and changing body. Hayden had gone through the birds and bees talk three times, and he couldn't help but feel as though time was slipping from his fingertips.
His children were growing up, and he wasn't too sure on how he was to feel about it. He regretted not being able to give them a mother, or at least a mother figure, but no female caught his attention. He wished for that to change in the near future by finding a nice lady that he liked.
"Daddy."
Hayden is brought out of his thoughts by placing down his newspaper and bringing the cup of hot coffee away from his lips. He smiles at his daughter, but in his mind he frowns as he sees that she isn't the little girl dress in little frilly green dresses anymore. "Hmm, what is it darling?"
"Can I borrow the car?" Cadenza asks, smiling sweetly towards her father as she also wanted to see if she could use his credit card. "And your card? Amelia and Olive wanted to hang out at the mall and go shopping. I won't crash the car or spend too much, promise!"
Cadenza's little giggle at the end of her words and enthusiasm was something Hayden wasn't able to say no to. He trusted his children, and both Amelia and Olive appeared to be nice girls. Besides, Cadenza oftentimes made clothes and would buy fabric when she would shop, so a few clothes shopping trips here and there never hurt him much financially. Hayden was smart when it came to his money.
After letting a small chuckle slip from his lips and a sip of his coffee, Hayden gives Cadenza a soft smile. His eyes shrinking in size ever so slightly due to the skin being lifted from the corners of his lips curling up in a smile.
"I suppose, but I want you to be home at five. I'm taking you all out for dinner tonight at six thirty, and I know how long it takes you to get ready. And Cadenza, please be careful. I trust you, but I don't trust the other people on the road."
"Thank you!" If possible, Cadenza's smile grows larger as she leans forward to give her father a tight hug and a kiss on his cheek. She pulls away and grabs onto the keys as she reaches for his card that is handed to her. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," Hayden tells her, watching as his daughter gives him one last wave, a small glance, and walks out of the door pulling her phone out of her back pocket to quickly text her friends.
Hayden didn't want his children to grow up, but he had at least three more years until his last one graduates and is shipped off to college. Until then, he planned to make the most out of everyday he had with every single one of them.
