chapter four
When Cadenza said she'd be back on time, she followed through with her words. However, she never said that there wouldn't be a fight when she came home. Once she came home, Hayden had already told the other two siblings about dinner, and Laurance didn't want to get ready until fifteen minutes prior to having to leave. Cadenza wasn't too fond of this saying that he "needs to stop being such a disappointment with his fashion taste" and rolled her eyes as she then began to look through the clothing she had recently finished.
Cadenza has always worked on multiple projects at once, and she always has other people's measurements on hand. She has them programmed into her phone for on the go, and she has then written in a notebook in her room. She oftentimes scares her other two siblings by how well she knows their measurements without having to look down at some sort of information. And when Cadenza accidentally let a friend of hers know of a twelve year old Alex's bust size, her measurements were burnt and out the window in the fireplace outback. So now Cadenza has made sure to always have a backup set of measurements for everyone.
She once was trying to measure Laurance one night during his sleep and scared the living bananas out of him when he woke up to her try to flip him around so she could get the tape around his torso. He screamed, woke up Hayden, and Cadenza's tapes were taken away from her for an entire two weeks. She was furious, but Laurance just wanted to sleep peacefully. Ever since then, Laurance has learned to sleep with what he calls "sleeping with one eye open" in case Cadenza gets onto one of her insane ideas of measuring him in the middle of the night again.
Laurance was sitting on the couch, his feet kicked up and placed on the table in front of him. His attention was placed on his phone, and the tv was on as background noise. He was waiting for Cadenza after being forced to listen to what she had to say. Hayden was sitting on the chair nearby him reading the newspaper. He was already read.
Cadenza quickly makes her way down the stairs and proudly holds up the clothing. "I did amazing work if I do say so myself," she says, admiring the fabric and smiling. "Come here and put it on. It should fit you perfectly."
Laurance gets up and slowly trudges over to Cadenza, eyeing the clothing carefully before sighing and taking it. He runs up the stairs leaving a chuckling Hayden.
Cadenza sighs as she plops herself onto their couch, rolling her head. "I don't understand him," she comments, putting her head into hands in a frustrated manner. "I make him nice clothes and he continues to want to dress like a dumbass." Hayden lifts an eyebrow at her swear as she bites her lip. "Sorry daddy, but it's true."
Hayden nods his head and lowers his reading. "I understand, but forcing him to do something isn't going to make him want to do it in the future. I'm just glad he doesn't obsess over his hair for hours on end."
Cadenza sighs once more and looks up at the stairs once she hears the creaking. She hopes it's Laurance but realizes it's Alex. She had an outfit for her too.
Cadenza stands up to go to her before Alex begins to speak. Hayden looks over at them and shakes his head.
"What are you wearing?" He asks the young girl. Alex looks at him, confused as she looks at herself. She was completely covered.
"Clothing?"
"I can tell it's clothing," he responds and rolls his eyes. "What type of clothing?"
"A crop top and jeans? I plan on changing."
Hayden frowns at the words, shutting his paper. He didn't like the idea of them growing up. And with Alex being the youngest and already taking after Cadenza and what she wears, it upsets him seeing that she's even growing up so fast. Cadenza is a senior, so she'll be gone and off to college soon.
Hayden goes into an entire tangent of how Alex is too young for crop tops and how she is still a little girl. This ends up in a retort of how she was fourteen and more than capable to wear clothing like that and how Cadenza could wear things like that at her age.
After a small protest and Cadenza proposing that she changes like planned into the outfit made for her, Alex disappears back up into her room and Hayden runs his hand through his hair.
Some time later, everybody was ready to go. It wasn't anything too fancy, but Cadenza never turned down an opportunity to dress up. She loved dressing up. She always has.
Dinner consisted of what has happened at school and how they were fairing it. Y/N is brought up, and Laurance manages to let a light pink hue luster against his cheeks. He tries to divert the conversation to something else, but he isn't very successful.
"C'mon guys, it's been two weeks," he groans rolling his eyes. "I'm not going to ask someone out after two weeks. That's dumb. Besides we're just friends."
Cadenza shakes her head with a chuckle and looks at him. "For now. But hear my words, you will end up together before I'm off to college."
Laurance groans once more and cuts through the meat on his plate. "Sure, fine, whatever," he grumbles. "You know, why couldn't we stick to the football conversation? I don't think I can join the team, but there's always next year I suppose. There's more sports this year like soccer. I'm not sure about basketball. . ."
Hayden looks up at him and laughs. "I'm sure you're fine, Laurance. You always have time."
