chapter eighteen
Alex's POV
"You're lucky I love you, or else I wouldn't put up with half the crap I already do."
"Awe, you're too sweet, Al. I love you too!" Laurance laughs, glancing down at the radio, smiling when a song he likes comes on. He taps his fingers against the steering wheel. "We are such amazing siblings."
I could tell something was up with Laurance. He came home this morning upset and stored himself away in his room. He wouldn't answer to anyone, so we gave him his space. It came to my surprise when he came out saying he wanted to go out for a drive.
"Of course we are, LaurLaur." Laurance rolls his eyes playfully at me for using his old nickname. I turn to him and make a kissy face, and our conversation continues when he goes to talk about Y/N. I end up looking out the window when our conversation stops, and the radio is spitting out song lyrics that I do not know. I'm thankful that I was at least able to get him to talk about what was on his chest.
I can feel the vibrations of the bass as it rings through the car. Laurance seems to enjoy the music playing, and that's all that matters.
We stop at a red light, and I look down in my sideview mirror. But when I look up, I see a car speeding down the road. The light turns green for us, and the other car's light turns red. They don't stop however, and it's extremely close to us. Laurance begins to drive forward. I begin to panic when I realize he doesn't see the car when it clearly refuses to stop.
"Laurance!" I yell out. He looks over at my panicked state and sees the speeding car. He pushes me away from the window and protects me with what he could of his body just before the car collides with the passenger side door.
It happens all too fast. After the car hits us, I remember jerking somewhere else, and Laurance's body not being in his seat with his seatbelt covering him. Glass shatters, I see blood, and I hit my head against something to the point where I can't see anything. The world is hazy, and it feels as though I'm not truly there. This is all I can remember before blacking out.

Y/N's POV
The scream I hear of my name downstairs makes my toes curl and breath hitch. I have not once heard my name be called like that before, especially from my mom, in my lifetime. It's a horrid scream that reeks of nothing but of fear and urgency.
I nearly trip over my own feet as I run down the stairs to the living room. And once I see what's on the tv, I begin to wish that I never would've came downstairs.
The tv screen consisted of what once had been a car but now is almost flattened and disfigured. The words "BREAKING NEWS" is stamped across the bottom with small words speeding by across underneath it.
It feels as though I had ran a ten mile marathon and was punched in the stomach to lose the ability to breathe as a bonus when both the tv and mom explain what had happened. Little details are slipped, and my phone is soon in my hand dialing before I can realize what's truly happening.
I call once, twice, three times to end with the same result of no answer from Laurance. Tears fill my vision when I spot brown messy hair on screen, but the blood tampers with it. The semi close up showed me things I didn't wish to see. It's now that I realize that my brothers are standing next to me.
I didn't know that the television could show things like date due to people's privacy, but no names are announced.
I can feel a hand placed on my shoulder, the grip tightening with what I think to be grief and fear. While others can move, I can't make my body move. I can't even open my mouth. I can't think, and I can't breathe.
"There's two people in the car," I hear through what sounds to be water. It's my mom's voice, but it's like she's in a different world.
"Alex isn't answering either," Vylad says, clutching onto his phone like his life depends on it. "Cadenza's line is busy."
Laurance's POV
My eyes slowly open. I blink a few times to rid of the blurriness. It feels as though I have just woken up from a nap, and my muscles are tense and refuse to move. I glance around, despite not being able to see well. I lay my had back down, and I fall back asleep as my phone begins to ring near me.
