stubborn ex-boyfriend
✧
As Evelyn walked into school the next morning she couldn't shake the thought of Asher from her head. She wanted to move on from Jordan seeing as he was clearly doing the same thing. But, moving on with your ex-boyfriend's best friend probably wasn't the best idea
"Hey, have you seen Layla?" Spencer asked, walking up to Evelyn at her locker with JJ and Asher trailing behind him.
"What is this?" she asked, furrowing her eyebrows at the three boys. "The find Layla, group?"
"Evie, I'm being serious," he pleaded. "She wasn't in class and Layla doesn't skip."
"No, sorry, Spence," she sighed, opening her locker and finding a note taped to the inside. "But, if you see her. Text me. I'm kind of worried."
"Heh!" JJ chuckled, pointing at the entrance of the school. "She looks fine to me."
"Uh, I'll catch y'all later," Spencer frantically said walking away.
"Hey, what's that?" JJ asked, nodding his head at the note in Evelyn's hand.
"It's from your stupid friend, Jordan," she grumbled, removing the gold bracelet that was taped to the top.
"Ooh, let me see that," the blonde grinned, plucking the paper from between her fingers. "Dear Evie, I know we agreed on breaking up for good. But, I can't accept that. Here's the bracelet I gave you for your 17th birthday. Love, J."
"Feel free to toss that in the garbage," she retorted, throwing the bracelet back into her locker and shutting it.
"So you're not interested in taking him back?" Asher asked, curiously.
"Um, no," she mumbled. "I thought Jordan and I had an understanding. I'm ready to move on and I thought he was already moving on. Considering—"
"Considering all the chicks he's been banging over the break," JJ butted in, slinging his arm around her. "Makes sense. But the other day at the beach he seemed upset about you and A—."
"And nobody!" Asher cut him off.
"You two are not the right people to be having this conversation with," Evelyn groaned, pushing JJ away from her. "I have a class to get to and I'm sure you guys do, too. Goodbye!"
"Dude," JJ chuckled, watching her walk away as he nudged Asher in the ribs. "You need to make a move. Fast."

After a day of avoiding Jordan who was lurking around every single corner. Evelyn had gone to the cafe to meet up with Olivia and Layla.
"I don't understand him," Evelyn said, watching Jordan from across the cafe with a bunch of overly eager girls by his side. "You know, he wrote me a letter and put it in my locker saying how he won't accept us not being together."
"He had a girl over this morning," Liv revealed, raising her eyebrow up. "He's just trying to disturb your peace don't fall for his trap."
"Trust me I'm not," she scoffed, picking her phone up. "Look at this, #statechamplife."
"Is it wrong that I kinda wish they lost that game?" Liv asked.
"Yes, Liv, you're an Eagle," Layla sighed. "They're just having fun."
"I don't see fun," Liv scoffed. "I see a sign around his neck that says help me written in that girl's lipstick. I thought Enrique was smarter than him but, he seems to be getting just as involved in this little celebration."
"Ricky's never been smart," Evelyn snorted. "It's a known fact, Liv. Girl twins are the smarter ones. Why do you think we get to sit here and judge our dumbass brothers?"
"True," she giggled. "So...Layla, how are things with your dad?"
"How many times are you going to ask me about my dad?" Layla complained.
"We're just happy that you and your dad are doing really well," Evelyn defended.
"Yeah," Liv nodded in agreement. "It's like we're playing musical fathers. Mine leaves yours comes back."
"Don't forget about Spencer's dad," Layla chuckled.
"How can I? I mean, I can't believe he wants Spencer to move back to Crenshaw," Liv said, accidentally revealing too much in the process. "And I have the biggest mouth in the world."
Evelyn scoffed. "Yeah, you do."

"Ooh, nice bruise on your face," Evelyn teased, walking into her house and spotting her brother in the living room.
"Go to hell," Enrique spat. "I don't need another lecture. Mom and dad already gave me one."
"They should've kicked your ass," she scoffed, sitting beside him on the couch. "Dumbass. Why the hell are you getting into fights at the cafe?"
Enrique shook his head and threw a pillow at his sister. "It was Jordan's fault. He was being a dick and the guy punched him, so, me and JJ stepped in. But, if it makes you feel better mom took my phone. She found out about me sneaking out to those college parties with them."
"Good," she grinned, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. "I don't need you acting like a pretentious douche."
He scoffed. "That's what mom said."
"Well," she said, clapping her hands together and standing up from the couch. "I'm going to pay my lovely ex-boyfriend a visit."
"No," he whined. "Why?"
"Because he's being an idiot," she shrugged, picking her keys back up. "Bye, Ricky."
It was late once she arrived at the Baker house. She made a small pit stop at JJ's house to ask him if he still had the stupid letter that was in her locker which he for some reason kept in his backpack. Evelyn had found the key that Jordan would hide under a plant pot for her from when they were dating and she'd sneak in at night from time to time.
Evelyn peeked her head into his room spotting him on his bed with a grimace on his face. "Jordan?"
"You remembered where I put that key?" he questioned, lifting his eyebrows up. "Come inside and close the door...I'm probably not allowed to have guests over."
"What's this?" she asked, pulling the letter out from her back pocket.
"A letter," he answered. "You used to love it when I wrote you letters. You said they were simple...yet, romantic."
"Jordan I meant what I said when I told you we were done...for good," she sighed, relaxing her shoulders. "I'm trying to move on. And I thought you were, too."
He scoffed. "Move on? With who, Asher? I saw you two after the game before winter break and then he walked you over to your car the other day. I'm not stupid."
"Who I move on with is none of your business," she groaned. "I don't get upset at you for practically shoving your tongue down girls' throats right in front of me! Let me be happy."
"I don't want you being happy if it isn't with me," Jordan stated, crossing his arms across his chest.
"Oh, my God!" Evelyn groaned, throwing her head back in annoyance. "And you wonder why I don't want you back? That was the most selfish sentence to ever come out of your mouth. Goodbye, Jordan."
"Do you remember that talk we had in here?" Jordan asked, stopping her from walking away. "It was just a couple of months ago. And I meant every word, Evie."
Evelyn took a deep breath, clenching her fists at her side. "Well, I didn't. All those I love you's and stupid I miss you's that I said. I didn't mean any of it. Goodbye."
