first day

Mornings at the Hernandez house were usually hectic as hell. If it wasn't Jennifer on a conference call with investors in another country, then it was Joaquin on the phone usually talking sports with a certain ex-NFL player. Then it was Evelyn's twin brother, Enrique who was constantly on the phone with his newest flavor of the week. Or it was the youngest of the bunch Alejandro running around watching Peppa Pig on his tablet and trying his best to mimic her accent. Evelyn often felt that she was the only normal person in the family when she walked down the steps of her massive house and spotted the craziness going on.

"Ah, Evie, sweetie," Joaquin greeted, watching as his only daughter walked through the kitchen. "Billy told me there's a new student going to Beverly today and he's crazy good at football. So, be nice to him and make sure that boyfriend of yours is nice, too."

"I'm always nice," Evelyn scoffed flipping her hair behind her back. "I don't know about Jordan, though. But, we'll see. What position does he play?"

"Wide receiver," he said.

"Mmm, I don't think it's Jordan you should be worried about," she said, shaking her head. "That's Asher's position."

"Sure," Joaquin told her shaking his head in agreement.

"Evelyn, sweetheart," Jennifer greeted pressing a kiss to her daughter's cheek as she walked into the kitchen with her son on her hip. "I need you to take your brother to daycare this morning. Now, please?"

"You guys do realize he's not my son. Where's Enrique?" she scoffed, grabbing her brother from her mom and perching him on his hip.

"Your brother had to pick one of his girlfriends up this morning," Joaquin answered.

"Your son is a walking ad campaign for STDs," she retorted, covering her younger brother's ear with her hand. "But, fine. Me and Ale are making a stop at Starbucks. See you two later,"

"We love you guys!" Jennifer yelled after her two kids wrapping an arm around her husband's waist.

"Evie, can you get me a cake pop?" Alejandro asked, as his big sister strapped him into his car seat.

"Fine," she sighed, closing the door and hopping into the driver's seat. "But, remember what I told you..."

"Mommy can never find out," he grinned.

After going through Starbuck's drive-thru, and getting their breakfast. Evelyn dropped her younger brother off at daycare and then headed off to school. Her classes for the first half of the day were average, there wasn't much excitement about them. But, once the bell rang, Evelyn strolled through the courtyard and sat on the steps with her usual group of friends awaiting her boyfriend's arrival.

Jordan had walked over to the group of friends with who Evelyn assumed to be the new kid and shot his girlfriend a flirty smile before introducing everyone. "Meet the crew. This is my girl Evelyn, Layla, and up top, Lucy, JJ, and Asher. Usually, Evelyn's twin brother joins us but he's off running some drills. He's also on the team."

"Hey," Evelyn grinned, pressing a kiss to her boyfriend's lips before looking at Spencer. "You must be the new kid my dad was telling me all about this morning."

"Your dad?" Spencer questioned. "Who's your dad?"

"Dude, her dad is Joaquin Hernandez. Heisman winner, super bowl champ, and has like 4 rings," JJ explained clamping a hand down on her shoulder. "They're basically family to me."

"Our moms are best friends," she corrected.

"I think you and Asher play the same position," Jordan informed Spencer, removing the blonde's hand off of his girlfriend's shoulder.

"What's up, man?" Asher asked.

"Oh, receiver, huh?" Spencer asked.

Asher smirked cockily. "Yeah, broke the school record for receptions last season."

"Here," Evelyn whispered into Jordan's ear pulling out a Tupperware of food. "My mom made your favorite last night and packed some for you. But, don't show JJ. He gets upset when I don't bring him food."

"Enchiladas," Jordan gushed bringing her in for another kiss. "Thank you. I love you!"

"Love you, too. I gotta get some extra training in for volleyball. See you!" she yelled, running off just in time to miss Asher disrespecting Spencer.

Jordan and Evelyn had been together for around one year. The two were friends before that and both had small crushes on each other resulting in Jordan asking her out on a date. The year they were together was great and Jordan was a pretty good boyfriend despite never being in a relationship before her. But, that didn't mean they didn't have their fair amount of issues, which was mostly just Jordan having jealousy issues at times.

The following day came around and Jordan was apparently having a little get-together in his backyard with the team and some others. Most of the people there were swimming or just tanning. The Baker house was usually the place to be seeing as most events were hosted there. Evelyn's parents were also close to Billy and Laura seeing as their kids were dating and they've known each other for years. She was also close to his twin sister who had spent most of her time trying to avoid that group with the exception of Evelyn.

"So..." Evelyn hummed, turning her head to look at Liv. "You never told me why you're not friends with Layla anymore. Not that it's any of my business. But, having to split my time in between my two best friends is a bit time-consuming."

"If I told you, I'd have to kill you, Evie," Liv teased. "Plus, your boyfriend's probably looking for you."

"My boyfriend is too busy with his boyfriend, Asher," she sighed looking out at the backyard while they talked.

"Come to my room," Liv demanded standing up from the couch.

"No, Liv, I will not make out with you!" she yelled, getting dragged up the stairs and passing by Laura.

"No making out with your brother's girlfriend, Livvy!" Laura yelled after the two giggling girls.

"Okay," Evelyn said, zipping up the massive sweater she stole from Jordan to cover her bikini. "Spill. Because it has to be something terrible if you're avoiding Layla, and like, the rest of our other friends."

"Last year," Liv sighed, slightly tearing up. "I slept with Asher. It was before I went to rehab and I was high off some pills and I was so wasted. I barely remember it even happening...But, I regret it so much...a-and if Layla ever found out s-she'd be—"

"So hurt," Evelyn mumbled, wrapping her friend up into a hug. "I promise I won't tell Layla. Don't cry, I hate seeing you cry."

"You don't hate me?" Liv asked. "Or think I'm some terrible person?"

"No, Liv, I could never hate you, you're my best friend," she sighed, comforting her friend.

The big football game had finally approached and football games were a huge deal at Beverly High, unlike the other sports at the school that seemed to pale in comparison even though the football team hadn't even won a state championship. But, now, that Spencer James was on the team there was hope for the team that now they'd get to state.

Evelyn had walked over to the locker rooms waiting outside and sent a text to her boyfriend telling him to run outside so she could give him a good luck kiss. "Hey, baby," she said grinning up at him.

Seeing as that his girlfriend was 5'1 and he was a whopping 6'2, meaning that he was literally a whole foot taller than her. He had to quite literally pick her up off of the ground to give her a kiss. "Nice jersey," he pointed out, running a hand up the old jersey from freshman year that he had given and softly squeezed her size.

"You go do your quarterback thing. Good luck!" she cheered, smacking his butt and running off to the bleachers settling in between Mrs. Baker and Olivia. Usually, Evelyn would sit with her family but her dad insisted on sitting with boosters which she did not want to be a part of and her mom was at home with her younger brother. "Hey, Baker's."

"Hey, daughter-in-law," Mrs. Baker said throwing the Latina a friendly smile.

"Ew, mom. No," Liv groaned. "Please, don't ever say that again they've been dating for like a year."

"That's a long time for Jordan," she shrugged.

The two teens had ignored the last statement that came from the older woman, and instead placed their attention towards the field and watched the game. It was a pretty close game at first. The Eagles weren't too far behind scoring-wise but, things took a turn for the better when Coach Baker put Spencer in the game and took Asher out. Within a few seconds, Jordan had made it to the endzone and scored the final touchdown resulting in the Eagles winning the game. The bleachers immediately roared in happiness and everyone had run down the bleachers to congratulate the players.

Evelyn noticed the sadness in her boyfriend's face seeing his dad congratulate Spencer first instead of him. She had quickly moved to approach him but overheard him giving one of the players from Chatsworth a tip about Spencer moving to Beverly because of his football skills. Hearing that, Evelyn shook her head at his immature ways and turned back around and walked off to the parking lot deciding on going home instead of being with her boyfriend.
