"I am so sorry!"
Evelyn met Asher at the cafe basically running up to the table he was sitting at. He sat patiently waiting for the girl with her favorite sandwich and iced tea laid out on the table.
"It's okay," he sighed.
"No, it's not," she groaned. "I should've been a good...whatever we are and showed up to the dinner with your parents. I know it was important to you and I should've been there. I'm sorry, Ash."
"Evie, it's okay," he said, reaching across the table and grabbing her hand. "Liv went."
Her eyes bulged out of her head. "What? My best friend went to dinner...with your parents?"
"Wasn't my idea," he scoffed. "My mom thinks Liv and me are together. Ever since we came here...she also kind of texted her to meet here the other day so we can talk."
"So your mom and Liv are best friends," she groaned. "That makes me feel great."
He reached out for her hand. "Liv told her that we weren't a couple. Just friends. I told my mom about this girl named Evelyn and how I really like her."
"You told your mom about me?" she grinned.
"Yes," he chuckled. "I told my mom about you."
She sighed, perching her chin on top of her hand. "Well, if we're telling the truth and all of that. Jordan came over last night. It wasn't entirely a family emergency. Sorry, I'm like the worst person ever."
"Jordan was at your house?" he asked. Retracting his hand from her grasp and looking away. "What'd you do with him?"
"Jordan told me that Simone wasn't pregnant with his baby. I was just being his friend," she shrugged. " But, I didn't entirely lie to you...I have been dealing with family issues. Ricky and I broke into my dad's safe and found out that he wasn't actually our dad. We didn't talk to our parents for like two weeks. It was a mess. But, things are...fine. I guess."
"What?" he questioned. "You can't just...What do you mean he's not your dad?"
"It's kind of a long story," she mumbled, looking down at the table.
"And I'm here for you," he reassured. "Just tell me...or don't. As long as you know that I'm here for you."
"When my mom was in college, she had a boyfriend who has older than her and he was a really terrible person, and he hit her. She got pregnant with me and Enrique while in college and it was his...not my dad's. My grandma told us the whole story it's just really hard to talk about," she explained.
"Wow, that's a lot. Are you okay?" he asked. "And if you don't mind me asking how does your dad tie into this?"
"My parents went to the same college, he was on a scholarship for football and he met my mom when she was going through everything...We didn't really ask for specifics but, that's basically it," she sighed. "I mean, it actually makes a lot of sense. When we were kids everyone told me and Enrique that we looked like our mother. I don't think anyone has ever told me that we looked like our dad..."
Asher reached across the table and pulled her face into his hands, his lips brushing against hers before fully engaging in a kiss. "I'm sorry, Evie."
"Do that again," she giggled.
"You want me to kiss you again?" he asked, slightly chuckling.
"Yes," she blushed. "Kiss me."
Asher let out a small laugh reaching across the table to kiss her. Evelyn meeting him in the middle to close the gap as their lips moved in sync. The two had shortly pulled away having to remind themselves that they were in the cafe.
He drummed his fingers lightly against the tabletop before announcing. "I'm taking you on a date tomorrow."
"A date?" she perked up. "Not a group date with your bros, right?"
"Very funny," Asher chuckled, sarcastically. "No, not a group date with my bros. Just me and you, E."

Evelyn had no idea what was in store for her the following day as she got ready for her date with Asher. He gave her zero details about where he was taking her and just texted her a simple message that said don't dress up too much.
She sifted through her closet as she settled on an outfit to wear. She picked out a simple blue dress that had white flowers speckled all over it and a pair of sandals. It was casual, yet, cute.
The doorbell had alerted her attention, she peeked out of her balcony and spotted Asher's car. Immediately racing down the steps to get to him before any of her family members did. But, it was too late, Enrique had opened the door and seemed to be interrogating him
"Why are you here?" she heard her brother ask. "And why are you bringing me flowers, dude? We're not that close."
Asher scoffed, his eyes going over Enrique's shoulder and eyeing Evelyn. "They're not for you. They're for her."
"Ohhhh," he realized, turning around to look at his twin sister. "Since dad isn't here, I guess, I'll be him for the day. Have her home by 10:30 pm. If she's not home I'm calling a search party for you two."
"Ricky," Evelyn whined, bumping past her brother to retrieve the flowers. "You're embarrassing me. Stop. We don't even have a curfew."
"With me in charge, you have a curfew," he chuckled. "Now, back to you, Adams. Keep those hands and lips to yourself. More importantly, if she comes home upset. I'm kicking your ass."
"You got it," Asher agreed. "You can happily kick my ass if I ever make your sister upset."
"I like him," Enrique grinned. "Have fun! But, not too much fun!"
"I'd apologize for him but he's your friend," she joked, as they walked to his car.
Asher opened the passenger seat as any gentleman would and gave her a shrug. "I don't mind. It's nice that he's so protective of you. You look really beautiful by the way."
She flashed him a smile. "Thank you. Now, where are you taking me?"
"Um," he flushed red as he spoke. "How does a picnic sound? I was thinking we go to that one park not too far from that ice cream shop you used to love in middle school."
"That sounds amazing," she grinned.
Asher pulled his car into a parking space and shifted the gear into park. As Evelyn attempted to reach for the door handle, he swatted her hand away and quickly raced out of the car to open the door for her.
She blushed at how romantic he was being. He then proceeded to pull out a white sheet and picnic basket from his trunk.
Her eyes widened as they approached the grass and he laid the sheet down. He began unpacking the food from the basket and she quickly realized he had packed her favorite foods.
She sat down and grinned cheekily at him. "Sushi, popcorn, chips, and my favorite fruit. How sweet are you?"
Asher gave her a smile as he held up two champagne flutes. "And I brought fancy glasses to put the sparkling water in. I thought this all out. All by myself."
"This is amazing," she sighed, resting her head against his shoulder. "You're amazing."
"I know," he stated cockily. "Eat up."
She let out a small laugh before reaching for the sushi he had brought and immediately stuffed it into her mouth. Asher's eyes widening at her appetite while she just gave him a small shrug in response and threw him a thumbs up.
Evelyn smiled innocently. "I forgot to eat, today."
Asher patted his stomach and then proceeded to shove some popcorn into his mouth. "Athlete appetite. I get it."
The two sat around and continued to eat the assortment of food. Asher subtly checking her out, his arm slipping around her waist and resting comfortably on her thigh. Her hand rested on his hand, giving it a soft squeeze as they exchanged bashful smiles. Sitting around and just observing the sights before them.
Things were so simple with Asher, and Evelyn seriously enjoyed being with him. He was sweet, attentive, and super caring. And Asher thought the exact same things about Evelyn. She was extremely caring and sweet. He thought being with her was like a breath of fresh air.
Evelyn let out a grunt, resting her head on Asher's lap. "I'm stuffed. You overfed me."
"Me?" he gasped, softly massaging her thigh. "You're the one who insisted on eating that last sushi roll. I told you no. But, someone didn't listen."
"I don't like being told no," she shrugged.
He tapped her on the nose making it scrunch up reflexively. The little scrunch made Asher smile, as he admired her from above.
Evelyn looked up at him from her position on his lap and softly pulled him down and placed her lips on his. It was an awkward position but, the two didn't mind as they enjoyed the feeling of each other's lips.
Asher pulled away, licking his lips after, and gave her a grin. "You're a great kisser."
"I know," she giggled. "I have lots of practice."
He grimaced, gently poking her side. "That's just something I didn't need to know."
"Got it," she mumbled.
"Alright," Asher sighed, nudging her softly. "I gotta take you home."
Evelyn looked around confused, not realizing how much time they had spent at the park until she noticed it was dark out. They had literally been at the park all day too busy enjoying each other's company to even notice.
Asher re-packed everything, shoving it messily into the basket before reaching out for her hand as they walked back to the parking lot. Once they got inside, he had placed his hand once again on her thigh as they drove in silence. But, it was a comfortable silence.
"Thank you for tonight, Ash," she said, as he walked to her front door. "I had a really good time. That picnic you packed was so sweet and thoughtful."
Asher rested his hands on her hips as they stood face to face, well, in her case, face to chest. He brushed a stray hair out of her face and smiled. "It was no problem, Evie. You're worth it."
She blushed, stepping on her tiptoes, and pulled him down for a kiss. The short kiss soon turned into a lustful one, once his hands traveled down to her backside, and gave it a squeeze. A small moan erupted from her mouth making her eyes snap open in shock.
"Okay," she softly pushed him away. "Goodnight, Asher."
"You're not gonna invite me in," Asher teased, a devilish smirk appearing on his lips.
"On the first date?" Evelyn gasped, playfully. "I'm not that easy, Adams. Bye, bye."
