family talks
Enrique angrily stormed into his sister's room to confront her about the whole steroids situation. Waking her up from her very deep sleep as he angrily confronted her. "You snitched!" He paced her room frantically at the thought of his coach knowing about his steroid usage.
"Ricky!" she groaned, lifting her head from her pillow. "I'm sleeping!"
"You snitched!" he repeated. "Mom and dad aren't home. They're probably talking to Mr. and Mrs. Baker and asking them what rehab facility they sent Olivia to!"
"Or maybe they had to take care of other things?" she yawned, clearly uninterested in their conversation. "You're not their only child. They have a whole ass four-year-old to take care of."
"Why else would Coach call me and Asher in for a fake practice and then confront us about the steroids?" he asked.
"Because I told them," she shrugged. "You weren't going to stop. So, I went to dad and told him the truth about you and Asher."
"I could've been kicked off of the team, Evelyn!" Enrique yelled.
She rolled her eyes at her brother's dramatics. "Well, were you?"
"No, but that's bes—"
"Get out, then!" Evelyn yelled throwing a pillow at his face.

"How is this my fault?"
Evelyn and Asher were in the school hallway engaging in a small argument after she had gotten yet another rude confrontation about going to her dad and Coach Baker. First, it was her brother waking her out of her sleep and yelling at her. And, now, it was Asher.
"I didn't say that," Asher argued.
"Well, you indirectly said it," she scoffed.
"I felt blindsided," he said. "Not only did you go to my coach but you told your dad. Now he probably hates me."
"I told my dad because of Enrique. Not you!" she raised her voice. "I told you to stop and you blatantly ignored my request. Do you think I'm stupid? I know you used again before the scrimmage. Both of you!"
"I didn't lie," he said. "Okay? I meant it when I said it. You should've just given me a heads up you were telling them."
"Why?" she crossed her arms. "So you could lie, again."
"You betrayed my trust," Asher said.
"I was worried about you, Asher. Excuse me for caring," she scoffed. "I saw what drugs did to Liv. I didn't want that happening to you or my brother. Sorry if I don't want to watch another person I love spiral out of control."
"You love me?" Asher asked, his eyes softening once he glanced down at her. "Evelyn I—"
"No," Evelyn scoffed. "I mean...That's not what we're talking about, right now. Look, I understand that you could have potentially lost everything. But, the only thing that matters to me is that you're okay. I have to get to class. Goodbye, Ash."
☆☆☆
"It's all your fault, dad!"
Evelyn walked into the middle of world war three as she entered her house. Her brother and dad were face to face in a heated argument as soon as she stepped foot she could feel the tension radiating off of the men while her mom sat quietly in the corner.
"What the hell is going on?" she asked.
"Oh, it's her fault, too," Enrique said, pointing at his sister.
"What did I do?!" she yelled.
"You think I wanted to use steroids?" he scoffed, flaring his nostrils. "All my life everyone's told me I was good. But, I wanted to be great. Do you know how hard it is to live up to my dad who was in the NFL and constantly be compared to him? Or my sister who can just win a state championship with the flick of a wrist and be named MVP...just like that! You're my twin, yet, I have to live up to how good you are! We don't even play the same sports!"
"Ricky, calm down," Jennifer stepped in, attempting to calm him down.
"Mom, it's fine," Evelyn said. "He's just telling us how he feels."
"Dad seemed to care about me winning a state championship more than he actually cared about how I'm doing!" he continued.
"Enrique," Joaquin sighed, rubbing his temples as he sat back down. "I've won four super bowl rings. You think I care more about high school football than you?"
"How was I not supposed to, dad?" Enrique emotionally admitted. "You made it seem like a state championship was more important than me...You wanted me to win so bad. All those extra practices...Telling me how good everyone else was. but, not once did you ever tell me I was good!"
"I thought I was motivating you," he said. "Helping you get to where you need to be. I'm so sorry if I didn't make you a priority. You are more important than any trophy. I'd throw away my awards in a heartbeat for you, son. I promise. I'm so sorry."
Evelyn shrugged her shoulders. "I'm not sorry."
"Evelyn!" Jennifer hissed.
"What?" she scoffed. "Nobody bats an eye when I win anything. But, when it comes to football the school and everyone else practically worships you. Even when you guys sucked! So, yeah, I'm not sorry. Do you know how many times mom and dad have missed my games to go to yours? Not once did I complain. So, don't try to blame me for shit."
Enrique stepped away from his sister, instantly feeling bad for yelling at her. "I didn't know mom and dad missed your games to come to mine...and I'm sorry for trying to blame you. I was out of line."
"Yeah, you were," she scoffed, crossing her arms. "But, whatever, I can't stay mad at you for too long."
"And, I think I speak for the both of us when I say sorry," Jennifer spoke up, sharing a look with her husband. "We didn't know how you kids felt. And as parents, we should've done better."
Evelyn shrugged her shoulders along with her twin as they sat beside each other on the couch. "So, what, now?"
"Now," Joaquin sighed. "We try to communicate better as a family. I think we've had enough secrets these past couple of months to last a lifetime. Enrique, I think you should stop by the Baker house. You owe Billy an apology...he stuck his neck out for you."
"Yeah, I know," he agreed.
"What happened?" Evelyn questioned. "Are you and Asher suspended? Or what?"
"Relax," Enrique teased. "Your boyfriend's fine. Coach told Principal Landon the steroids were his...But, he got suspended. So, I will go to the Baker's see you guys later."
"Ah!" Jennifer quickly stopped her son, holding her hand out. "You're not off the hook that easily. You were being stupid. So, give me your phone, and your father will drive you to their house. No car, no phone. You're only allowed to school, practice, and home. Evelyn will drive you where you need to go."
"Mom!" Evelyn yelled.
"You think you're off the hook that easily, too?" Jennifer questioned. "You knew and didn't tell us. Sure, your father had his suspicions. But, Evelyn you knew! And you didn't say anything. So, your punishment will be driving your brother around."
"Ugh!" she groaned, stomping up the stairs. "Why do you hate me?!"
Jennifer and Joaquin shook their heads at their overly dramatic daughter before going their separate ways.
Evelyn spent the majority of her night in her room. Laying next to her younger brother who kept prodding her with questions about what the yelling was about earlier.
"Tell me," Alejandro whined, yanking on her hair.
"How old are you?" she questioned.
He held up four fingers. "This many."
"I'll tell you when you're my age," she hummed.
"You're gonna be so old by then!" he complained. "I'd try to count but I'd run out of fingers!"
"I put on your stupid show, Ale," she groaned, pointing at one of the silly cartoons he insisted on watching. "Shut up and watch it."
"Knock, knock," Asher peeked his head into her room.
"Thank God," Alejandro mumbled, quickly jumping off of her bed. "Be warned, Asher. She's in a mood."
"I'll keep that in mind," he chuckled ruffling the younger boy's hair. "Night, Ale."
"It's not my bedtime," the four-year-old scoffed, quickly racing past him.
"I'm not in a mood," she denied. "Where were you?"
"Using the super strength the steroids give me and lifting weights," he deadpanned. "That was a joke."
"You make terrible jokes," she scoffed.
"I know," he sighed, placing his head on her shoulder as he crawled into her bed. "Sorry."
"Whatever. I'm used to bad jokes," she chuckled. "I have a little brother and he's not as funny as he thinks he is."
"Evie," he mumbled, rubbing her thigh. "I'm being serious. I'm not talking about the joke. I'm sorry about the steroids and I'm done using. It wasn't fair for me to put you in that position. Or your brother."
"You don't have to apologize for him. He knew what he was doing," she said. "I'm sorry for betraying your trust. I should've at least given you a heads-up before going to my dad and Coach Baker."
"Babe, don't apologize," he said. "I would've just talked you out of it. You did the right thing and that's just one of the many reasons why...I love you."
Her eyes lit up at his confession. "Probably wasn't the best time to confess my love for you in the middle of an argument earlier today. And I know it's kind of early into our relationship...But, it's true, I love you, Asher Adams."
His large hands cupped her face and he pulled her in for a kiss. A glint of adoration, shimmering in both their eyes once they pulled apart. Asher brushed his thumb against her face and soon recognized the lust forming in her eyes. "Evelyn...we don't have to do th—"
She quickly cut him off. "Shut up. I...want you." She threw her leg over his lap and quickly straddled him, her hands moved down to the bottom of her t-shirt and she threw it across the room and grinned down at her boyfriend. Asher's hands gripped her waist and he closed the gap between them and placed his lips on hers. And the couple spent the rest of their night in bliss.
