Chapter 9
The two guards' names were Ruby and Malikai. They had insisted that the group ride in an armored vehicle. Far from the both of them. As soon as they were inside and 'secured'. Laff turned to Meme, removing his own gas mask and he had a smirk on his face.
"Still trust them?" He asked, "Because I sure feel safe." Laff said sarcastically. Meme sighed tiredly.
"This is better than being stuck out there." Meme snapped. "Who knows these guys might really know where Socks is." Meme said. Laff just snorted and looked away from Meme. Both looked tired and frustrated. Ally looked sick for the 3rd time this week. Nadwe yawned obviously tired from everything. Joocie was whispering quietly with Blaza.
"Bull." Laff whispered. Meme glanced at him in surprise. "If he were still alive he would be smart enough to not get captured, It's all Socks is alive that, and Socks is alive this. Why won't you accept that he's gone, and for good." Laff grumbled.
Meme bit back an angry retort. I can't help being positive. He thought as he slipped into sleep.
Meme was shaken awake by Laff who had his gas mask tied to his belt. His eyes were frantic and he looked worried. Meme smacked Laffs hand away and turned over.
"Five more minutes." He muttered.
"Yeah I don't think we have that time." Laff snapped. Gripping Memes shoulder and pulling him into a position where he was sitting on his knees. "Come on get up lazy bones."
"Why are you all of a sudden so attached to me?" Meme asked. Looking at the wall.
"Were at this 'Paradise' you were talking so fondly about." Laff said standing up. Helping Meme up. "They already took Ally and Nadwe in while you were asleep, and now us four are next." Laff said waving to Blaza and Joocie. Almost on cue the door opened revealing a tall brown haired man who had a gas mask of his own. He wore a yellow hoodie with an egg deco on it and he carried an assault rifle in his hands.
"Oh hello there! My name is Tommy!" The guard said he removed his mask and smiled. "Don't worry I'm a carrier like you." He said as he set the gas mask and gun on the floor. "You have no reason to fear me and my men." He said taking a step back. He gestured for the group to come out and follow him.
Joocie anxiously stepped out after Blaza as Meme and Laff followed. The building was surrounded by large concrete walls with many guards all wearing the same gas mask-esk thing on their face. Tommy walked in down a path that led straight to the front door of the building.
"I sure feel welcomed." Meme muttered.
"It's all candy and rainbows right?" Laff asking jokingly.
"Oddly tasting candy and knockoff rainbows." Meme snorted. Laff chuckled as they followed Tommy into the building.
"Now you must be wondering why we have taken you in and are sheltering you, well the response is simple you may be the key to helping all of mankind." Tommy said, holding the door open for the group. He began to take the lead once more. Walking them into a hallway that had glass walls. In one of the rooms the wall was splattered with blood and a small body lay limp on the floor. Meme yelped and looked away.
"I'm sorry you had to see that." Tommy said softly. "That was a witch we had captured and unfortunately for us that blood on the wall is not hers."
Memes' eyes widened in surprise as he glanced at Tommy who had already begun to walk away.
"I am not as interested in these other infecteds, we studied them just as the infection began and learned everything we needed to. " Tommy said as he continued to walk. His voice echoing through the hallway. They passed more rooms with blood on the floor or walls, sometimes even splattered on the glass that separated the observer from the hostage inside.
"See most of the infecteds we bring in are usually no longer connected with humanity, and their sanity is completely gone. Turning into what we know as the infecteds we have today." Tommy said he started slowing down. He turned around and began to walk backwards locking eyes with Meme.
"So what's the point of having all these rooms taken up, when we have an infected that has kept in touch with his humanity, who still can speak and think like a regular human being."
Meme bit his lip in anticipation. He knew where this was going, he knew exactly where it was going. As they stopped by a room, the glass wall had scratch marks and was partially spiderwebbed. Inside stood a figure slightly hunched over, his hood covering his head, casting shadows on his face. His eyes were a bright yellow and his dirty hair had some aspects of it being primarily brown. He wore an orange hoodie and had long fingers that extended into claws. Bandaged wrapped around the torn parts of his hoodie like a last ditch attempt to keep the fabric intact. The one thing that sent Meme reeling was that rainbow socks that covered his feet. The two of them locked eyes and Meme gasped in surprise.
"Socks?" He whispered softly.Socks instantly ran towards the window instead of trying to attack them he set his hand on the glass.
"What in the hell are you guys doing here?" He asked, his voice muffled by the barrier between them.
"Were here for you." Meme responded. Socks looked at Meme with sadness in his eyes. As Tommy cleared his throat. While Meme had been distracted he had gotten a chokehold around Joocies neck. Laff and Blaza had just been made aware of this at the same time that Meme had been. Tommy held a pistol to Joocies head.
"Listen Socks. I will put this bullet through your friend's head if you don't comply." Tommy snarled. Meme took a step back and looked between Socks and Tommy. Socks sighed and nodded.
"Fine, I'll comply as long as you let them go." Socks said.
"Ah ah ah, If I let them go what stops you from killing me?" Tommy asked. Joocie shook his head softly.
"Listen guys you don't have to do this," Joocie said. Tommy looked bewildered and as Meme glanced at Socks he realized he was tracking something. Meme followed his gaze to see Laff sneaking around Tommy to open the door to Socks' chamber. Meme took a step forward which made Tommy take a step back. Slightly releasing his hold on Joocie. Joocie tried to slip away as Tommy pulled the trigger. In a rush, Laff ran towards the door, soon figuring out he needed a keycard to open it. Joocie lay on the floor gasping for breath. Meme took matters into his own hands and tackled Tommy, knocking him to the ground. Tommy lost his grip on the pistol and it was sent flying across the floor. Blaza slid by and grabbed the pistol. He aimed for the corner of the glass that blocked Socks from exiting and fired. It made more spiderwebs on the glass but did nothing more.
"Why isn't this working!?" Blaza shouted. He smacked the pistol with the palm of his hand and began to line up another shot. Tommy was on his feet now and he knocked the pistol out of Blazas hand.
"You can't do this. Do you know what you're doing?" Tommy yelled, "This is society you're putting at stake!" He screamed. Meme ran over and intercepted the gun before Tommy could grab it off the tiled floors. Tommy began backing away from Meme until he tripped and fell. He put his hands up and slid backwards.
"You don't have to do this you know?" He said, "I'm helping, I promise." He pleaded. Meme looked him dead in the eyes.
"Where are Ally and Nadwe?" He questioned.
"There are testing rooms right next to the main office." Tommy broke down, his face covered with tears. "Thats where they're being contained, talk to Shroobz he knows where they're at."
"Now how do we open the door." He said gesturing to Socks' door. Which Laff was trying to pry open with pure strength alone.
"You need a keycard, which I have. There is a main keycard in the main office that I was talking about. It opens every door here. I only have a keycard that opens the containment facilities." Tommy explained. "But if you think I'm going to give up this keycard to you, pieces of garbage you think wrong." Tommy said fear was tainting his voice. "You'll have to kill me to get it." Tommy stated, "And I know you won't because you're the hero and you wouldn't harm anyone," Tommy taunted. As Meme stared at him in silence Tommy smiled. "I knew-"
A loud bang cut him off. Tommy's eyes widened and his hand went to his head that was bleeding profusely. He attempted to stand up and his legs buckled. He gasped in agony. He fell backwards and fell to the floor. His face now covered in blood relaxed and his eyes grew cloudy as he stared into perfect nothing. He turned around to see Blaza crouching next to Joocie looking at him in fear. He turned to look at Meme.
"Im not getting anything." Blaza whispered quietly. "He's dead."
A scream of outrage escaped from Socks as he pounded on the glass in an attempt to break it. Meme quickly slid over to Tommy's body and looked through his pockets until he found a card. He grabbed it and ran over to the containment door. He slid the keycard in front of the panel. The door clicked open and Socks charged out of the room. He ran into another glass room opposite from his. His feet slid and he fell forwards.
"We need to get you guys to the main office." Socks said. He began to walk down the hall. Stopping as he realized no one was following him.He turned around and saw Blaza holding Joocies body. Socks locked eyes with Meme, he sighed and waited for a few minutes while Blaza silently grieved. Laff walked over to Socks and touched his shoulder like he couldn't believe he was real.
"Okay, I'm ready to go." Blaza said in a strained voice. Standing up, he still looked like he wanted to cry. Meme began to lead him out of the large containment area.
"If i remember correctly the office is north of the is place, so we keep going straight we should arrive in less then-," Socks started then stopped as the reached a titanium door with a nameplate that read, 'Main office' "Okay then my memory serves me... somewhat correct."
"But what about Ally and Nadwe?" Meme asked.
"We get the keycard finding them will be a lot easier than finding shroobz, then convincing him that we're here to help or getting him to help, then getting him to show us where Ally and Nadwe are." Socks explained as he dug both of his inhuman claws into the small crack in the door. He coughed and attempted to pull them apart. "Alright stand back." He said his voice then lowered into a growl. He then began to rip the doors apart, the metal screeching in protest. After a few moments of this one of the doors gave in and collapsed into the room. While the other seemed to be clinging onto its last few wires. He turned to them with his wild yellow eyes. He then blinked and seemed to calm down. "In." He grunted. Laff and Meme walked past while Blaza walked in hesitantly afterwards.
"How is this even possible? The last time we talked you were forgetting who you were and you were fully a hunter" Laff stuttered. Socks paused and cleared his throat.
"I'm not fully sure, if I did know I would give you a straight answer. But it seems like after I knocked that tank off the roof I blacked out. I woke up at the bottom of the building, it felt like all my bones were shattered and broken. Then I hallucinated that I saw my family, I reached out to them and they told me if I went with them we could be together once more." Socks sighed, his voice breaking. "I didn't know until they had said just as a family that this was some sort of trick." Socks then went back to serious mode. "It was a hallucination provided by yours truly, the green flu. I denied it and told them I would rather die and it felt like I did. Until I realized I could stand, I realized that I had lived. I felt angry and frustrated but not at anything but myself. I made it a goal to find you guys. It seemed like fighting the hallucination provided by the green flu I still tapped into my humanity. Sometimes if I wanted to call into my inhuman strength or hearing I would have to let the hunter take control for a bit. But it felt like otherwise I was fully human." Socks explained. "I don't know why I was losing my memory though, perhaps that I would forget you existed."
"That is a lot." Laff breathed.
"I know right?" Socks chuckled. "Anyways, I'll take watch you guys look for the keycard." Socks said as he began to walk out of the room. Stepping over the broken doors.
"That's a lot to take in." Meme muttered.
"Too much even." Blaza nodded. Laff then cheered and turned around holding a black and red keycard in his fingers.
"I think this is the universal keycard that Tommy was talking about." Laff said handing the keycard to Meme. Meme pulled out the keycard he had found on Tommy and realized something about them. They were the exact same.
"Gimme that keycard!" A voice shouted from the door. Everyone looked up to see a guy standing in a purple suit with a black gas mask. "Or pop goes the infected," He said revealing the familiar special infected with the muzzle of a gun buried in his hair, Socks.

I am still grounded but I had an opportunity to upload this and I took it. I'm actually quite happy with this chapter
Also like crap tons of Gone references- it's ridiculous.
