Chapter 2

"You wanna shoot the pilot one more time Laff just to make sure?" Nadwe asked Laff jokingly. Laff was standing next to him holding his pistol glaring at the dead pilot.
"I would do it again, he was a ZOMBIE, Nadwe." Laff told him, Nadwe smiled at him, he elbowed Laff's side and laughed.

"I'm just messing with you, man." Nadwe told him, shrugging innocently. Laff just looked at him and took a deep breath. Making sure that he had one last breath of fresh air before he slid on his gas mask since it was difficult to breath with it on. Nadwe walked away claiming that he was ready to go. Laff just stood staring through his gas mask lenses at the body of the pilot leaning up against the wall.

"Sorry I had to do that to youse," He whispered softly. "I just wanted to protect my friends."

"Laff what are you doing?" Laff heard someone ask. He spun around and saw Meme standing in front of him. "Are you okay?" He asked. Laff nodded and pointed to the pilot.
"I just felt bad, youse know?" He said his accent was sometimes hard to understand.

"I get it." They then sat in silence for a few seconds. Meme was staring at the floor awkwardly, while Laff just stared at him.
"Have you ever thought about what we might do if we saw Socks here?" Meme asked, breaking the silence. Laff hesitated, and he hesitated some more.
"I would shoot him." Laff said finally. Meme looked at him in surprise.
"You would really?" he asked.
"Depends, If he survived that fall then that most likely means he's infected or mutated, or he's a straight up zombie." Laff said, "If he's normal then yeah, I would hesitate." Laff clarified as Meme's gaze went horrified. Meme didn't look like he wanted either answer so Laff just shrugged and muttered "Depends, honestly." Meme bit his lip and raised one arm and waved over to where Ally was talking with Blaza.

"We should go talk to them huh?" He asked, Laff nodded cautiously making sure that Meme wasn't too mad. They walked over and heard Ally's conversation with Blaza.

"It's just a bunch of storage buildings which should contain some loot, even if that loot isn't ideal." She told Blaza who nodded and pointed down the alley.
"Some of them are closed but with these," Blaza said, spinning his crowbar around, "They shouldn't be too hard to crack open."
"You've got that right!" Joocie called, he was next to one of the storage buildings, he jammed the end of his crowbar underneath the large metal door. With all of his strength he pulled down on the crowbar, launching the door open. "Sweet! Ally's right there is good loot here!" He shouted as he ducked under the slightly open metal door running out a second later with another crowbar and a machete, a rare find. "There's also a shovel, a baseball bat and a golf club. These people must have been athletic or something." he said.
"Or melee murders," Nadwe said walking up to them.

"That everyone?" Ally asked, Her gaze flying over Blaza ,Laff, Meme, and Nadwe.
"Yeah, I think so." Meme said. Ally breathed in shakily. They had done this multiple times but it felt like they were more exposed with a smaller group. Laff counted the people that had died and their deaths, remembering each with gruesome details. Woolf, killed by Socks. Dino: Tank, Oompa: Tank, Muffin: Charger, Tbvg: Tank, Laff after seeing Tbh's body first hand and seeing the wounds, had deemed that he had either been attacked by a horde, Smoker, or hunter. Only because of the claw marks. So many had died from Tanks, but Socks, Socks had died trying to save the group from the Tank on Mercy Hospital's roof. Laff had been a bystander, he was helping Nadwe and Ally get in the helicopter, not even taking notice of the Tank, hoping he could get everyone inside before the Tank could hit them. He had only seen Meme standing next to the tank. His gun getting knocked out of his hand flying off the side of the building. Socks crash into the tank in a furious rage, screaming as they both went toppling off the side of the building Socks trying to scratch at the walls to make it. The Tank dragging him down, Laff turned away as they disappeared down into the dark abyss below. He clenched his fist. Best not to remember it now, but Laff's brain wasn't done with reminding him about how he failed to keep everyone safe. He could still see Socks smiling face, his one yellow eye, his positive hope that they would find a cure for him, even his orange hoodie. Almost as if that thought summoned it, a piece of orange fabric blew in front of Laff's face. He grabbed it out of the air and looked at it. The fabric pinched between his fingers.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered as he slid the fabric into his pocket.
"Laff are you okay?" Ally asked him, coming to stand next to him.
"Yeah I'm just remembering stuff." He reassured her. Ally looked at him skeptically. A hunter's cry could be heard in the distance.

"Hunters don't usually scream like that without reason." Laff pointed out to her. Ally also looked worried. They had started walking through the alley, both weary about their surroundings. Meme and Nadwe were just a few steps ahead while Blaza and Joocie were behind. None of them in a good pouncing position for a prowling hunter. Ally also looked slightly worried but she didn't dwell on it too long as she kept her eyes forward glancing at the buildings roofs for a lurking Smoker wanting to snag someone with its tongue or a Hunter looking for prey to pounce. Laff kept his eyes open for anything that might come from the sides, Boomers, spitters, Chargers, Jockey, whatever the green flu had to throw at them, which was more than anyone could ever imagine. He clutched his gun tightly, it was a simple gun, just a M-16 Assault Rifle, but it was a good gun nonetheless. Laff started to hear the maniacal laugh of a Jockey.
"One of the little Jockey bastards are around!" He called out. Ally instantly started firing and a few seconds later the laughter broke off into a dying pain filled scream which made him wince. They moved through the alleys only encountered a few infected, but little to none Special infected. Which made Laff uneasy, where were all the special infected? Yeah I mean he didn't mind that he didn't have to deal with them but where were they? They started walking past a set of graffiti on the walls he stopped as one of the sentences caught his eye.

"Peter, the truck is done and we are waiting for you, Please don't be long." Laff stared at the sentence for a bit. Making sure he read it correctly.
"Guys, I think I found our way out of here."

With the message from Laff, Blaza felt a bit better about their situation. Now all they needed to find was this supposed 'Truck' in the message that was gonna get them out of here. Nadwe and Blaza grouped up as Joocie went to talk with Meme.

"Isn't this exciting? We finally have a goal we can work towards then wandering aimlessly around." Nadwe asked, smiling. Blaza glanced at him and he felt himself start to smile at the fifteen year old's confidence.
"I think we just have to stick together and we'll make it through anything." Blaza assured him, Nadwe glanced up at Blaza and started gnawing on the side of his thumb.

"I mean," Nadwe started as he examined his finger that had started to bleed, he wiped his thumb on the side of his pants and regripped his small submachine gun. It was just big enough for Nadwe to carry comfortably. "We stuck together as a group throughout our trek to Mercy hospital. We lost almost everyone." Nadwe pointed out, obviously still remembering what happened in the sewers. "I've tried to stay strong but man, even if I'm not infected, this green flu is tearing me apart." Nadwe muttered. Blaza nodded, he understood that way too well. Like most of the surviving members of the group, he was still devastated by the death of his friends. Blaza heard coughing and he instantly looked to the rest of the group.

"Is that you?" He asked no one in particular just looking for an answer. Everyone shook their head no and Blaza's eyes instantly went to the rooftops to see if there was a smoker lurking about up on the roofs. He saw nothing and held his rifle close to his chest, he fidgeted with the scope to make sure it was on tight. He then felt something wrap around his torso and drag him back.
"GUYS?" He screamed, Nadwe instantly turned around his eyes scoping for the smoker that had Blaza ensnared. Blaza felt what he had to assume was a smoker's tongue tightening around his throat. Then he was suddenly released, dropping to the ground landing hard on his side. He heard a ripping sound and saw that his sleeve was torn open. He glanced and saw he had landed on a shard of glass, it sliced open his shoulder leaving it to bleed. He breathed in sharply from the sudden pain. Ally ran up to him, she looked at him worriedly.
"Are you alright Blaza?" She asked him. Blaza gritted his teeth as he rubbed the cut.

"I've been better." He groaned. Ally glanced back at Meme and Laff, Meme instantly running over, he slid down on his knees next to Blaza quickly moving his backpack off his back and setting it down next to Blaza, he dug inside looking for something. Quickly locating it he removed a first aid kit and took out some bandages. Blaza rolled up his sleeve wincing as pain shot up his arm.

"Hold still, I've done this before." Meme muttered to him as Blaza shuffled in discomfort. "Lucky for us, a safe house is up ahead. Shouldn't be too long now." Meme told Blaza, He finished bandaging up the wound. He stood up and held out a hand for Blaza to take, Blaza took it and Meme helped him up.
"I hate Smokers." Blaza muttered. Meme rolled his eyes and laughed, his usual jackal/hyena laugh. Of course when you heard Meme laugh you had to laugh as well. Both Blaza and Meme stood laughing, the green flu had thrown so much at them. Yet they could still laugh. Nadwe walked over and looked at them confused.

"What are you guys laughing at?" He asked them. Blaza just shook his head and walked over to Nadwe. He ruffled his hair and looked at him.

"Don't worry about it Nad, " Blaza told him, Nadwe looked at him and bit his lip. "Also you gotta stop doing that." Blaza said.
"Stop doing what?"

"Biting at your finger or lip, or whatever." Blaza shrugged tiredly. He hadn't even realized he was that tired. Nadwe looked at him in surprise, he looked at his hand. He turned around and started walking away muttering something about how he hadn't even noticed.

Nadwe sat in the safe house, humming the tune to one of his favorite songs. Back when he could actually listen to music. The song reminded him about when he was younger. Always wanting to be edgy or something. Now all he wanted to do was survive. Oh and eat, eating was up there on the list too. Obviously both were a lot to ask for. Okay maybe not the eating thing since they did still have some food, but the surviving thing. Yeah that was a challenge that Nadwe never thought he would have to face. At first he thought that this whole Zombie apocalypse thing was pretty cool. He got to hang out with his best bud, Muffin. He also got to be one of those big heroes, he thought surviving a zombie apocalypse would be easy. Since he had played so many first person shooter games and Zombie horror games. Obviously Nadwe had never been so wrong. Nadwe breathed in he sat staring at a notebook he had found in the safehouse. He really didn't know what he wanted to do with it. He flipped through the pages. All of them were empty, like the person got the notebook and lost it. He then got an idea, he went to the first page and grabbed the pencil he had also found in the safehouse. He began to write the words 'Green flu survival guide' and stared at the title carefully.
"Nah to basic." he muttered, he quickly erased it and started running through name ideas. "What's something that would cover everything?" he wondered aloud. He instantly got an idea. He scribbled the words into the top of the page,

'Left 4 dead.'
