I promised to be numb but somehow you were the one

"Tyler! This is important. I need to see the security camera footage from this morning."

Tyler turned around to see Ethan Nestor barge into the room.

"You know I can't do that. Do you even have a valid reason why you need to see it?" Tyler replied calmly.

"Well. . . someone stole my lunch and I want to know who did it." Ethan looked away as he realised that his reason was a bit childish. Tyler raised an eyebrow as if to say "really? that's all?"

"Look. It was fish stew with sauerkraut, bacon, and other really good stuff. That was gonna be the best damn meal I've ever had and now it's gone," Ethan declared.

Tyler shrugged his shoulders and pulled up the security footage of the lunch room from around 12.

Ethan leaned in to the computer and saw the thief. He recognised her right away as Y/N. She opened the community fridge, took out the stew and tossed it into the trash bin.

"My God! What a monster!" Ethan shouted, not believing his eyes. After seeing the video evidence Ethan sighed and turned to walk out. Tyler just rolled his eyes when Ethan was out the door.

Ethan kept his grief on the down low until the next morning rolled around. Ethan had kept his lunch in a different spot and was thoroughly enjoying it during the break. Then Y/N came and sat down near him. Ethan didn't want to outright expose her as angry as he was. So he started up a conversation.

"Hey Y/N. What do you have for lunch today?"

"Just a sub and a salad today. What about you?"

"Well I was hoping to have leftover fish stew, but it's all gone now. I'm just having a turkey club."

"What happened to your fish stew?"

Ethan could not believe what he was hearing. He almost burst out laughing at how awkward this conversation suddenly got.

"It was missing yesterday. Didn't you hear?"

"No, I didn't. I'm sorry."

She's straight up lying to me. I can't believe this woman! Ethan thought as he just smiled and continued eating. He didn't understand what her motive could be for throwing out his food and then acting friendly and pretending like nothing even happened.

When the next morning came around Ethan was getting ready to eat his (not fish stew) lunch, Y/N came and sat near him again.

"Ethan, I feel really bad about your lunch so I got you some fish stew as a replacement for your lost one." Y/N handed him a container with perfectly good fish stew in it.

"What? But. . . you were the one who threw my fish stew out in the first place. Why did you get me a new one?" Ethan could no longer hide his confusion. Y/N looked just as confused. Then it came to her.

"That container I threw out the other day was your fish stew?! I threw it out because it smelled really bad and I thought it had moulded. Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I didn't realise."

It got really silent until they both started laughing.

"I understand I guess, but you still shouldn't just throw away other people's food without them knowing." Ethan said after he recovered from laughing so hard.

"I know. I'll never do it again," Y/N smiled.
