Chapter 7

Magic's Point of View

I turned around, fearing what my eyes will meet. The thing's breath was heavy but it's voice scared more chills down my spine. I knew this 'thing's' voice now, in fact, I remember it very well for I've heard it before, although much more chilling.

"Who are you, girl? What are you doing on my lands?" Jerome said, feeling the heat from his fur as it prickles my neck as a sign that he moved closer. I heard him sniff me and, although I couldn't see him, I could tell he tensed.

He recognized my scent.

"A sorcerer girl?" He growled fiercely. "How could there be another sorcerer..." He muttered to himself, seemingly taking his attention off me. I took this short time to jump off the top of the tree and run into the woods.

"Come back here, girl!" He growled loudly as he, too, jumped down and ran after me on all four.

Trees were whizzing by, branches from bushes scratching at me, and roots trying to trip me. Even through that, I continued to run. I can't allow myself to be caught, especially by baccas' because I won't be able to save Sahjan's village. I kept running those thoughts through my head, keeping me from slowing down.

I can't have things slow me down, not for this task.

I forced myself to run faster and faster through the thick environment, earning many bruises and cuts, but that wasn't enough to slow me down. Soon enough, unfortunately, I came upon an open field.

"No where to hide..." His chilling voice ringing around me. I couldn't tell where it was coming from so I knew I had to get out, now.

I looked around rabidly, searching for an exit like prey running from a predator. 'No,' I tell myself sternly, 'I cannot fall to something so simple. I simply cannot!'

Across the field, I saw a true exit for there was the gate, a landmark of the entrance to Aeringere (aee-rin-gerr) where the special witch awaits for my arrival. I sprinted towards it but soon enough, the pounding of four feet sounded behind me.

I took a peek and sure enough, there he was, gaining on me. I refocused on the gate, running faster than I ever thought I could. But even I knew that I was slowing down, and effect being my heavy breath and droplets of sweat.

His footsteps were getting louder, harsher, and most of all, closer. 'No, keep running!' I screamed at myself as I somehow found more energy to go on.

But things were whizzing by my arms and legs. As I ran, I noticed arrows with their ends covered in a substance I know well, for it was used long ago against my kind.

This scared me to the bone. What do they want from me? Why me, of all people?

Why?

A large pain landed in my arm, around my bicep, making me fall to the ground to a stop. I looked over at what caused the excruciating pain and saw an arrow embedded in my arm. The mere sight made me want to throw up.

I looked away as nausea started taking over me, and dark spots were starting to appear in my vision. The last thing I saw before I fell to the ground was a furry figure walking over to my body.

Seto's Point of View

The Villager looked at me with a new grim look. He didn't look nearly as grim as before, ahen he was talking to other villagers. This 'Magic' girl must be a serious topic for him.

Then again, when would it not be? Another sorcerer, I mean, sorceress? That's completely new and unheard of.

"So you are a sorcerer, looking for Magic because she is a sorceress?" He asked and I nodded my answer. He looked away, as if pondering whether to speak or not.

Eventually, he speaks again. "And why, again, should I tell you about her?" He answered cautiously and by now, I could tell that it'd take years to get the information I needed at a pace like this.

"I need to know because I have no place left. She's a sorceress, so she probably knows what it's like to live in exile." I said, wishing that he'd just tell me about her. I honestly just want meet her, because she's different like me. I thought maybe, just maybe, there could be a way we could connect and live as our ancestors did before we were just about wiped out.

The villager let out a sigh of relief and sat next to me. "Magic was a special, but unfortunate, child back then." He spoke sadly and I tilted my head. What did he mean by that?

"She used to have two parents..."

*Flashback*

Sahjan walked into Magic's house. Her parents asked him to come over that day to talk about something important. He was close with Magic's parents and so he accepted the invitation.

The two sorcerers were very nice to Sahjan and helped him when he needed it. They were both such sweet people and did anything to make others they cared for happy. The two were very good friends with Sahjan overall.

Inside the house was the usual needed supplies. A workbench, a chest and a furnace, but Sahjan knew that sorcerers didn't need them but just used them as a facade to hide their true identities. Sorcerers didn't need normal supplies that players need, instead they need culdrons, access to resources, and glass bottles.

He smiled down at Magic as she ran into the room. "Mommy, Daddy," she called out. "Jahn's here, Jahn's here!" She ran up to me, but she was short, so she hugged my leg. I pat her head softly, "Hello, my dear child."

Her parents, Sharen Seto and Vaeger Seto, walked into the room and greeted me with happy smiles. Magic left my leg to hug her parents and I smiled at the child.

After exchanging a few more small greetings and talking lightly, Sahjan brought up the invitation. "Ah yes, I almost forgot, yes, yes..." Sahjan spoke. "You did say tha you needed to talk about something important?"

The two parents told little Magic to go and play and so the child left us. I looked at them, confused at why they would send her away. When Magic was out of earshot, the two spoke. "It's almost her birthday, and we wanted to throw a party for her and we were wondering if you could help us."

"Oh yes, how could I forget!" Sahjan exclaimed.

"But, Magic specifically asked us for fireworks on her birthday and we couldn't say no." The two said and my eyes instantly widened.

"Both of you know well that sorcerers can only make them, for they have only access to the needed resources, and you are one of the few who are lucky to be here!" I exclaimed. I don't want my friends to be jailed, exiled, or even...No, please, don't do this."

"Doing this much for the child...Is it worth it, yes?" I asked sadly and they replied, "Seeing her happy is what we want for her. We just have to keep quiet, alright?" They said.

'But is it worth risking the happiness for the rest of her life?' I thought sadly, but I knew I could deter them from what they wished. I know they wanted to make the child happy, but to this extent?

A week later, Magic's birthday occured. Sahjan was watching the beautiful fireworks as they flew and blew up, because they were not at all common. He enjoyed their light as Magic danced around happily.

Although her cute squeals of happiness and the loud boom of the fireworks must've attracted others that were probably in the forest because soon enough, people came and saw all of us. They immediately ran away to find others to report us to the moderators, the police of this land. No one really knew what happened to people who dealt with the moderators.

We ran back to the house quickly, but the moderators must've been able to track the parents because they kept on getting messages through their chats from them. We went to the back door to exit but as Sharen and Vaeger tried to leave, an invisible glass like thing appeared and no matter how hard they pushed, they couldn't get through.

But Magic, on the other hand, walked out as easily as I did. "Mommy, Daddy," She called out worriedly to her struggling parents, "What's wrong? Why can't you walk out?"

Sharen and Vaeger noticed Magic and looked at Sahjan. "Sahjan, take her with you and run. The moderators have caught us, so there isn't hope for us. Go!" They said and tears started slipping down Magic's cheeks.

"Mommy, Daddy, what are you talking about?" She asked in her small, cute but worried voice. It was noticible that her voice cracked as she spoke.

I shook my head to them, "I can't leave you here, no, no, no I can't." I said but their pleading looks were tearing me apart.

"Please Sahjan," Sharen said. "I can't bear to lose another child to them, so as our final request..." She couldn't speak any more and so Vaeger finished her sentence, but he wasn't any better. "Please Sahjan, for us. Take her away from here, as far from the moderators as possible. Stay clear of the youtubereans and keep her safe-"

He was cut off by a large ship above their house. A moderators voice spoke from above but they paid no attention.

"Go Sahjan, please!" He pleaded and Magic cried out, "No, Mommy, Daddy, c'mon! Let's go!" She tugged on her dad's pantleg and her mom's long skirt but her pulling and tugging helped in no way.

A creaking noise came from the house and Sahjan knew they were lifting the house away. Sahjan made the decision and snatched the crying Magic up into his arms. Magic's last glimpse of her parents was of them being lifted in the house, away from her.

"Wow..." Seto spoke. He felt winded by Magic's childhood. He never felt more alike with someone ever before.

"Y'know, there was also another child-" Sahjan started but was cut off by the sound of glass breaking. They both stood up, looking for what the cause was of the unpleasant sound. It came from the sorcery room and so they walked over.

Inside, there was just a villager trying to get water from a culdron but accidentally dropped the glass bottle. The two sighed in relief.

"So, wait. Who was the other child?" Seto asked Sahjan. "I will tell you another time. For now, you must go after Magic. She cannot bring back our village by herself."

"What?" Seto asked but Sahjan didn't reply. Instead he just pushed him to the exit.

"Wait, wait, wait. I need to know more!" Seto exclaimed but Sahjan didn't listen.

"Magic is heading for Aeringere, where she is in search of a well-known witch, but few know her. You've probably heard of her so no need for explanation-" He explained quickly but Seto stopped him.

"Wait, what do you mean by all of this?" He asked but all he got in return was a pus out of the trapped door. Sahkan's head popped out from under the trapdoor and he answered, "Magic will explain. You must find her and head to Aeringere. That' s all I will tell you, for now." And with that, the trapdoor closed and Seto was alone once again.

"Well, here goes..." He mutters to himself as he follows her scent towards Aeringere.
