ONE WEEK LATER
Harry and I had been lying in bed for the past 2 hours, discussing the renovations that were to be done in the house. I propped myself up in my elbows, looking over at him as he lay on his side facing me.
“I think we should paint it dark colours, like red and brown.” Harry argued. “And then white curtains.”
I sighed, “Maybe brown and grey on the whole floor, with white curtains?”
“Ohh, grey.” Harry nodded. “That’s a better idea.” He praised.
I sunk back down into the bed, pulling the sheets around me as we switched topic again.
“And the floors-“
“Wood.”
“Light wood.”
I turned and pouted, “Dark.” I yawned.
“Fine.” He kissed my cheek, “We’ll talk about this later.”
The conversation was dropped as soon as his arms came around me to pull me closer, pulling me into his chest. I nearly fell asleep again; soft kisses were placed on my head. Harry cleared his throat before speaking, breaking the soft silence.
“My parents will be here any time now.”
I groaned, “Maybe we can all hang out in here.”
“We have that big get together later on, have you already forgotten?”
My eyes widened, “Uh I- no, I obviously didn’t.”
I wiggled out of his grip, sitting up in the bed. I rubbed my eyes, arms falling limp to my side as I looked out the window and then to the clock. It was now 1:00, and we weren’t the least bit ready. I turned to Harry, who was already looking over at me, a smirk now coming to his face. My hand went up to poke his side,
“Get dressed, Harold.” I commanded, furrowing my eyebrows at him.
“You should get dressed too.” He pointed out.
I raised my hand, “Actually, I need a shower.”
“So do I.” He shrugged. “It looks like we’ll have to share.”
“Shame.” I shook my head, getting out of the bed.
I motioned for Harry to follow, and he quickly got up. I was sure to not let anything happen whilst showering, feeling sick but keeping it to myself. Today Anne and I were going to my ultrasound, and the nerves were really getting to me. We had planned to go shopping afterwards for some last minute Christmas presents, meeting up with Perrie and Sophia, as well as picking up Gemma.
I was distant with Harry while we showered; I had been distant for a while now- since I got the news. I was trying to keep quiet, trying not to make him suspicious with anything. He didn’t seem to take notice on my lack of communication, only because of how hectic our work schedules have been over the past week. I decided it was best if I acted normally, knowing he would pick up on my behavior at some point.
We were quick in the shower, exchanging kisses in between our routines and then getting out. I locked myself in the closet afterwards, deciding what to wear was proven to be a hard task for me. I had to plan my outfit for tonight in advance, I was well aware of how fancy it would be, and it would be a complete mess if I left everything last minute. The gathering was quite intimidating for me to be quite honest, famous people as well as some of our close friends would be there. I wasn’t sure whose home we were going to, Harry refused to tell me, but I knew it would be a large home.
I decided on jeans and a nice loose sweater. I left my hair down, allowing it to dry into its natural waves. Once I emerged from the closet I saw Harry sitting on the end of the bed, a towel wrapped around his waist.
“What took so long?”
“I couldn’t decide.” I pouted. “Is this alright?”
Harry stood from his spot, walking closer to me, eyeing me up and down as he neared. His hand reached to the sleeve of my sweater, taking it between his fingers and feeling the texture.
“You look beautiful, as always.” Harry complimented, kissing my shoulder.
“Get dressed.” I nudged his cheek with my nose, his dimples sinking in with my action.
His hands fell to my hips, holding me as he went in front, now looking down at me. “I love you.”
“And I love you.” I nodded my head, leaning up and kissing his cheek. “Get dressed they’ll be here any minute.”
I pulled his arms off me, showing him towards the closet and closing the door behind him. I shut the bedroom door upon my departure, straightening out my sweater as I walked towards the stairs. I opened up all the curtains, and let the dogs into the backyard before I filled the kettle with water, setting it on the stove so I could be ready for when Harry’s family arrived.
I think I was most excited about seeing Gemma, missing her humor and slick remarks. She hasn’t failed to put a smile on my face. She really was exactly like Harry; more mature, but still like Harry. They shared the same style in a sense, leaning towards more comfortable, edgy clothes. Their humor was the same, understanding each other extremely well when it came to inside jokes. I loved watching the two together, always happy around one another.
I believed their separation played a huge roll in their bond. Now that Harry was set to travel the world, he wouldn’t be around as much, which is why I thought Gemma cherished her time with him, why there were fewer fights.
I walked to the back window, passing our small lit Christmas tree, leaning on the edge as I watched the dogs in the back yard. The backyard was huge, trees lining the high fence, a small hammock hanging between two- which was now weighed down by the snow. Harry had talked to me about getting a pool after the snow had gone, placing it in the center of the flat grass. The more I looked outside at the shaded yard, the more I wanted to preserve its natural beauty. It stretched out far, but not too far. A small hill was lining the back edge; the dogs ran up the side, and then back down its steepness. The leaves swayed as the cold winter breeze blew through them, small snowflakes falling from the pale sky.
I decided to let the dogs back inside, opening the door and being greeted by the sharp cold air. I stepped out in my socks, calling the two dogs over. Ruffles sunk into the deep snow around the porch as Champ ran into the house, dragging snow in behind him. I stepped out and hooked Ruffles out, wiping off the small sweater he wore. I shivered as I went back inside, closing and locking the door behind me. I placed Ruffles down, taking the sweater off his shaking body and drying his paws. Trails of snow lead off into the hall way where Champ had taken off. I groaned as I followed them to the stairs, cursing as the steps were now wet with paw prints. I rushed up the stairs, watching out for the wet puddles and went into our bedroom, the only open door on the top floor.
“Amelia!” Harry yelled as I walked inside.
I got to the door, pushing it wider as I looked in. An unimpressed Harry stood before the bed, shaking his head as his fingers squeezed the bridge of his nose. Champ was on top of the bed sheets- the white bed sheets. I gasped as I came in closer, shooing the dog off the bed and out of the room. After I closed the door I turned back to Harry, stifling a giggle as I watched him shake his head.
“Are you going to help me or not?” I questioned, pulling back the sheets.
He sighed, “This is why they aren’t allowed up here.”
“You’re lucky I’m not making you sleep in this, keep quiet, Harold.” I scolded.
He went around to the other side of the bed, pulling the sheets back with me until the bed was stripped clean. We carried them down the stairs and put them into the washing machine, then racing back up the stairs to make the bed again. Harry propped me onto his shoulders so I could reach the sheets we had stacked high. I pulled out the sheets, handing them down to Harry and wiggling on his shoulders. He slowly turned and walked out of the closet, causing me to shriek and duck my head as we went out the low door.
My hands held onto Harry’s head, placing my forehead on the top of his head, squeezing my eyes shut. The sheets were thrown onto the bed once he reached our destination, and Harry leaned over. I begged for him not to drop me onto the bed, holding his head even tighter as I pleaded with him repeatedly. He quickly grabbed my sides, doubling over and flinging me into the soft mattress. I screamed as I hit the bed, covering my face as I laughed at my dramatic reaction.
“You’re being too loud!” Harry shouted as he attacked my sides with his fingers, digging them into my skin.
My legs came up to my chest, pitchy laughs escaping my lips as I tried to roll onto my front. Harry jumped up onto the bed, straddling my hips and holding my arms down. He leaned down, kissing both of my cheeks before resting his forehead on mine. His minty breath blew against my face. I leaned up and placed a kiss on his lips, wiggling my arms out of his grip. They went up to his neck, deepening the kiss as he leaned down onto me. My neck became his neck subject as he peppered kisses up the sensitive skin. As he came to face me again, now mere centimeters away from each other, the doorbell rang.
Harry blew out a breath as he nuzzled his face into my neck. My arms wrapped around him as he sighed into my neck. His hands wrapped around my back, my legs linking behind him as he stood up. I kissed his neck as we went down the stairs, frustrating him further. Once we got to the last step Harry put me back down, placing one final kiss on my lips before he went to the door.
I went behind him as the door was pulled open, exposing the faces that I had missed over the short period of time. Harry moved to the side, greeting them as they stepped inside, bags in hand.
“Oh it’s finally warm in here.” Gemma praised, walking over to me.
She took me into her arms, rubbing my back as her chin rested on my shoulder. Her hair was a different colour now, and I took a strong liking to her bold choice. She kissed my forehead as she finished greeting me, walking to Harry and allowing Anne to see me. She gave me a knowing smile, making me blush as I chuckled looking down. She opened her arms, motioning for me to walk into them. Once I did I was taken in by her warm embrace, her hands cupping up at my shoulder blades as she whispered into my ear.
“What time is the appointment?”
“4:00.” I whispered back, pulling out and looking at her. “I say we head out soon, so we can shop first.”
She raised her eyebrows, “Well, that sounds like a wonderful idea! I know exactly what I’m going to buy for everyone; since I haven’t had the chance to shop I’m so far behind.” She gushed. “This might not end well.”
I laughed, “Just between us,” I motioned my finger back and forth. “I haven’t gone shopping yet either.”
“Now, Anne, don’t hog her! I still haven’t gotten a chance to say hello you won’t let her go!” Robin yelled sarcastically.
She looked at me and laughed, letting go of my back and pushing me into his direction. I gave him a shy smile as my arms opened up to him, walking into his arms. I haven’t really talked to Robin very much, he was a great man- a very great man- but I was always so shy for some reason, I had distanced myself from him. I wouldn’t completely avoid him, we would always greet each other and occasionally engage in conversation whenever something came up, but other than that we both stayed clear of each other.
“It feels like I haven’t seen you in forever!” We let go of each other. “What have you been up to?”
I shrugged, “I was on the x-factor, no big deal.”
“So was I.” Harry piped.
Gemma rolled her eyes, slapping him in the chest. “Shut up.” She laughed. “You didn’t even win.” She whispered.
“Oh we watched you perform! Simply wonderful that was.” He nodded. “And when does your tour start?”
“3 weeks.” I sighed.
“Oh, now don’t be nervous! That’ll be the best time of your life, I’m sure!” Anne encouraged.
“You’ll be a star.” Gemma gawked.
I laughed and shook my head. Patting Robin on the back, I turned to face Harry. He was turned into the closet, hanging up his family’s coats. I lead everyone into the kitchen, turning on the stove and warming the water for tea. They all took a seat at the island, quietly talking with each other before the dogs came running through the living room door.
“Oh!” Anne shouted as Champ ran to her chair. “He’s so big!”
Harry walked in, picking Ruffles up off the floor and making his way to Anne. “We also have a rat.”
“Harry.” I glared.
Anne’s mouth fell open, covering it with her hand as she stared at the small dog in Harry’s hands. She quickly contained herself, reaching up and taking the dog into her arms. She pets his ears down, cooing at the sight before her. I smiled before I turned to the kettle, steam now pouring out the top.
I reached for the cups, carefully grabbing them, being sure not to drop any like I had in the past. Harry placed his hand on my back as he got the tea bags off the shelf, sorting them into cups. I nudged his hip with mine as I poured the water into the cups, sliding them off to Harry so he could hand them out. He took two cups in each hand, sliding them off in front of the three seated at the island, and then taking a seat himself. I finished off my tea, cupping it in my hands as I went to sit beside Harry. I placed my cup out in front of me, letting it cool before drinking it. Harry’s hand took to my leg, and mine went to the top.
I rubbed his hand as mine sat on top, occasionally linking our fingers. We all talked for about an hour, keeping my mind off the important appointment I had. Once I remembered I snapped my head to the clock, 3:14. I turned back to look at Anne,
“I think we should go now.” I nodded at her, tilting my head to the clock.
She looked behind me, eyes scanning the clock. “Oh yes yes, we should head out.”
“Head out where?” Harry looked at me as I stood up.
I looked at Anne quickly, “Just shopping, Harry. We won’t be long.”
“Why can’t I come?”
“Because we’re doing girl things, stay here.” I pressed. “Maybe we’ll come back and pick everyone up, if you want.”
He sighed. “Text me.”
I nodded, standing up and walking to the foyer with Anne. Ruffles was reluctantly placed down from her arms, now standing up and stretching out, Anne went to the closet to get her coat out. I followed close behind, taking mine and slipping it on as well. I went upstairs and got my bag, putting my phone inside of it, along with my keys and heading back down.
Harry stood at the door with his mum as she zipped up her coat. I reached the bottom, going to the closet and putting on my boots. I stood up and pushed the stray hairs behind my ears, looking up at Harry. His hands rubbed my arms, looking down at me. He seemed hesitant to let me go, even if it was only with him mum.
“I won’t be long.” I chuckled, kissing his cheek.
He breathed out, “fine, fine.” He leaned down and kissed me quickly. “I’ll be waiting.”
“Have fun!” I waved, as Anne and I dashed out the door, slamming it behind us.
I unlocked the car and motioned for her to get into the passenger side, as I ran to my side. No one was on the curb today, which I was thankful for, not wanting them to be stalking us whilst Harry’s family was staying with us. We did up our belts, and I pulled out of the driveway, heading down the road and driving to our destination.
“Are you ready, love?”
“No.” I sighed. “But I’m excited.”
She hummed. “It’s both scary and exciting, it’s a good feeling I assure you.”
“I hope so.” I glanced over.
I lay on the cold bed, nervously awaiting the doctor. Anne sat beside me, near the large window I was so amazed with. The borders were a dark blue; curtains sat at a high arch, falling to the floor in a soft yellow flow. The room was red; the floor was a light wood. It didn’t make sense, the colours didn’t seem to match, but in a way they did.
I had messaged Perrie and Sophia just a few moments ago, telling them Anne and I would be meeting them within the hour. Anne discussed picking up Gemma, and leaving Harry with Robin. She then reevaluated her decision, saying that she would message Harry and ask if he would join us on our Christmas shopping. The doctor walked inside before we received a reply, shutting the door behind her as she walked to me, shaking mine and Anne’s hand.
Her chair squeaked as she sat in front of her computer, pulling up files and plugging things in. She introduced herself as Dr. Shaw, and spoke to me about the procedures we would be doing, which consisted of only an ultrasound. She talked too much, and I found it hard to listen to her. I nodded my head as she spoke, but I had already forgotten every word she said.
“I’m going to need you to pull your shirt up, Amelia.” She motioned as she stood up, a small bottle in her hands.
I did as told and pulled it up, rolling it just beneath my bra.
“This will be cold.” She warned.
I watched as she applied the cold gel to my stomach, feeling the goose bumps begin to form around the cooled area. She sat back down, instrument in hand, and pulled up another window. The device was placed onto my stomach, and my heart began to pound. I wasn’t scared anymore; there wasn’t really a point in being afraid. I was nervous about seeing everything, being assured that I was carrying something.
“Alright, so right now we’re searching for the fetus.” She spoke, concentrating on the screen.
A screen also faced Anne and I. I watched as she moved around on my stomach, searching slowly for any signs.
A few minutes had passed and she hadn’t found anything yet, but assured that she was very close. I turned to look at Anne, who gave me a small smile before gaping back up. I followed her sights back to the screen where the fetus had been found. I gasped, not meaning to be so loud, but I was extremely excited at this point. It all felt real in that very moment, that I was actually with child. In that very moment I felt ready, I felt nervous and excited, but I felt so ready. My hands went to my chest as I watched the screen in awe. Dr. Shaw had pointed out where it was for clarification, using her mouse to show me how far along I actually was.
“You’re nearly one month along, Amelia.” She smiled at me. “At this point you won’t be showing, not for at least another month-month and a half.”
“Okay.” I nodded.
Small scans were printed off and handed to me before she wiped the gel off me, telling me precautions I was meant to take.
“You’ll be required to be healthy from now on, I wouldn’t recommend eating a lot of junk food, but I would recommend eating three good meals a day with snacks in between. I would warn you about exercise, nothing too major on your part- no contact sports, nothing that would involve you having potential to fall; it could all lead to a miscarriage, which wouldn’t be so good.”
“Okay.” I repeated, sitting up and looking at Anne, tears now in her eyes. “Anne, don’t cry.” I almost laughed.
“I’m just going to get you some paper work for the vaccines you’ll need, and then you’re free to go!” The doctor said, taking to the door and leaving.
I slid off the table and walked to Anne, she stood, and I took her into my arms. She wasn’t crying hard, sniffling occasionally before she pulled away and looked at me, a smile creeping onto her lips.
“I’m so excited.” She smiled. “I’m so happy for you and Harry, this is so wonderful.”
I wiped her cheek, “Stop crying.”
She lightly laughed, looking down and wiping under her eyes, taking a deep breath before turning back to me, a smile now on her lips. I hugged her again, a smile still plastered on my face. We were interrupted by my phone going off in my bag, causing me to release an annoyed groan and walk to it. I dug it out of my bag, and Harry’s ID was flashing on the screen, and so I answered.
“Are we meeting at the mall?” He questioned. “My mum was talking to me about it, but she isn’t answering me.”
I turned to Anne, covering the microphone. “Are we meeting them at the mall?”
“If you would like.” She shrugged.
I uncovered my phone, “Meet us at the mall, Perrie and Sophia and coming as well.”
Harry groaned. “Why?”
“I promised them I would, they aren’t so bad, Harold.” I pressed. “Stop complaining and get to the mall.”
“Where do we meet?”
“Front entrance.” I said as the doctor walked back into the room.
She cleared her throat, “I have your appointment ready Miss Lee.”
“Harry I need to go.”
“Where are you?” He questioned, calmly.
I bit my lip, “I’m setting up an appointment at the doctors, for a checkup before tour starts, would you start heading out now?”
“I love you.” He shouted.
“Love you.”
I quickly hung up, placing my phone into my bag along with the print outs the doctor had given me. She sat back down on her old chair, explaining everything to me for a second time and giving me my appointment papers. Anne and I thanked her before we left the room, to which she congratulated us on the news. With a final wave Anne and I were out the door, now heading back to my car and straight to the mall. I knew I shouldn’t have left all my shopping for the very last day, but I seemed to leave all responsibilities to the very last day, rushing through things.
Anne and I spoke while we drove to the mall, and I told her about Sophia and Perrie. She knew of them, but wanted more background. I told her Perrie was very funny, that she was loud and very sweet- standing at the same height as me. I told her Sophia was very reserved, but also kind and talkative once she was comfortable with everyone. I explained how she was much taller than me, standing at almost the same height as Harry, and how she intimidated me at times.
I told her about how Harry wasn’t very outgoing around Sophia, but took a liking to Perrie. I believed it was because of how new Sophia was to the scene, only becoming official with Liam a few months prior, she was in a different territory. Perrie was sympathetic towards her, going to all lengths to make her feel as comfortable as possible whilst out and about with the group, which I wasn’t even very comfortable with. I felt intimidated by the girlfriends, for a reason I couldn’t explain.
All my talking leads us to the mall, getting to the front entrance and finding parking as well as our family. We drove around, and passed Harry, Robin, and Gemma as they walked towards the entrance. I rolled down my window, showing down beside them.
“Hey.” I casually said. “Harry Stylessss!”
Harry turned his head, sunglasses nearly falling off his face from the spin. Gemma broke into laughter as she watched his reaction; he now shot me a glare.
“Get in, get in.” I unlocked the doors.
They all climbed into the back seat, Harry complaining about my greeting, but I don’t think anyone was actually listening to him. I grew frustrated as we rounded the parking lot for the fifth time, no parking spot in sight. Harry assured that there would be one any second now, but repeated himself numerous times throughout our rounds. I was about to park in another plaza before Harry shouted from the back seat,
“There! Right there, Amelia there!”
I looked to where he was pointing, quickly signaling and getting to the parking spot. I leaned back in my seat once the car was turned off, Looking around, and knowing we wouldn’t be able to remember where we parked.
Anne and I gathered our bags, stepping out along with the others and walking to the entrance. I locked the car as I followed behind the group with Harry. His arm linked behind my back, and he leaned down to kiss my temple.
“Miss me?” He questioned as his hand slipped down my arm to my hand.
I looked up at him, “Of course I did.”
He shook his head at my response, laughing as he turned to face the floor. We walked hand in hand through the entrance, looking around to see if Perrie and Sophia had turned up yet. It was a bad idea for all of us to join at the mall, knowing it would only attract large groups- but only realizing it now.
We walked deeper into the mall, so far we weren’t noticed. We took to the center of the mall, now finally finding the two girls we were searching for. I waved them over, Harry lowly groaned as they came our way, causing me to discreetly nudge him.
“Hii Amelia!” Perrie cheered as she hugged me, followed by Sophie.
We all gathered around, making a game plan for our shopping day. Harry, Perrie, Sophia, Gemma and I would be going one way, and Anne and Robin would be going the other. Christmas shopping was going to be hard, so I needed to get one of the girls to get his gift for me without him catching on. I wasn’t completely set on what I wanted to get him, but I had my eye on the new iPhone, since he had been complaining about his cracked screen for the past week.
We agreed to meet back in an hour, and we wasted no time in taking to the stores. Harry and I remained holding hands, Perrie, Gemma and Sophia stood at my side as we walked the crowded halls of the mall. Harry’s hand tightened around mine occasionally as we passed larger groups, keeping me much closer than before
I pulled Perrie closer to me, whispering into her ear about getting Harry the phone.
“I have the cash in my bag, I just need you to get the phone for me and say it’s for someone else.”
“Of course, it’s a deal!” She giggled. “Let’s all go in, it’s just around the corner here.”
I nodded, standing straight and following her lead to the store. Harry seemed excited to go in, and I grew anxious at the idea of him buying himself a new phone. I would have to keep him distracted throughout the whole thing, not giving him any ideas that the new phone was for him, and not allowing him to purchase one himself.
Once we were inside the store we took to the new phones, looking at the 5s and pointing it out to Perrie. I had motioned towards the black one, knowing it was the one Harry had been talking about. She nodded, and she and Sophia went to the desk to purchase the phone, as Gemma went to the other side to look at other things.
“I think I’ll get his one, what do you think?” Harry asked picking up the black phone.
“No.” I shook my head. “Not today, it’s so busy.”
He looked up, “Where did Perrie go?”
Oh.
“She went to get a phone for her mom.” I motioned to the desk.
“Ah.” Harry nodded. “And why can’t I get one?”
“Because, you’ll be recognized and I’m almost sure those people over there are taking photos of us already.” I pointed to the window with a crowd behind it.
“You’re right.” He sighed. “I hate when that happens.”
“It’s alright.” I sympathetically smiled. “You should go see them.”
He looked out the window, and then back down at me. His thumb ran over my knuckles as he silently debated my suggestion. “Will you come with me?”
I nodded. “I’ll tell Perrie we’ll be outside.”
I released his hand, walking over to Perrie and Gemma. I took the money out from my purse, slipping it to Perrie as I told the two where we were going, and to meet us once they were finished. I thanked Perrie for doing this for me before I left to go back to Harry, and we took off to outside.
I wasn’t sure why they didn’t come into the store, as the door was only around the corner, but we went out anyway. Harry kept his hand in mine throughout the whole thing, refusing to release it even when I attempted to pull away. We took photos with some of the people, greeting them calmly as they did with us. I knew offering to come out here with Harry would make them happy, and that’s exactly why I decided to do so.
We stayed for ten minutes until Gemma, Perrie and Sophia came out. We took a few more photos before we took to the next few stores shopping for Harry’s family and the boys, until it was time for us to leave. Perrie had slipped the phone into one of the many bags I was carrying, allowing me to keep it hidden from Harry until tomorrow. We each held at least 6 bags, piling them onto our arms as we shuffled back to the center of the mall, finding Anne and Robin. Bags surrounded them as they sat on the small bench, making me chuckle.
Harry smiled as we neared the bench, standing before them. Anne looked extremely exhausted from her shopping binge, and Robin seemed extremely amused by it. We weren’t going to stay any longer, as we all had to go to the gathering within a few hours. Perrie and Sophia had already left; they were also going to the gathering. I wasn’t sure how many people were going, but I would assume it was a lot. Alyssa had confirmed to me that she was also going with Louis and Luna, and I think that was the only true reason I was so excited to go. I wanted nothing more than to see them again.
*
Harry’s family was settled in their rooms now that we had eaten dinner. The ultrasound photos were shoved into my night stand, and all the presents for Harry were hidden in Gemma’s room. We were all sprawled out around the house getting ready for the gathering. We had all been working on our appearance since this was an extremely fancy gathering, sadly. Gemma and I were in my bedroom’s bathroom, already in our gowns, and now working on our make-up.
Gemma and I both helped each other with our hair, Mine being in an up do and hers staying down in light waves. We locked the door as we got ready, not wanting to be disturbed- but Gemma had insisted on bringing Ruffles inside with us, Placing him into the bathtub as we worked on ourselves.
Once we were finished we stood and observed each other, checking if we looked alright. Gemma looked extremely gorgeous, her pastel hair falling just below her shoulder, her silver dress going below the knee in length. She looked stunning. My dress had some print on it, reaching to the floor as the back was a low dip down. It had a soft texture and gold patterns along the top, a teal colour stretching throughout it as a background. I loved this dress, and Gemma seemed to like it too.
I took Ruffles out of the tub and opened the door, grabbing my bag from the dresser and walking down the stairs. Voices echoed from the kitchen as Gemma and I’s heels clicked on the wood. I assumed they were waiting for us, seeing as they were ready far before we were. Once we hit the bottom I placed Ruffles back down, straightening out my dress before we walked into the kitchen. I awkwardly waved as I made my way to the cabinet, taking out a glass and filling it with water. They complimented Gemma on her dress, admiring it before they turned to me. I looked back at them as the glass was brought up to my lips, slowly drinking it before placing it back onto the counter.
“You look beautiful.” Harry complimented as he eyed me.
“You really do, you both look stunning in those dresses!” Anne added.
“Thank you.” I smiled.
Harry pulled up his sleeve, looking at the watch on his wrist. “I think it’s time we go.”
Everyone agreed and we all grouped out of the kitchen, Harry and I following behind. He pulled me to the side before we left the kitchen, holding me to the wall as he peered down at me through his lashes.
“You look so good.” He softly complimented. “I’m going to have to keep a tight grip on you tonight, so no one steals you.” He winks.
I laughed, “You might have to.”
“Are you two ever going to leave this house?” Robin asked, popping his head through the door.
I laughed again as I nudged Harry off, walking to the closet and putting on my coat. Harry’s family had already left, knowing where the house was and everything, they promised to meet us there. As Harry and I went out the front door, it was just starting to snow.
“Make sure the alarm is on, Harry.”
“It is, love.”
I nodded, taking his hand in mine as we walked down the steps to the car. We hurried into the warm confines, putting the heat on blast as we began to drive off. We held hands again as he drove to the house. He explained it was Simon Cowell’s home (unrealistic but hey fan FICTION hi) and that he had always thrown a gathering for close clients and their families. I was told not to worry, no one there was a complete stranger to me. Exceptions were apparently made at these gatherings, some celebrities and fashion designers, who were in no way linked to Simon, other than in friendship, were attending too. I wasn’t sure if what I was feeling was nerves or excitement.
We drove on for about an hour before reaching the large country home, cars lining up the long driveway. I looked over at Harry as he pulled in, he seemed unfazed by the house I would assume he’s seem many times before. Harry drove up and parked along the edge. The house bordered a forest, a small wooden fence lining the sides; large gates at the front were pulled open. I sat and looked around before we got out, the house was huge- probably the biggest I’ve ever seen, it was extravagant. The sky was dark; all the lights on the inside of the house were on, shining onto the pavement beneath it. Small lights hid in bushes along the front of the house, two large ones stood beside the door. The front door was a full fog glass, designs stretched from the middle to the top. I gaped at the house, still not believing my own eyes.
“Ready to go?” Harry’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I kept my eyes on the house, “Yes.”
I took a breath before stepping out of the car. Harry met me on my side, placing his hand on my back as he led me to the front. I had assumed Harry’s family was already inside as their car was parked in front of ours. My heels clicked against the cold pavement as we went to the door, Harry walking up to ring the bell. He took a step back afterwards, now standing at my side, his hand placed on my back again. He rubbed along my spine as we waited for the door to be opened, his actions were in attempt to calm me- he did it every time I was nervous. The door was quickly opened by a man I didn’t recognize. He opened the door, standing to the side to allow Harry and I to walk in. Harry thanked the man as he closed the door behind us.
“Your coats, please.” He man’s British accent quietly spoke, as he held out his arm.
I turned to Harry who was already shrugging off his coat, following closely behind with taking mine off as well. We handed them off to the man, who then showed us to the main room. It was huge, reminding me of a ball room that would only be seen in Disney movies. It held a mural between the golden arches, angels with small wings lying in clouds surrounded it, shining softly down onto the tiles. The walls were light beige, windows high as they were covered by flowing curtains. Harry’s hand went to my back again, leading me beside him as we walked towards the boys. It wasn’t very crowded, I assumed we were early. I kept my sights down as we walked across the floor, everyone now watching us.
Once we reached the group my eyes landed on Louis who stood across from me, and then directly beside him to Alyssa, who held Luna. She was dressed in a long white dress, diamonds shining along the top, lessening as it got further down the dress. I almost cried when I saw her, for some reason our short period of separation affected me in an emotional way. I walked to her and took her into my arms, being careful of the baby in her arms; I wrapped my arms around her neck. Her free hand went to my back, pulling me into her as close as she could. I pulled away, stepping back to look at her.
“I missed you.” I sighed.
She nodded, smiling slightly. “I missed you so much.”
I pouted, looking down at Luna in her arms. She had grown since I saw her last, her eyes now a different colour than a few weeks ago.
“Want to hold her?” Alyssa questioned. “I need to use the bathroom anyways.” She whispered.
I laughed, lightly scooping the baby out of her arms, “Go.” I motioned out of the room.
She nodded, whispering something to Louis before turning and heading out of the room. I looked up at the group, feeling a bit uncomfortable as they were all staring at me. It had occurred to me that I didn’t greet any of them except Alyssa, not feeling pressured a forced a smile.
“Hi guys.” I raised my free hand. “Sorry I just- I got excited.”
Niall laughed, “It’s all good.”
Niall and Louis were the only two here, as the other two were apparently running late. The room was starting to fill, and I looked around out of curiosity. I didn’t see anyone I really knew, apart from Harry’s family and the boys; there was really no one else. I decided I would stay here for the night; I wouldn’t wander too far from Harry.
“Luna you’re so big!” Harry cheered as he returned from behind me. “Let me hold her, Amelia.”
I nodded, placing her into his arms. “Don’t move.” I pressed as I dug my phone out of my bag, snapping a quick photo of the two. It had to be the cutest thing I had ever seen, Harry and children.
I watched as Alyssa made her way back into the room, coming directly back to our small group. She came to me to give me a proper hug, tightly holding me in her embrace as she mumbled some random things into my ear. We pulled away and talked while the boys were talking with each other. I felt so happy to be with Alyssa again, even though we had only been away for a short time it felt like it was so much longer. She told me about everything that had happened, and that she even travelled to Canada with Louis and Luna a few days ago to see her family. I told her all about rehearsals and the upcoming tour, and she promised she would come and see me every chance she got.
A man with filled wine glasses came to the group, holding his tray out for any takers. Everyone reached in to get a glass except me. With only one glass left I was expected to take it, but politely rejected.
“What was that Amelia? Why didn’t you take it, you love wine.” Alyssa said, moving her arms around as she spoke.
“You know I don’t drink.” I lowly answered, shaking my head.
She scoffed, “You? Not drinking?” She laughed. “Since when?”
“Since forever.”
“Do I need to remind you of after grad? Or are you familiar with that night.”
I face palmed, causing the group to laugh. “Shhh.”
The conversation was dropped at that point, everyone turning to each other, sipping wine as they conversed about something I wasn’t paying attention to. I was observing my surroundings; I liked to be very aware of what was around me- who was around me. I saw some people I recognized; some even very famous people lined the room in little groups like ours.
More and more people were flooding in, all separating to their different groups. The other two boys and their girlfriends arrived, quickly greeting me before stealing Luna away from Harry. I kept to myself mostly, at times I would listen to their conversations, but I could never keep up with them. I redirected my vision to my nails, looking at the new colour that was currently shining on them. Harry had often told me of how he didn’t really like nail polish, saying that it was too much work for me to deal with. I always laughed when he brought it up, only because of how strongly he felt about the topic. “Why do you insist on getting them painted?” he would question. “They look nice when they’re bare.”
A tap on my shoulder brought me back to reality. I turned around to face the tall man behind me, Richard. He was the man who designed my outfit for my performance, and I had befriended him through the process of our designing.
“Rich!” I exclaimed as I hugged him. “Where have you been? I’ve been meaning to talk to you.” He kissed both of my cheeks.
He laughed. “I’ve been in France, Amelia.” He released me. “What have you been meaning to talk about?”
I shrugged. “I was thinking you could design a few more things with me, for my tour.”
“Really?” His eyes widened. “You want me to co-design?”
I nodded, “Of course! Why wouldn’t I?”
“This is such an honor; I will definitely design for you.”
“There is a meeting after New Year, we actually only have 2 weeks to get things designed and made.”
His eyes widened again.
“I know, I said that too.” I joked. “But I will certainly get in touch with you within the next few days; we should get a head start.”
He nodded, “Sounds lovely.” He kissed my cheek again. “I’ll see you then love; I abandoned my lady to rush over to see you.”
“Tell her I say hello.” I pushed him away. “Have a nice night, Rich.”
“You too, Amelia.” He smiles, giving me a final wave before walking away.
I turned back to the group, they didn’t seem to take notice of anything that had just happened, and Harry was absent now. I was unsure of where he went, but took it upon myself to look around. I looked around the room, in search for his head of curls. He wasn’t in the room, as it wasn’t too crowded it wouldn’t be too hard to pin point him in here.
I waited a while longer, quietly talking with Sophia before I saw Harry join the group again. I excused myself from the conversation, walking towards Harry. His hands were free from the wine glass he had been holding, his hands now shoved into his pockets. I went to him and wrapped my arms around him back, placing my cheek on his chest. His hands went to my bare back, holding me to him as he placed a kiss to the top of my head.
“You alright, babe?” He whispered into my ear.
I nodded, yawning as I did so.
I felt Harry’s left arm come off my back, I would assume so he could check the time, “It’s nearly 11:00.” He informed me. “We’ll leave in a half hour, forty-five minutes?”
“That’s fine.” I agreed. “I just want to rip this dress off, it’s so itchy.”
I heard him chuckle, “You can rip it off soon, I promise.”
I leaned back, still holding him to me, but now looking at him. He pouts down at me, and I mimicked his expression. My hands went to his face, thumbs smoothing over his eyebrows before placing a quick kiss on his lips. “You look pretty tonight.”
“Amelia, I’m not supposed to look pretty.” He shook his head.
“You look so pretty.” My voice squeaked.
“Shh.” He hushed, placing a soft kiss on my lips.
I had remained quiet throughout the rest of our time at the gathering. Simon had walked around the room, greeting everyone quickly before disappearing again. I kept to myself again, listening to the conversation but never really engaging. I was thinking about tomorrow, I was thinking about how I was going to tell Harry the news- how he would react. I was trying to be as positive as I could, know that Harry would never lash out like Louis had, or at least hoping he wouldn’t.
We said our good byes, and soon enough Harry, his family and I were on our way back home. I took my shoes off once I got inside, bringing my legs up as I did up my seat belt. Harry turned the heat on, and then began to silently drive home. I rested my head on the head rest of the seat, nearly falling asleep but stopping myself from doing so.
“Did you have fun?” I asked with my voice raspy.
Harry nodded, “I had a good time. Why were you so quiet, love?”
“I’m just not feeling too well.” I shrugged. “I want to go to bed and cuddle and sleep.”
“Sounds like a good idea to me.” He agreed. “You looked beautiful tonight.”
“You did too.” I smile. “I like when you do your hair that way.” My hand went to his hair, running my fingers through it.
Harry laughed. “Thank you, thank you.”
We finally got home. All of us arrived at the same time, and we all rushed inside. We wasted no time in going upstairs to our rooms, saying good night to each other before departing. Once we got back into our bedroom, Harry closed the door behind him. I raced to the closet and took off my dress, hanging it back up in its spot before putting on a loose shirt and fixing my hair into a pony tail.
I dragged my feet to the bed, sliding inside the warm thick sheets and pulling them up and around me. Harry came out of the bathroom, and into his side of the bed, loosening the sheets around me and pulling my back to his front.
I felt like this was the time for everything to be revealed to him, I wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight if he didn’t know, even if he was to be told the next morning. I kept my back to him as he placed his chin on my shoulder. I took his hand in mine.
“Harry.” I whispered, clearly nervous.
He hummed in response.
“I need to tell you something, and I can’t wait any longer. I need you to promise me you won’t be mad, okay?”
“I promise I won’t be mad.” He agreed. “Tell me.”
“When I was getting sick and I went to the doctors they ran some tests, and-,” I paused, wiggling in his grasp to face him. “They did a pregnancy test.”
He nodded his head, listening to me completely as his eyes stared into mine.
I broke eye contact. “And they said that I’m pregnant, so today your mum and I went to my ultrasound appointment. And it’s true.”
“You’re joking.” He shook his head.
“I’m not.” I pressed. “I’m scared; tell me how you feel about this, please.”
He took in a deep breath. “It will be a lot of work, and it will be difficult.” He lifts my chin so we make eye contact. “But I’m happy, and I’m ready to go through this with you.”
“You’re not mad?”
“Why would I be?”
“It’s just that-,”
“I’m not Louis.” He breathed. “I love you; I love you so fucking much always know that. And now we can go through this with each other, and we can learn through it and grow with it. I would never leave you; remember how we talked about this?” He rubs my shoulder. “We both want this.”
I nodded, sighing as he placed a soft kiss to my head. “I want to see the ultrasound photos.”
“Okay.”
I move out of his grasp, opening my bed side table and pulling out the envelope. I sit up as I hand it to Harry, watching him intently as he opens it up, pulling out the photos. I see his eyes light up as he sits up with me, placing it down between us, still looking at it. I point to the small circle,
“That’s it, right there.”
“Right there.” He repeats with a smile on his face.
I knew from that very moment that we were ready; we were going to get through this with each other. The look on his face said it all, my heart fluttered, relief washing over me.
“I love you.” He whispers as he looks back up at me. “And you.” His hand is placed on my flat- for now- stomach. “So much.”
