It had now been three weeks since I last saw Harry. Although we kept in contact as frequently as our busy schedules would allow, it seemed as though our socialization had grown more distant and dry. This, however, didn’t lead me to forget his birthday. Seeing as it was nearly two weeks ago, a party was not set for the day. We had Harry convinced that there wasn’t going to be a party- but little did he know, I had been planning it from across the world. Seeing as the boys were going to be in Brazil on their only days off, the party was to be set there. His immediate family and my mother were the only family members who were going to attend. The list of friends I had invited could wrap around my entire body two times- it was that long.
But seeing as I was also on tour, planning the party, and having Harry convinced I wasn’t able to visit him at all, were very hard tasks to maintain. With the help of my manager, the boys and Harry’s family, things were set up and planned to mere perfection.
It was now twenty days after Harry’s 22nd birthday, and I was set on a plane from California to Brazil to meet the boys. The plane held me for ten hours before I was able to set foot in Brazil for the first time in my life. It was hot, very sunny and humid. The three o’clock hour had the sun beaming down on me as I walked from the plane into the airport. Accompanied by Alyssa and Luna, we were led to a lounging area where we were to wait for the boys.
Having the baby join us on tour, and carrying her around on different flights and buses was a hard responsibility. Irritation was one of the many feelings we had at times, but the good outweighed the bad in this case. Watching her grow and develop was something I had the pleasure of witnessing, all while we travelled the world together as a small family of girls.
Alyssa and I quietly talked as Luna sat asleep in her carrier, being the first time she had slept in ten hours. The area we were stationed in was very quiet; no more than ten people were in the same area. Glass doors showed us the people who were boarding their flights, and the people who were just arriving. When the boys arrived, a worker was to be sent to get us.
I was anxious for that moment.
I had single handedly embarrassed myself when I decided to get extremely intoxicated, and as Harry called me, even in my most vulnerable state, I decided it would be a good idea to answer him. I had involuntarily told him how drunk I was, and I was reminded of this the morning after my most intense night in ages. I had to admit, after I pulled that stunt, I got an earful from Harry the next day. He had told me it was irresponsible of me to do such things to myself- even though he was only aware of the alcohol I consumed. I was almost positive if he knew of the drugs I had taken; he would be less than pleased with me.
After he had yelled at me, fathering me back to a sober state, it was his turn to get an earful from me. My statements of me being a grown woman and having complete control over my own actions led him to a silent state, and with no response I hung up. I remembered it vividly, and to this day he has been extremely hesitant around me.
I wasn’t quite sure how he would react when he saw me here today, but I hoped he would look past my stream of curse words and bold statements.
I lady in a blue dress, reaching down to about her knees, scurried over to Alyssa and I, smiling as she approached.
“The boys have arrived!” She smiled; her accent was the most flattering thing I had ever heard.
I smiled and nodded at her, “Thank you.”
Alyssa and I gathered our stuff, following her out to the crowded main floor. Luna was held tightly, still sound asleep as we entered an environment full of echoing screams. The lady kept us well behind the boys, following behind body guards and tour assistants. I could barely see the mop of curls over all the heads in front of me, but I was anxious to find them.
I jumped up as I followed behind, searching for him as I attempted to keep a steady pace. Finding Niall and Liam, the other three boys were completely out of my sight. I heard Harry’s laugh, and I knew he was close.
As we entered another space, away from the hectic fans, there was seemingly no other place for me to hide. Although we weren’t the only people in the room, I could be easily spotted if I didn’t move correctly.
“Here,” I placed my suitcase beside Alyssa. “Watch this for two seconds.”
She nodded, laughing as she waved me off. I walked off behind the group of boys, making eye contact with Zayn and smiling at him, granted a smile in return. Harry’s back was turned to me, his plaid shirt handing off his long torso as his fingers hooked behind him. He seemed to be wearing the same jeans as always, which I had expected to see.
I fixed my hair quickly, pulling at the sleeves of my sweater as I went behind him. I made eye contact with Niall, widening my eyes at him before I tapped Harry’s shoulder.
“Do you know where the nearest exit is?” I asked, making my voice a higher pitch than usual. “I’m a bit lost.”
After I had asked, he turned around, ready to answer the question. He let out a low ‘um-m’ before he made eye contact with me. His eyes widened, blinking as his mouth fell slightly open. I couldn’t help but smile at his reaction, laughing as I cowered away.
He didn’t speak any words as he came to me, looping his arms underneath mine and lifting me up into a hug. My arms wrapped around his neck, placing my face in the crook as he spun around slowly. The group of boys began to clap, resulting in everyone to join in and clap for us.
“You always do this to me, Amelia.” He sighed as I pulled back to look at him.
My toes touched the floor as my lips went to his, sharing our first kiss in weeks. It seemed as though I spent ages thinking about his lips on mine, and when they finally met after so long, it felt so right to me.
“Haven’t you missed me?” I asked, placing my hands on either side of his face.
He nodded, breaking into a smirk. “I’ve been missing you so much.”
I smiled, kissing him once more before releasing myself from him. We walked to the group of boys who were now joined by Alyssa and Luna. I went to each boy, hugging them as we said our hellos as usual. I was still uneasy about Louis, but I refused to shun him any longer, so he was treated just as the others were.
They began talking about their flight, complaining about how they had flown from England to Brazil and how tired they were. I couldn’t blame them. I was on a plane for ten hours and I was already so tired I could fall asleep standing up. I leaned my head on Harry’s arm, taking in the fresh scent of his shirt. It smelled just like him and I missed that smell more than anything.
Harry whispered questions to me, wanting to catch up as soon as possible. I giggled, whispering back as I looked up at him. His eyes were tired, but sparkling. I kissed his clothed shoulder before I rested my forehead on it.
Nearly a half hour later, a car was sent for us, and we were finally out of the airport. The seats in the car were in rows of two, it was more of a bus than a car. Harry and I sat together, obviously, as we talked together, exchanging kisses and laughs as we did so. His ear buds were shared between us, playing songs from his phone by ‘The 1975’ and Ed Sheeran. I nearly dozed off on Harry’s shoulder before his soft voice rattled my mind.
“How long are you here for?”
I wiped my eyes, turning to look directly at him. “Three days.”
He sighed, leaning over to kiss my jaw. “I hate this,” He started. “Being away from you for weeks at a time is so frustrating. I hate it, I hate it.”
I agreed, “I know.” I rubbed his knee. “It’ll all be over soon, trust me.”
He nodded, kissing my lips before shifting around and placing his head on my lap. He looked up at me, flashing a tired smile as he shut his eyes slightly. I smiled back, stroking his cheek before combing through his hair. I thought about it every time I was with him, which in most cases was very often, but he was truly the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I wasn’t just saying it because he was my fiancé, but I was saying it because it was true. He seemed to have everything a man could want and more, everything a female could want in a man and more. And luckily, he was mine.
I looked away from Harry, quickly turning my gaze to the passing scenery. It was so beautiful here, and I was surprised I had never visited before. This was a first for me, but Harry had been here many times before, so I felt secure being here with him.
“When we get to the hotel,” Harry stopped to clear his throat. “Can we just sleep?”
I looked down at him, raising my eyebrow.
“What?” He asked as smile broke onto his lips. “You’re aware that I was on a plane for nearly fourteen hours, aren’t you?”
I pouted, “I know.”
“We can tour around tomorrow, my love. I promise.”
I nodded my head, leaning down and pecking his lips quickly. Harry remained on my lap for the remainder of our time on the bus, falling asleep through the process. I refrained from moving as he rested on me, not wanting to wake him after the flight had. He seemed to be more tired than me, and they had just barely started touring. Being one month deep with touring, I was really beginning to feel the pressure and stress Harry had told me about. Thankfully, my tour was only lasting three months, being cut short upon request. I was still visiting all the same places, but I would perform every single night, being granted a handful of off days. It was better this way; six months would be far too long for me.
We stayed on the bus for an hour, and when we finally got off I was more than desperate to get inside. It was humid beyond belief here, and it was something I wasn’t too familiar with. After running from the bus, leaving everyone behind, and getting inside, I was very confused. I didn’t really know where to go or where our floor was, so I waited by the glass doors for them. They glared at me as they entered, making me laugh as I followed them. They all crowded to the front desk, having their keys handed to them and then individually leaving. Harry and I were the second ones to leave the group, scurrying up to our floor. The halls were cold, and I felt the need to stick my body back outside to warm up.
Harry wasted no time in opening the door. Once he got it open, his bags were dropped by the wall and he was off to the bed. He didn’t take his boots off as he fell onto the white sheets. I took time to close the door, locking it behind me as I moved our bags further into the room.
As soon as I had everything organized I went to Harry who seemed to already be asleep. Being cautious of the sheets I slipped the boots off his feet, placing them down beside the bed. Harry groaned, his face being pressed into the pillow made the sound more muffled.
“Amelia.” He said, running his hand over the duvet in search of me.
I climbed on, crossing my legs as I sat beside him. His hand slipped onto my legs, falling limp as it rested there.
“Cuddle me.” Harry said, moving his body to the side so I could slip into his arms.
I didn’t hesitate as I gravitated towards his body. Placing my front to his, his arms help me securely. He lowly talked to me, still giving me hell for what I had chosen to do a few weeks ago. I lightly said, “Shut up, Harry.” He laughed, kissing my head before he forced words to pass his tired lips, “Sleep.” Is what he said, and when no more words were exchanged, that’s what we did.
*
I woke suddenly, no true reason behind it. Harry and I were in different positions, his arm now only being draped across my back. I found my phone lying beside my head, and I took it into my hand. With one click of a button the time was shown, it was now five o’clock which meant I had to go down to where Harry’s birthday reception was. I texted Gemma, seeing as she was the one who planned the most with me, and asked her if she wanted to go down quickly. Harry’s family had gotten to Brazil a day prior, so she probably already knew her way there.
Texting me back almost immediately, I found myself sneaking around to get into a different pair of clothes and then heading out the door. Harry, being the heavy sleeper that he is, didn’t take notice. I met Gemma down in the lobby, exchanging hugs and hellos before we quickly set out to the street. This place was only down the road, so it was possible for us to get there on foot, but felt impossible with all the heat.
Ever since the incident, Harry’s family has been extremely nice to me. They always have been, but now it seemed as though they never wanted me upset again. It was a kind act, don’t get me wrong, but I was stronger than they knew. I knew that I wasn’t completely over it, but I was over it enough to carry on with my life, and see things differently.
“How was your flight over here?” Gemma asked as her pale hair blew in the slight breeze.
I shrugged, “It was boring. I hear your flight was fourteen hours!”
She laughed, nodding her head. “Imagine that, it was so horrid on that plane.”
I pouted at her, resulting in a slap on the shoulder. We talked our whole way there. Once we entered the cold building, we were hit with bright lights. ‘Happy Birthday Harry’ hung on a banner above us, lights shone down onto it. The open floor had a straight path going to the bar, chairs scattered around the sides at tables. It was dim, the floor was black and the walls were a cherry red. His cake sat center stage as it was propped up on a table, surrounded by arrangements of fruit and sweets.
People still worked to set things up all around us. The chandelier was sparkling above the empty floor, twinkling as it spun slowly. It was perfect.
“This has really gone a long way.” Gemma inspected the couch beside us. “It was completely empty yesterday.”
My eyes widened as I glanced around once more, “Wow.”
Gemma told me that she gave them a list of everything that was wanted, and that it was already in place and ready for tonight. We spoke with the manager, making sure everything would be ready for seven, and she assured us it would all be done and ready before then.
Gemma and I left not long after that, feeling it was necessary for me to get back to the room quickly. Harry had probably woken up by now, but my phone was left in the hotel room. If he was awake he probably thought I had been kidnapped.
We ran back, slicing and bee lining through crowds until we were safe in the elevator. She wished me luck, saying, “If he’s mad, have fun getting him to the party.” I glared at her as we exited, going our separate ways as we hurried back.
The room door was tall and brown, seemed intimidating as I neared it. With the room key in hand, I slipped it into the slot and quietly opened the door. As I pushed it open my eyes darted to Harry, who was still sound asleep on the bed. I exhaled, feeling happy he didn’t wake up and get suspicious of my whereabouts.
I quietly maneuvered my way over our bags, walking directly into the bathroom. It didn’t take me long to get into the shower and then get back out. By this time, I was sat in the bathroom in my robe, applying make-up as Harry knocked at the door.
“I need to shower.” He complained.
I groaned, unlocking the door and allowing him in. He walked in slowly, closing the door behind him as he watched me with a smirk on his face. I looked at him through the mirror, I asked him what he was looking at, and he just shrugged.
“Why are you getting so dressed up?”
I looked at the time on my phone, “We’re going out for dinner.”
He raised an eyebrow, “Are we?”
I nodded my head, smiling at him lightly as he stood still. “What?”
“Since when are we going out?”
“Since… I made reservations. Please get ready, Harry.”
He came in behind me, kissing my neck and then my lips. I hurried him on as he stripped down, and got into the shower. He talked to me while he did so, telling me about how hungry he way. He said that he missed me, and then followed up by peaking at my through the curtains. He made me blush as he did this. His smile was so wide and his hair flopped down onto his head as the curls were weighed down by the water.
“Harry, hurry up.”
“I love you.” He said as he pulled the curtains closed again.
I smiled, “I love you, but you’re annoying me.”
Eventually, Harry got out of the shower and we both got dressed. I was constantly texting, making sure everyone was already there. Zayn had told me all the boys were they, Harry’s family, my mother and all their friends. He said he was positive everyone was already there.
I was nervous for this. I wasn’t sure how Harry would react to this, but I hoped he would approve of my efforts and be happy with everything. It took a lot of time and planning, as well as a big chuck of money- but that wasn’t an issue. I just hoped that all of my planning would pay off by tonight.
“Who do you keep texting?” Harry looked over my shoulder.
I quickly exited out of the messages with Zayn, spinning quickly and holding his neck.
“I love you.” I said.
He sighed, his minty breath fanning over my face. “I love you, I’m so tired.”
I hushed him, “Don’t be a downer. Let’s go.”
I kissed him again before taking his hand in mine and leading him out. My heels made me rise closer to his height, and the dress on my body make me feel extremely worthy of Harry. For the first time in a while I felt like I had to be seen with him, I had to have other people know how I cared for him. It had been rumored that I didn’t care about him, that I was in it for his money and that’s why I was always so far from him.
The magazines forgot to mention how many times I cried myself to sleep because of his uncontrollable absence.
“Amelia, why are you so quiet?” Harry rubbed my hand as we exited the elevator. “Is something wrong?”
I shook my head, smiling up at him. “I’m fine, stop worrying.” I leaned against him. “The car is here, let’s get going.”
He silently complied, walking at the same pace beside me. He allowed me into the car before him, as always, and then sat beside me. I watched the driver take the long way around, as directed, and then pull up at the modern looking club where Harry’s guests were waiting inside.
“They serve food here?”
I nodded my head, telling him that I checked beforehand, and that, he should stop questioning me. He smiled down at me, shutting the car door before thanking the driver for taking us here. Harry seemed almost oblivious as to what was happening. He stared out the window the whole way here. He didn’t take notice of my clammy palms, or maybe he did but he didn’t want to make me feel bad.
Harry, being the way he is, insisted on opening the door for me before we entered places. Tonight I didn’t say a word, allowing him to open the door. As I walked in all the lights were out. I dragged Harry in beside me.
“Oh.”
“Amelia I swear to God-,”
“Surprise!”
The lights flashed on as everyone shouted. Harry’s mouth fell slightly open before he glared at me. I smiled at him, hugging his side as he was completely taken aback. He smiled at the group, taking my hand into his somewhat tight grasp, and we walked over to them. Greeting each and every one, Harry was sure to thank every single person for showing up. All his friends and family had flown to Brazil for this occasion, and he seemed extremely pleased about it.
Not one person was missed as Harry said his thank-yous. He told the boys he hated them for not telling him, he knew they were a part of it. I laughed from beside him which seemed to catch his attention enough to earn me another glare.
“You,” Harry started. “You got me good, my love.”
My lips curved into a closed smile, apologizing for an unknown reason as Harry continued to look.
“Thank you.” He said as he leaned down to my jaw, placing a soft kiss on the bone. “You’re wonderful, I love you.”
“I love you.” I promised as he held me by my hips. “Happy birthday.”
He smirked before leaning down to me, connecting our lips to share a kiss I hadn’t received in so long. And after that I knew, all the money and effort I put into this had paid off completely. It was going to be a good night.
