"Hey!" I slammed my fist into the metal bars as hard as I could. Pain raced up the bone in my hand and I hugged it to my chest. Hastily, I inspected the cell for some kind of escape, but it was no use.

I collapsed onto a small cot placed in the cell, and pressed my hand hazarded to my chest. I tried to resist my urge to cry. I didn't understand how I had gotten into this situation. I was just trying to get out of here, but than the energy... What was that?

I mean I know Madden has powers and such... but me? How...? This makes no sense, I wasn't born with powers. Wait, Kai mentioned that the powers have a consciousness and choose their person, but when did I come in contact with any magic?

Then, the pieces all fit together. I remembered back in the castle when the dying woman grabbed my arm, the power must've gone into me. That means she was the life magician... and now I am... and I'm killing two birds with one stone. Destroy life magic and the heir to the throne.

My body sagged and all my thoughts raced. One negative thought after the next, and the panic slowly building the more there was silence.

"I... have some good for you."

I glanced up at the bars and saw a scrawny young guy, about Kai's age, with muddy brown hair, and crystal blue eyes. He was very handsome, but looked malnourished.

He gave me a warm smile and slid the tray in a small slot. The boy was curious about me, and kept looking at me funny. I raised my brow in confusion.

"Anything else?" I asked trying to be polite, but I was really creeped out.

He blushed a little and turned away, "sorry, that was weird. I just never thought I would meet the life magician."

"Neither did I?" I muttered under my breath.

"Huh?"

"Nothing, nothing," I waved him off and picked up the the metallic tray with distasteful looking food. I got a little chocked up from the odor coming from the food. The guy chuckled loudly.

"Heh, heh, yeah. I should've warned ya'. Don't worry, it tastes better than it looks."

I cautiously scooped up a bit of the food and nibbled on it. He was right, it wasn't that bad. "What's your name? I'm Scarlett."

"Yuhan, my name is Yuhan."

These meetings went on for 3 days. We began to spend more and more time talking, laughing, waiting for Madden to finally end it all.

"So you're the water magician."

He nodded, but his expression seemed a bit forlorn. "Yeah, Madden keeps me and the fire magician here. I'm treated like a slave, while the other one is his lackey. She does whatever he says, and is a trained dog, but I see the way she looks when she gets slapped around a bit. The poor thing..."

Suddenly, an idea sparked in my head, "what if tried to escape together," I blurted. Yuhan spun around to look back at me. His eyes filled with judgement and fear.

"Wait... before you criticize it, hear me out. If we all leave this place together, we could beat him. We all got powers, he couldn't take on all three of us."

"You don't know how to use your powers!" He retorted with such animosity. Yuhan was scared of what might happen, but we will never know if we don't try.

"But even two magicians could take Madden down."

He sighed reluctantly, "it would take a lot of convincing..."

"Thank you, just try your best."

He have a little halfhearted smile, then left me all alone....

I'm panting, and my lungs are on fire. After Yuhan convinced Amber to join us, that night we escaped. Amber melted the bars, and we all made a run for it.

Yuhan was holding my hand, urging me to keep going, while Amber followed behind. We were close to the pond near the wall. Yuhan can get us over it with his magic. We are free, and I did it without Kai's help.

All of a sudden, Amber grabbed my arm, with a smirk in her face, and sent fire up my arm. I screamed and tried to pry her off, but I couldn't. By the time Yuhan ripped her from my arm. There black scorch marks in my skin.

"Have fun with my Black Fire. You won't last long," she spoke with such disgust, I wanted to cry. She put some kind if toxic magic into me.

Yuhan ran over to me, and lifted me into his arms. "Don't listen to her, lets just get out of here and figure all of this out."

Yuhan kept going, holding me in his arms. He walked across the lake, lifted us over the wall, and as we went up, I spotted the satisfied smile on Amber's lips. She knew this was the last time we were going to see each other.

We met Kai outside the walls in Mayee, where we reconnected, but Kai had gotten injured trying to storm the place. I also got a lot closer to Yuhan, getting to more about him, and his mother. Then, the burn started getting worse and we had to find the Healer. Scarletta truly died from that burn that night... and Scatlett was born.
