Chapter 18
The voices of my friends echoed around me.
Saying, "You better save her you witch!" and, "if she dies, I swear to god..."
I never thought of death, but maybe it's a good thing. Nobody wants to think of the prospect of their own demise. I never pictured it as this though, I always thought my past would eventually catch up to me, and Madden would get the opportunity to kill me once and for all.
I'm not afraid of death, more so I'm afraid of the future of my loved ones. I wonder how their lives will proceed without me in it. I don't think there's coming out of this, going back to living, but there's also that small glimmer of hope to grab onto, but whatever happens is out of my control now.
What will become of my kingdom though... Madden will let it collapse in on itself. I can't allow that to happen. Please Kai, save me from this, I'm not ready to die until my kingdom is free from Madden's wrath. His demons consume all the souls of the living, and he will transform my kingdom into the a demon's domain.
Suddenly, I saw a bright white light. Panic rushed into me, and I clawed away from it. Stop! Please!
But, it wasn't a tunnel or anything else you might picture death as, but a the white goddess from my dreams.
"You can see me." her voice sweet as nectar. The same pair of black, desolate eyes gazed upon me.
"You!" I was angry at her, but at the same time her presence was soothing. But, I refused to let myself be lulled into the Siren's seductive presence.
"I know you may be angry, but it was your destiny to find Yuhan at the palace and come into contact with Amber."
My blood boiled at her words, "oh, so it was also 'destiny' making me get this Black Flame thing, and making me pass out from kissing Kai."
She seemed very calm and collected, her expression showed no emotions. "I will admit, the Black Flame was not my intention, however it has led you deep into your core, which is where I dwell, and Kai is distraction to your goal, our goal, but if you still wish I do not intercept then I will obey to your commands. Just be aware that if the decision comes between him and your destiny, I will take all means necessary to push forth your destiny."
I stared her down, staring deep into those soulless eyes of hers, "if that's how it must be, then so be it."
----------------------------------------------
I awoke in someone's arms, I couldn't see who. Everything was so blurry and my head felt like a boulder. I could feel their chest bouncing up and down from crying. I tried to scrape together the strength to speak, but I couldn't.
I was falling back asleep, but I wasn't sure if this was my final goodbye. I mean, when I talked to the goddess, she didn't seem that concerned with my health, so I must be okay...eventually.
My eyelids were closing up again, and who knows for how long, I struggled to keep them open, try to tell them I was alive...
----------------------------------------------
My eyelids lifted again, and this time everything was much clearer than earlier. I have no idea oh long I've been asleep though. I've made my entire group worry, and have to deal with that annoying little runt, Amber. She's practically my brother's pet, but I have no clue why she came out here. Last time I saw her was at the outer palace wall where she burned me, but I got away and she stayed. Maybe Madden sent her after me to finish the job, or perhaps she wanted to finish the job and asked for permission. Nevertheless, it failed.
I turned over my head, carefully placed on a pillow, and analyzed my arm. The Black Flame was gone, and a normal looking burn stood in it's place. I guess the goddess drained the poisonous part, but now I got this ugly scar on me. It could be worse though.
I pressed my hands on either side of my body and pushed myself up. I scanned around the room, looking for someone. I spotted Kai passed out beside a wall. His face was all swollen from crying, that dork.
His chest rose and fell, giving me the warm feeling of life. Maybe it's the life magic that gets pleasure from seeing breathing, or maybe I'm just strange.
I flipped over onto all fours and crawled over to Kai, laying down in his lap. I snuggled up against his warm stomach, resting my head on his legs. I felt Kai shift a little bit, but then fall back into his deep sleep. Soon, I found myself dozing off once again, lulled by the breathing.
----------------------------------------------
"Oh my god!" Gaia screamed out. I jolted from my sleep and looked around.
"What?!? What's wrong."
She gazed straight at me and started laughing tears of joy, "you're alive, thank god!" Gaia ran over to me and toppled me over Kai's legs.
He groaned, slowly waking from his sleep. Gaia dismissed it and continued hugging me, further pressing my face into her breasts.
"That girl Amber kept saying you wouldn't make the night, but you did! Kai isn't that great? Scarlett, he was so worried about you, he held you for hours until we made him give you up so that he could get some sleep."
I pulled a from Gaia a bit and peered over at Kai, who's cheeks were slightly red, and his face was turned, showing me his profile.
"I missed you too Gaia, but I have to go speak with Amber, is she still here?"
"Yeah, she's in the outside, probably bragging to Yuhan how she killed you."
"Good, because we are going to have a little chat."
