Chapter 17

I smoothed out my shirt, to try and look as presentable as possible. I was a new person now, but not a barbarian. The guards escorted me through the familiar hallways of my childhood. It made me heartbroken to see everything again. I kept reminding myself that this was my past, Scarlett is the future, but the reminiscent scenery tugged at my heart strings like a harp.

We finally reached the sturdy red oak door, leading to the throne room. The guards pushed it open for me, and I stepped inside holding myself tall and strong. The feeling of confidence was soon stomped on, like a dying flame.

Madden sat up the once golden throne, That had rotted away to a black, decorated with heads on spikes along the crest of the throne. I nearly vomited on the floor, or balled my eyes out, but I managed to control myself.

"Scarletta... it has been too long."

"It's Scarlett now."

He contemplated the new name, then looked back at me with a crooked smile. "You've changed, sister. You're much harder now. And I like you're outfit, suits you're new personality."

"I'm not going to let you kill me Madden," I pulled out a dagger I had tucked in my boot.

He gave me an amused grin, " and I have no intentions on killing you. Now that I am king, you are no longer in my way. You may have changed, but you are still the sweet, innocent little girl you once were. Feeble and weak."

" I am not," I spoke with no hesitation in my voice. I truly have changed, and no one can tell me otherwise.

"Oh, Scarlett, you are precious aren't you,"

Chills sputtered down my spine. His voice echoed through my body, like bats in a hollow cave. I hated him, I hated my own blood.

He got up from his throne and walked up to me. I stared him in those cold, soulless eyes, that were once filled with hope and life.

"You are only a princess, what do you plan to do?"

This angered me. I became enraged beyond belief, and I reacted recklessly. I ripped a smoke bomb from my bag and smashed it against the floor. Black smoke stretched across the room, as I made my escape for the door. I could hear curses of Madden and guards from all directions.

I slammed into the doors, and they bursted open. I kept running, but I was more ready than the last time. I was stronger, more agile. I'm Scarlett, and I'm as tough as nails.

Suddenly, a demon jumped in front of my path. I pulled my dagger and held it out in front of me. I attempted to back away carefully, but I turned to check my way was clear, and another demon was there, alongside Madden.

"Little sister, it was a good try, but I'm not idiot. I knew exactly where you were going, it was pretty obvious," Madden got closer to me. I tried to back up away, but the demon behind me began growling at me, foam coming from the malicious beast's mouth.

Madden grabbed my arm to drag me away, but suddenly a power erupted from my core, blasting pain into Madden. He screamed in pain, but refused to let go. I had no control over this power, but the intensity was increasing.

Then, he sent power back into me, so powerful I collapsed to the floor. Madden refused to let go of my arm, sending powerful waves through my body.

"Guards, grab her and bring to the dungeon! I'm going to kill the new life magician myself," Madden stared at me with blood-thirsty eyes, as I struggled to keep consciousness.
