Filius Meeting Dwarves

(Leaving the Shire) Astrid's POV

Bilbo and I ride Filius pony through the Shire. As we near the end, I have him stop. "What is it?" Bilbo asks me. I look back at him with a smile.

"One last time, for old times sack?" I ask him. He smiles nodding his head and we dismount the pony. "Go to the border, we'll meet you there" I tell him and he nickers nodding his head. He left us. Bilbo and I smile at each other. Then take off running through the last street of the Shire.

"Oh Miss Took, Mr Baggins! Where are you going?" someone asks.

"Can't talk" I shout.

"We're already late" Bilbo adds.

"For what?" Farmer Maggot asks.

"We're going on an adventure!" we shout. We run through the corn field. Once we reach the end, we stop breathing heavily. We look at each other and laugh. We find Filius' pony and remount it. Before continuing on our journey.

(Stone Trolls and Cave)

We've traveled many days, cutting cross country and stay off the roads. At least we've had better weather then when we had left sixty years ago. No rain and no trouble so far. Each night we'd add to the book. We even found the three trolls, still stone. We carved our names on a rock beside them. We went to their cave, to see plenty of treasure still. So took a few coins and jewels. Before continuing on our journey.

(Hidden Valley)

When we reached the hidden valley, we sent the pony to Rivendell with a note. Saying we'd be there in the morning. As we had decided to spend the night in the tunnel that lead to Rivendell. After star gazing at the clear sky. Reminiscing about the past. Theorizing about what Frodo and Filius were doing now. Along with our old friends. Bilbo has started to age without the ring and is slowing down.

(Rivendell)

When we entered the court yard, we were greeted by Elrond and his daughter. Who he introduced us too. She took me somewhere to clean up, while Elrond did the same with Bilbo. Before we all meet in another court yard for breakfast. Where Elrond assured us Filius' pony was being well taken cared of.

He then told us we could stay as long as we wished. Bilbo said it'd be a great place to finish the book. So we agreed to stay until then. Arwen offered to teach me some elvish while Bilbo worked on the book. I happily accepted the offer.

(Completed Book)

The book was completed, though it took longer then expected. Bilbo no longer felt up to continuing our journey. We had talk about crossing the Misty Mountains. Going to see Beorn, Radaghast. Visiting Mirkwood, Lake Town and Erebor. But Bilbo just didn't have the strength to continue, even on Filius' pony. He encouraged me to go on, but I refused to leave without him.

(Present)

After Aragorn and I arrived in Rivendell with the other four. I lead them straight to the house of healing to check on Frodo. Who was recovering well, thanks to Elrond. Who I thanked a lot. Anyway today the representatives from each culture in Middle Earth would be arriving. Filius stayed with Frodo, who is still unconscious. While I went to wait for those arriving.

Men arrived first, but I ignored them. Then the Mirkwood elves arrived lead by Legolas. "My god, is that really you Legolas?!" I ask shocked.

"Miss Astrid" he says pleasantly surprised. He dismounts his horse and approaches me. "My you have changed" he states.

"So have you, somehow you look younger. You must tell me your secret" I tell him and he chuckles. "How is your father and Mirkwood?" I ask him curious.

"Father is well, Mirkwood is doing better since you last were there. No more spiders, but dark times are ahead" he states. I nod my head and I notice the dwarf company arriving. "I'll leave you to greet your other old friend" he tells me before leading his company away.

"Gloin, is that really you?" I asked shocked.

"Astrid!" he exclaims and runs over. Pulling me into a big hug. "What are you doing here lass?" he asks me.

"Visiting with Bilbo, oh he is going to be so happy you are here. How are the others?" I ask him.

"Haven't heard from Balin or Bofur for a while. But the others are alright, miss you and Bilbo" he states. "Gimli, get over here!" he calls a dwarf over. That looks just like a younger version of him.

"Hi dad, who's this?" the dwarf asks confused.

"Astrid my son Gimli, Gimli this is Astrid Took. The Shire's protector" Gloin says.

"Retired, my son took over" I tell him. He looks at me confused.

"Mum!" Filius shouts as he joins us. "Frodo is awake, asking for you" he states.

"Thank you Filius" I say. "I'd like you to meet my old friend Gloin and his son Gimli" I state.

"He's..." Gloin says looking at Filius in shock.

"Yes" I say. "I know I have a lot of explaining to do and it was wrong not to tell you all. But I just wanted him safe" I state. Gloin kneels before Filius.

"My king" he says.

"Please don't call me that" Filius says uncomfortably. "I know who my father was and how important I am to dwarves. But I know only what my mother knows of that world. I am no king, just warrior" he states. "Mum, Frodo" he reminds me.

"You're right, we shouldn't keep your cousin waiting" I state. "Gloin, I know you both have an important meeting tomorrow. But how about we get together for dinner and I can explain everything" I suggest.

"Sounds good, as long as you're cooking" he tells me.

"Of course, just like when we meet" I state. "Except here and not the Shire" I add. He chuckles. "I think your son is confused" I state and he looks at Gimli.

"I'll took to him, see you both tonight?" he asks looking a Filius. I nod my head and he left with the dwarves. Who were all whispering to themselves looking at Filius in awe. Filius looked uncomfortable. I placed a comforting hand on his arm and we went to see Frodo.
