Don't You Dare

A/N: Hello there(: This is the oneshot that I had written for Laney a little over a year ago...I think it's pretty decent...and it will sure bring back memories for her. I know she could use a smile and I remembered it from my Quizilla account..

I love you, Lanes(:

“Where have you been?” I asked Draco as he sat down beside me in the Great Hall for dinner, “I haven’t seen you all day!”

“I’ll tell you later,” he whispered as he put his arm around my neck.

“How about now?” I demanded, “All you ever do is disappear and keep things from me!”

“I said later,” he said more fiercely.

“You better be telling the truth this time,” I said as I angrily bit a piece of bread off my roll.

“Are you two okay?” Courtney said as she sat down across from me with her boyfriend Blaise.

Courtney has been my best friend since the fourth year, when all of my so called friends left me all alone at the dance, aka Pansy Parkinson. She left me because she said that I wasn’t cool enough to be her friend because Draco and I were in a fight. She said that you don’t pick a fight with the most popular guy.

“Just fine,” Draco said through clinched teeth.

“Are you sure?” Blaise asked this time.

“I’m sure,” he said as he lowered his eyes.

Draco’s eyes were looking more and more tired everyday with black bags beneath. There was something up with him, and I was going to get to the bottom of this. We’ve been dating for almost two years, and he’s never kept anything from me before. It had me really worried.

“Lanes?” Courtney called for me and broke my train of thought.

“Yes?” I said, taking my eyes off Draco and looking at her.

“I said are you excited for this summer? It’s going to be awesome, right?”

“Sure it will be, as long as we all stick together,” I said as I glanced at Draco.

“I highly doubt that,” he mumbled under his breath.

“What was that?” Blaise asked Draco.

“Nothing, mate.”

After dinner, Courtney and Blaise went ahead of us. I slowed down on purpose in order to talk to Draco, who grabbed my hand. He acted so tough and rough, but he was actually loving and gentle. I’ve always loved that about him.

I pulled him into an empty classroom and locked that door at the first chance I got. He smirked at me and pushed me up against the wall and kissed me. He hadn’t kissed me like that in a long time, and I missed it so much, so I let it go on for a while. Maybe too long. I smile at it though as I’m dressing.

“I actually pulled you in here for a different reason, but that was a nice surprise,” I put my arms around his neck and bit my lip as I looked up into his eyes.

“And what reason would that be?” he smirked.

“Why have you been disappearing lately?” I asked right away.

“Lanes, do we have to do this now?” he said as he pulled away from me.

“Yes because I have no idea if I’m going to see you in the morning before you run off,” I pause and the room fills with silence, “Is it him?”

He looks at me with his eyes filled with tears, “I don’t know if I can do it, Lanes.”

“You’re strong. You can do anything you put your mind to and more,” I said as I pulled him into a hug.

“Voldemort is more powerful than I can ever hope to be, Lanes. I can’t just tell him that I pass this mission along to the next willing deatheater, like I tell myself I can do every day.”

“No, you can’t just tell him,” I agreed, “but you can ask Dumbledore for help. He can protect you and your family from Voldemort. You know that right?”

He shook his head in my shoulder, “He can’t,” he whispered.

“I’m sure he can,” I continued, “Voldemort is afraid of Dumbledore.”

“Lanes,” he pulled away from me, “It’s just not that simple.”

“I know that you’re not doing this so called mission,” I said to his turned back, “I’ll make sure you don’t. It’s changing you. I have no idea what could be so bad that its changing you, but you can’t continue to do this anymore.”

“Look, Laney,” he said as he turned towards me and I knew it instantly.

“Don’t you dare,” I said, getting angry, “Don’t you dare make that mistake. I’m the only one here for you.”

“I know that, but if I don’t, you’ll die,” he said as more tears came down his cheeks, and I wiped them away with my thumbs.

“We can work our way around this. Dumbledore can help us!” I said as I looked up into his eyes.

“No, Lanes,” he said as he grabbed my hands that were on his face.

“I love you,” I whispered as I put my forehead against his.

“As I love you,” he said as I felt his tears run down my forehead and down my face, “I’ll come back for you after the war, I promise.”

“And when does this war begin? So I know how much more time I have with you before it starts?”

“Tomorrow is when my mission goes into effect.”

I pulled him into a kiss and then looked into his eyes, “We might as well make the best of the night we have here.”

“Don’t worry. We will,” he smirked and kissed me again.

Seven years later....

“Welcome to RV Pet Emporium,” I said as I walked into the store from the back room, “We have a special on Owl Pellets today, 25% off each bag.”

“I know,” Courtney starts to laugh, “I’m the one who came up with that idea,” she smirked at me as she handed me a bag that contained my lunch.

“Thanks,” I said as I opened the bag.

After the war, Courtney and I revived the old Owl Emporium at Diagon Alley and opened it as a magical pet store. We sold everything that was able to be domesticated from owls to toads. We always had an interest for Care of Magical Creatures when we were at Hogwarts. Gee, I hadn’t thought about Hogwarts in a long time. It was the last place that I saw Draco. After the war, he just disappeared or so it seemed. I waited for him to come back every day.

“Excuse me?” A customer had walked in and broke my train of thought, “What special are you running today?”

I looked up from my paperwork and lunch, to look up and see Pansy Parkinson. I admit that I wasn’t that thrilled, but I have been able to tolerate her every once in a while.

“25% off each bag of Owl Pellets,” I answered.

“Nice,” she said as she took a quick look and then made her way back to the desk, where I was at, “That’s not the real reason I came here.”

I looked up at her with an annoyed expression, “Why did you come here then?”

“It’s the last showing of the Malfoy’s house today before it’s actually sold,” she said as I raised my eyebrows up at her.

“It’s been seven years. The house has just been sitting up there empty, not being used. It’s about time someone bought it,” I said as I closed the paperwork in a binder and put it in a drawer.

“I know you went up there from time to time,” Pansy accused me.

“So? Draco was, is, the love of my life. Of course I went up there, hoping that one day he would just be home.”

“I did too.”

The bell on the door ran as Blaise walked in with a bouquet of flowers, “Where’s my beautiful wife?” he asked me as I nodded towards the back room.

Yes, Courtney and Blaise were still together. They had a rough patch after the thing with Draco happened in the sixth year because they were too worried about me and Draco that they hardly paid any attention to their own relationship. They eventually settle things, as I knew they would the whole time. Courtney and Blaise got married five years after the war was over. They were also having a baby in four months.

“You better go up there for one last look before they lock the doors at eight tonight,” Pansy said as she left the shop.

I wanted to go up there, but I was afraid that I was going to be disappointed yet again when I didn’t find Draco there like I was every other time. I missed him so much. I just hoped he was alright.

“Hey,” Courtney said to me as she come out of the back room, “What do you want to do tonight? Blaise has to work. I was thinking going out to a club. We haven’t done that before.”

“You’re pregnant,” I point out.

“Yeah, but I don’t have to drink, right?” she smirked at me.

“I was thinking I would do something by myself tonight anyway,” I hear myself say as I throw my trash from my lunch away.

“And what would that be?” she raised one eyebrow up at me.

“The Malfoy Manor is going to be locked up tonight at eight before the sell it tomorrow,” I explained.

“And you want to go up there to look at it one last time?” she knew exactly what I was going to say.

“Yes.”

“Alright, you go. I’ll stay home and eat ice cream as I watch some muggle movies,” she smirked, “but you should come over and watch them with me afterwards, okay?”

“Okay,” I said as we started to lock up the shop.

A few hours later, I’m walking up the drive to the Manor. It looks the same as it always did, but it looks more and more empty each year. When I open the door, I take it all in. I walk up the steps to Draco’s old room, where I touch everything. I open up just about every drawer, where he’s still got clothes inside. He’s still got toothpaste on the bathroom sink from where he never washed it out after brushing. The bed still smelled like him, even though it faded with time. I then close the door behind me and continue through the rest of the house. I stop in the music room and stand next to the piano. I used to play and write songs. I used to sing them for Draco. I lifted up the covering on the keys and touched a couple of the ivory fingers. I eventually sit down and begin to play.

When I looked up from playing, I saw Draco standing in the door way. I wiped my tears away that I had started crying and looked back up. He was still there, wiping away tears of his own. I got up and started walking over to him, but he turned around and walked away from me.

“Don’t you dare, Draco Malfoy,” I yelled after him, “Don’t you dare walk away from me!”

Draco just kept walking, so I followed him. When I finally caught up with him, I grabbed his arm. He turned and looked me in the eyes. He was still crying, but so was I.

“Draco,” I whispered.

“Lanes,” he whispered.

“You promised you’d come back for me. Why the wait?”

He shook himself out of my grip and walked out the door and into the rain. I ran after him once more.

“Draco!” I yelled as the rain poured down on me as I caught him by the arm again.

“Laney,” he said as he turned around, “Let go of me. I have to lock up before I sell the Manor tomorrow.”

“You’re the one selling the house? But you love the Manor,” I couldn’t believe it. He loved it so much when we were together, and I doubt that changed.

“Too many memories of Mum and Dad,” he paused as he looked up at me, “of you.”

“I still have those memories too, Draco,” I moved my hand down his arm and grabbed his hand instead, “Everything reminds me of them, not just this house.”

“At least it numbs the pain alittle,” he said as he let his fingers enclose around my hand, “but you being here brought it all back.”

“So,” I decided to ask the question again, “Why the wait? Why didn’t you come back for me like you promised?”

He grabbed my other hand and his fingers intertwined with mine as he looked deeper into my eyes, “We can’t be together,” was all he said as he dropped my hands and headed back up to the Manor to lock the door.

That was when I noticed that I was shivering from the cold of the rain. I watched him as he locked the door and tried to figure out what to say to that. I mean, why is that the reason that he didn’t come back for me? Why can’t we be together? It doesn’t make any sense. We belong together. I know it.

“Draco!” I yelled again as I ran up to the Manor and we met half way, “Why can’t we be together?”

“Lanes,” he said with pain in his eyes, “I am a traitor to everyone because I followed Voldemort. How can you want t be with someone that is shunned by society? I don’t want to sully your good name.”

“My good name? This is what this is about?” I couldn’t believe it! Draco thought that we couldn’t be together because of society. That is such poppycock, “I love you. Society doesn’t change the way I feel.”

“I love you too, but I can’t be with you,” Draco looked down at his feet.

“Draco, I don’t give a damn about what other people think! I was raised better than that.”

He looked back up at me, “But I’m a traitor.”

“No, you’re not,” I said as I reached out for him, “If people saw what you were going through, they would agree with me. You couldn’t finish the mission that Voldemort gave you. You couldn’t kill Dumbledore because you have such a big and caring heart.”

He grabbed my hands once more but didn’t smile like I did, “But other people can’t see that.”

“Because you won’t show them. You won’t prove them wrong! You have to get back out there and show them that you are not going to be settled by a reputation that others have given you. Only you know your true reputation.”

“And, apparently, you do too,” he smirked.

I smiled up at him. The Draco that I fell in love with was starting to show. He let go of my hands and turned to the Manor.

“You know what? I can’t sell this place. It’s too special to me,” he then turned to me, “to us.”

I nodded as he wrapped his arms around me, “You’re too special to me too.”

“Have you actually waited all these seven years for me?” he asked me as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

I smirked at him, “Well, no one can compare to you.”

He then kissed me. My heart melted like it did every time we kissed when we were together, and I loved every moment of it. I had waited seven years for this moment, and I was going to make the most of it.

“What do you say to going back inside?” I said as he raised an eyebrow up at me.

“I can’t,” he said as he didn’t let go of me like I thought he was going to, “I have to go to France.”

It was my turn to raise an eyebrow up at him, “Why do you have to go to France?” I had lost my smile.

“To get of this bloody contract with my idiot superintendent,” he smirked down at me, “so I can move back here and be with the one I love.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” I said as I kissed him this time.

“Stay right here,” he said when we finished the kiss, “I’ll be right back.”

He then ran up to the Manor and left me to stand alone. I had realized that it had stopped raining, but instead, the sun was out and warming my skin. I smiled to myself as Draco was running back to me from the Manor. When he reached me, he dropped down on one knee. My grin got even bigger.

“Laney Roberts?” he smirked.

“Yes, Draco?” I asked with tears brimming my eyes again.

“Will you honor me by becoming my wife?” he then pulled a ring out of his pocket.

Twelve Years Later...

I got up quietly, managing not to wake Draco. I wanted to surprise him with a nice breakfast before he had to get up. I opened the door to Draco’s old bedroom to check on Scorpious, mine and Draco’s son. He was going to Hogwarts this year. We were so proud of him. When I peeked into his room, I found him with his trunk open and him fully dressed.

“Mum,” he said when he saw me, “I’m not sure I have everything packed.”

I walked over to his trunk and looked through it, “You seem to have everything you need here,” I told him and ruffled his blonde hair.

“Mum, don’t!” he said, trying to flatten his hair.

“I’m going to go start breakfast. Do you want to help?” I asked him as I walked to the doorway and looked back at him.

“No. I’m going to figure out what I’m missing.”

I smiled at him, “Alright, I’ll call when it’s ready.”

I walked down the hallway and stopped at a door when it opened to reveal my darling little girl, Twyla. I named her after my mum, who died in the battle against Bellatrix during the Great War. She walked up to me with her hands raised so I could pick her up, which I did.

“Good morning, mummy,” she said as she kissed me on the cheek.

“Morning,” I said as I kissed her back and walked downstairs to the kitchen, where I sat her down in the countertop and started breakfast.

When I was setting the table, Draco came down carrying our youngest, Jyson, who was nine months old.

“Look who’s awake,” Draco announced as he put Jyson in his chair and came over and kissed me.

My heart melted once more. I had everything I ever dreamed of. A wonderful husband, three beautiful children, and a best friend that would do anything for me. Courtney was still my best friend. We would be meeting her at the platform.

“Morning,” I told him after our kiss was broken.

“What smells so good?” Draco teased as he sat down.

“Find out,” I joked as I called for Scorpious.

After we were done eating, I had everyone put there dishes in the sink and finish getting ready. We had Scorpious to get on a train! I was so excited for him. Hogwarts is really something I wouldn’t have missed out on for the world, especially since that’s where I met Draco.

“Laney!” I heard Courtney’s voice holler for me from across the platform.

“Hey!” I yelled back as we approached her and her family, “Is it Catrin’s first year?” I asked her.

“Yeah,” she said, patting a young girl with light brown hair on top of the head, which I knew was Catrin.

“Hey, Draco,” said a rather tall, rough looking boy we all knew was Courtney’s and Blaise’s oldest, Landon, “Long time, no see,” he said.

“Yeah, too long. How have you been?” Draco said taking his hand.

“Jyson is getting so big!” Courtney squealed as she stole my baby from me.

“Handsome, just like his father too,” Draco said proudly.

“You would only think that your good looking,” Blaise said playfully as he patted Draco on the back.

“So, Landon is starting his fifth year?” I asked Courtney as we let Blaise, Landon, and Draco talk.

“Yeah, the years really go by all too fast,” she said looking down at my baby, “It just seems like it was yesterday that I was holding Landon like I’m holding Jyson right now.”

“Tell me about it,” I said as I took Jyson back, “Scorpious is starting his first year.”

“The first time is that hardest,” Courtney said as the whistle blew, “Catrin, you have so much fun!” she said as she pulled her into a tight hug.

“Don’t worry, mum, I will,” Catrin giggled as she tried to get her mother off of her.

“Scorpious,” I said, looking down at my son.

“You’re not going to embarrass me like Catrin’s mum are you?” he asked me.

“Of course not,” I said, kissing him on the cheek.

“You’re such a liar,” he smirked up at me.

“I’m going to miss you so much,” I told him as Jyson cooed.

“I’m going to miss you too, mum,” he pulled me into a hug.

I cried as I watched my oldest climb up onto the train. Draco put his arm around me as we watched the train pull away. He kissed me on the cheek.

“He’ll be back. He’s not leaving forever,” he told me as he wiped away my tears.

“I know it,” I beamed at him.
