Chapter Five

Okay.

What, in the world, was this chick doing? Standing in the middle of the forest and near dark?

She continued to stare at me with unblinking purple eyes, which looked as me as though she knew all my dirty little secrets.

In all honesty, I didn't have many. My deepest secret was probably that I still wore my That's So Raven t shirt on sick days, and well, if that didn't make me rebellious, I didn't know what would.

"It's a nice shirt, I agree." The girl spoke up in the silence, startling me further. What shirt?

"You're That's So Raven shirt. I had a similar one, too." She smiled, as if offering a welcome. I continued to stand frozen, my mind blank yet racing at the same time.

Had I spoken out loud?

You're in my form, idiot, my wolf grumbled, and I rolled my eyes, trying to push her back a little.

"Why don't you change and let me explain myself?" She suggested, and I shook my head, my eyes narrowing on her slim figure.

How do you know about my That's So Raven shirt?

The girl shrugged, then started walking in slowly around the edge of the trees. "Well, you thought about it, so I told you that I thought it was nice. Simple enough." She spun to look at me, frowning slightly. "Really? Have the eyes not given it away? I'm a spirit wolf."

Oh. Mind reading. Huh.

I slunk behind one of the trees and changed, then cursed at myself for not bringing any spare clothes along. It was cold, too, goosebumps breaking out on my skin already.

"Here," The girl suddenly appeared from no where, holding out a shirt. I yelped, stumbling back and landing on my butt, mortified that she'd snuck up on me, and well, because I was naked.

"What the hell?!" I cried, and she shrugged, dropping the shirt next to me on the ground. I yanked it on quickly, noting that it was a guys shirt, because it fell to mid thigh and for that I was grateful.

"You needed a shirt, didn't you?"

"I was naked!"

"I've seen it all before!" She said, waving a hand dismissively as I tried to figure out what the fuck was going on. Too many strange things had happened this week, and it was only Wednesday.

Wednesday's had always been my least favourite day, and the bastard must have taken offence, because this topped everything that had already happened.

Firstly, my mate rejected me. Secondly, he was living in my house, and going to my school. Thirdly, my wolf wasn't afraid to challenge him, a future alpha. And now, fourthly, a strange blonde with purple freaking eyes just startled me into the next century by reading my mind and catching me naked behind a tree, whilst remaining completely unfazed and friendly.

This. Was. Not. My. Week.

"It really isn't, is it? And sorry to hear about Kade, it must suck-"

"Can you please stop reading my mind?" I hissed, scrambling into a standing position. Kade's name brought back some of the pain, but my confusion was overriding that at the moment.

"Sorry," she grinned sheepishly. "I can't. There's no off switch." Shrugging again, the girl turned and started walking away, then plopped right down in the middle of the small clearing, facing me.

"Well?" She asked, patting the space in front of her. "Are you going to sit or what?"

Depends. Are you going to kill me?

"No, why would I do that?"

"Okay stranger, this whole situation is creeping me out, so please just tell me what in the heck is going on-"

"My name is Violet," she cut in, patting the space in front of her again. I hesitated, before sighing and walking slowly towards her. She didn't look murderous, or intimidating in any way. So once I reached the spot she had been patting, I sat carefully, watching her every move. My wolf was tensed, ready for anything in case she turned out to be dangerous.

"Violet. It's fitting." I muttered, and she sent me a small smile, then started to talk again.

"Okay, my old name isn't Violet, but that's what I'm known as now." Her face took on a slightly broken expression, before she clapped her hand together suddenly, making me jump on the spot and scowl.

"Sorry," she quirked a grin. "Anyway, you must be wondering what I'm doing here?"

"That's a good place to start," I muttered, still watching her intently for any signs of danger. This petite, blonde girl didn't look like she could hurt a moth, but it was best to be safe.

"I'm a spirit wolf, like I said before, but with a little more power then others. I can read your mind, right? I can read anyone's mind. I can't turn it off, either, so people either were able to put up blocks, or just not care, in my...pack. Anyway, that's not all I can do."

I leaned forward slightly, waiting. "What else then?"

"I can sometimes see others paths. For instance, I can tell who's mate is who sometimes, before they even meet."

I sat back, stunned. "No way."

Violet nodded solemly, face still nuetral. Then I remembered, she'd hesitated on the word pack. Frowning, I decided to ask her.

"So why aren't you with your pack? You're not part of mine, I would know you otherwise."

Violet winced, as if reluctant to tell me. "Well...I'm not really part of a pack, per sey..."

"You're a rogue?" My wolf went on high alert, growling slightly at the intruder. She was on our land, after all, and no matter what, you always protected pack over everything else.

"I'm not a rogue!" Violet said quickly, confusing me even more. "I'm just not a pack member."

"So, you're a rogue?"

"No!"

"Okay, rogue." I replied sarcastically, standing up. "As much fun as this has been, I need to get back to my pack."

"Why, so you can hurt yourself more by sitting by and watching another girl get with your mate?"

Ouch. This girl could pack a verbal punch.

"Right, well as much as I love hearing your version of my life in a sentence, I really have to get back-"

"Do you want to know why I'm here?"

I stilled, somehow sensing what ever she said next was going to be important.

"I came to give you a message. About you." Violet said, now completely serious. Her face cleared out from any other emotion, and her eyes somehow opened, like the purple was dividing and something else was rising in her eyes.

"You're about to find out what you really are, and it's going to come with dire consequences. So be ready, because from this step on, whatever you do will affect everyone around you."

Okay, what?

"Are you seriously going to start speaking in riddles?" I cried, throwing my hands up. "I thought you were saying important-"

"I have to go. Someone's coming." Violet smiled like we've been friends for years, then said in a haunting, melodic tone, "See you soon."

Then I heard a cracking of twigs behind me. Spinning, I caught Max jogging out of the bush towards me, frowning.

"Katie! There you are!" He yelled, jogging closer. "Where the hell have you been?"

"I was-this girl, she..." I spun, realising Violet was truly gone. "There was someone here-she had purple eyes and-"

"Okay, whatever gibberish you're speaking, speak it on the way home. It's cold out here! And you're wearing a mans shirt." Max stated the last part simply, and I looked down, forgetting about it until now.

"Oh, so I am."

"Katie-"

"Let's just go back, I'll tell you everything when we're at the pack house." I sighed, starting to wonder if I'd actually lost my mind a little bit.

Violet's words rang in my eyes, her haunting tone filling me not only with a sense of foreboding, but realisation too.

Something was about to happen, and call it premonition, but I just knew.

And it all related back to my damn bloodline. I was getting really sick of it, right now.

Okaaaay! Not the best chapter, I'll admit, but this one needed to get written to get the story mooooving. And sorry there was no Kade, but next chapter there will be heaps of him and Katie, including a random guys shirt... ;)

So stay tuned!

P.S. Vote and comment to let me know what you think!
