Shiloh
*Shiloh pov*
"Shiloh, you are a demon."
I shook my head, refusing to accept the obvious.
"No....no that's not possible! I'm just a normal ghost with normal ghost powers. I am not a demon." I tried to defend my self, but it was useless. Both she and i knew i was no longer a normal ghost.
"Look, accept it or not, you're a demon. That means burning your body wont be enough. We'll have to do a it more to fully rid of you. It doesn't look like you've gone full demon, so i don't think we'll have to do very much more than a standard cleansing ritual. How many souls have you absorbed. Give me an exact measurement and names." She bent down and started to pick up some of the things she dropped when she fell asleep.
"Now?" I asked as I scrambled to put together a list. She looked up at me.
"No! Of course not! Right now I need to go home and eat." She straightened up and pushed up against me. "OK, i'm ready." I quickly reached down and grabbed the water case, then teleported us home.
We appeared in the kitchen and Sam hopped on the counter and opened a bag of trail mix, then slowly started to eat it. Jasper walked in.
"Hey! Anything interesting happen while you were out?" He asked casually, there was a secrete edge hidden in there. It almost sounded like jealously. I looked over at Sam.
"Nothing note worthy. Just your average every-day shop lifting." She tore into the water case and downed a bottle before going back to her trail mix. Jasper smiled.
"Cool. Anyway, you should rest up. Your assessment is tomorrow." Jasper leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. He looked down at his nails and seemed distracted by them.
"Yeah yeah i know, don't hassle me. I starving OK!" She grabbed a hand full of trail mix and poured it into her mouth. I stared a the bag. It's been forever since I've eaten. What does food even taste like? Sam looked up and we made eye contact. I quickly looked away.
"Anyway, I'll uh, try to remember where my body is." I turned and left Sam and Jasper alone.
*Sam pov*
I watched as Shiloh disappeared to some other part of the house. I sighed, then downed the rest of my trail mix and another bottle of water. Then i hopped off the counter and walked past Jasper towards my truck.
"OK, well, good night." I said as i passed. Jasper nodded and I headed out side and crawled into my truck. Hopefully tomorrow is not as weird as today was. I thought as i felt my mind slowly pull me into a relaxing state and i gave into exhaustion.
"Hey! Sam!" Something was poking me and i sat up and punched the source of the voice. Jasper fell back out of the truck and on to the ground, holding his face. "What was that for?" He stood up and brushed him self off. I looked out the windshield, the sun was just starting to rise. I looked back over at Jasper.
"You woke me up, and you were on top of me. Not a very good combination."I stretched and pushed past him out of the truck and walked into the house.
"Morning!" Shiloh called out as i passed him in the kitchen. I grabbed a large bag of Doritos from my pile and pulled it open.
"Hey." I replied as i started to eat my unhealthy breakfast. Jasper came into the kitchen and sat next to me.
"Ready for your assessment?" He asked casually. I nodded as i reached over and grabbed a water bottle.
"Yeah, when is that?" I asked as i started to chug the water bottle.
"Five minutes." I started choking on the water and doubled over. Jasper gasped and Shiloh screamed and ran over to me.
"FUCK SHE'S DYING!!" He yelled and Jasper stared hyperventilating. "WHAT DO I DO?!?! WE HAVE TO SAVE HER!!" I straightened up and started coughing the water out of my lungs.
"I'm.....not....dying....you....idiots." I choked out as I hacked up the rest of water from my lungs. I looked at the two "Men" as they started to calm down a bit. Shiloh was pacing and hugging himself while Jasper was taking large breaths of air. I rolled my eyes. "You two need to calm down." I leaned against the counter. "I'm not dying anytime soon so get over it." Jasper finally stopped breathing and hopped off the counter. Shiloh leaned against another counter and just stared at me.
"Sorry, it's just that, you have your whole life ahead of you. If you died now, then it would be all over. We don't want that." He grabbed my shoulders and bent down a bit so that he looked strait into my eyes. "Promise me that you won't die no matter what." He looked dead serious.
"I will do everything in my power to prevent my death. OK?" He nodded and let me go. I chugged the rest of my water and tossed the bottle onto the counter. "OK, lets go! Shiloh, don't burn the place down while were gone, got it?" Shiloh nodded. Jasper grabbed my arm. "Oh! Wait! I almost forgot!" I pulled my arm from his grasp, ran out to the truck, grabbed my rope and ran back. "OK, now i'm ready." Jasper rolled his eyes and we suddenly appeared in the bunker. He let go and started walking off. I let him get a few steps ahead of me before walking after and keeping a close eye on my surroundings.
We appeared in the same part of the bunker that we did yesterday. People and ghosts were running around in suits and ties. If i felt emotion i would have probably felt a bit embarrassed to be under dressed in my jeans and hoodie, but because i don't feel emotion, i didn't particularity care one way or the other on the subject. Jasper let me to a large doorway in the side of the wall and walked through it. I sighed and opened the door like a normal person and continued to follow him.
The dimly lit hallway was completely silent. The lack of sound put me on edge. I felt the hallway start to decline and found that Jasper was farther ahead of me then i originally thought. I didn't call out to him, for fear of breaking the silence. Something seemed very off about this place. I couldn't put my finger on it, but i felt like my presence in this area was, unwelcome, to say the least. I immediately ran possible scenarios in my head while studying Jasper from behind.
He was taking strides that seemed a bit too quick for his normal pace. His hands were stuffed into his pockets and he was hunched over a little bit. This is not like him. I glanced behind me to see the door we passed through was a small grey rectangle in the distance. I looked back in front of me and stared into Jasper's eyes. He had stopped and stared down at me. we kept solid eye contact. I studied his face. He seemed relaxed on the outside, yet uncharacteristically tense. His arms were crossed in a nonchalant manner, yet his fingers were gripping at his arms. He had a relaxed stance, yet his knees were locked. His face soft, yet his eyes were cold and calculating. Suddenly all the evidence came together, a bit too late.
I reached down for my rope right as his hand grabbed mine and yanked me off balance. I quickly corrected myself, but not quick enough. He grabbed my other hand and kicked my chin. I saw stars swimming in my vision only for a second before a crushing pain woke me up. I looked down at the blood seeping out from between his fingers. A wicked grin had set it's self on his lips and he opened his palms. sharp bones were protruding from my mangled skin and blood flowed like a river. I pulled my hands back and forced eye contact with him as he licked his lips and laughed. It was just small bursts of laughter at first, but then it changed to loud hysterical screams. He threw his head back. NOW! I brought my boot up and caught his chest, going clear through, causing him to disperse. I planted my back against the wall as i pulled my rope from my belt and wrapped it around my hand, ignoring the pain. He suddenly appeared again, this time invisible, as if it mattered. He stalked around me eyeing me like a predator would its prey. I gripped the rope and felt the blood flow faster. An idea came to mind. I used my left hand to roll up my sleeve on my right arm. Jasper stopped, confused, as i painted a rune on my arm in the blood that had spilled from both my hands. Nothing happened and Trevor smirked, reappearing.
"What's that? Magic? HA! I'm so scared right now. Ooh the Little girl is gonna hit me with magic! Scary! What next? Are you going to have me talk about my feelings? HA!" He smirked. "Why don't i show you what's real." He lunged forward, grabbed both my shoulders, and slammed me into the wall. Stars danced in my vision again and I felt the adrenaline rush start to wear off my hands started to hurt even more then previous and had to force my eyes to focus. Jasper was leaning against me keeping me on the wall. My ears were ringing. He stared saying something but i couldn't hear it over the annoying ringing. He leaned forward, pushing his cheek against mine, and whispered in my ear. "Why don't we see what happens when you die?" He lowered his head a bit and i felt him drag his tongue along my neck, from my color bone up to my ear, making me shiver with discomfort. He whispered in my ear again. "But first, why don't we have a little fun?" He laughed a bit. I growled and head butted him, causing him to lose him grip long enough for me to wrap the rope around his neck. He reached up, pulled it off, and looked me in the eye. "Well, now were going to have some real fun." I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"Tsk, tsk. You guys really need to get some facts strait. GOD this was so easy." I crossed my arms. "Really, i knew from the start. A neuro-transmitted nightmare, controlled by three operators." I slow clapped. "Did i pass or what? I have better things to do the believe the crap you threw over on me." Suddenly everything slowly became transparent and disappeared altogether.
I was in a large metal room, it appeared to be a, maby, twenty by twenty cube with a viewing window up in the top portion. I crossed my non-broken hands and glared up at the group of people behind the glass. The people inside appeared to be confused and were talking with each other. Suddenly they all stood up, turned around and went deeper into the room they were in. I grabbed my rope and felt the rope between my fingers. Suddenly Jasper appeared in front of me. I didn't flinch. He smiled and put a hand on my head.
"Congratulations, you passed." He let go of my head. "What happened? They wouldn't let me see." Jasper looked away as he said this. He's lying. So, he knows what the fake him did, eh? Well, i guess that's a bit sad. Poor guy probably thinks i'm afraid of him now. I flexed my non-broken fingers and shrugged nonchalantly.
"I fought a man. A ghost, actually. One i had met back when i was in Colorado. It was weird." I wrinkled my nose in distaste as i remembered the clingy ghost i had met a few years back. I shook my head. "Anyway, can you take me up there?" I pointed to the observation room. Jasper looked to where i was pointing and nodded. He held out his hand and i grabbed on, immediately we appeared in the small room. Three guys were huddled around a machine while the mysterious man i had met the day before was leaning up against the wall. He chuckled and sauntered over. I pushed my chin up a bit so that i could maintain eye contact.
"Well, i must ask, how did you see through our ruse? Was your enemy not strong enough? Or was he too weak? Come on, speak up." I squared my jaw and flicked my eyes down and back up. Something was different about this guy, he acted a bit differently when i last saw him but it isn't so radically different. More like a subtle difference. I made eye contact again.
"Ghosts can't phase through iron." He looked surprised for a second before smirking and letting out a faint chuckle.
"Very good." He reached into his pocket and pulled something out. He held out his hand and i carefully reached out to accept the item. He dropped a badge into my hand. "From now on, you and Jasper will be ranked level one ghost hunters. You will come tomorrow morning for your first briefing. That is all." He turned away and walked to the door, stopping in the door way. "Oh and Sam? You might want to watch your back because the net time something like that happens, you wont have us as a safety net." He left and the door closed soundlessly behind him.
