Chapter 5: Noodles And Games
"Alright, fellas!" Gilbert clanged a frying pan against another frying pan (much to Elizabeta's dismay) in order to get all of his housemates' attention (present company included, such as a certain female Hungarian) as he kicked a leg up on a wooden chair. "Today, we're going to celebrate my friend Antonio's asking Lovino out on a date!"
Elizabeta accidentally spit out her soda, her eyes sparkling. Everyone looked at her strangely and she waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, don't mind me. Do go on, Gilly."
"I thought I told you never to call me that..." Gilbert muttered and rolled his eyes. "Whatever. So as I said, my awesome friend Antonio finally asked out Lovino."
"Why is that a big deal?" Sakura raised a hand hesitantly.
Elizabeta, Mathias, Gilbert, and Alfred gasped.
"You mean you don't know?!" Elizabeta looked mortified.
"Oh, man, I thought Eduard told her already," Mathias said as he clicked his pen in his hand repeatedly, making an annoying sound.
"Well, it's because Antonio's been pursuing Lovino for a two years now," Alfred laughed as he explained. "And they only started dating currently."
"Oh," Sakura understood. "Well, that's sweet."
Elixabeta sighed happily as she hugged a pillow close to her chest. "Oh, isn't it? Love is such a beautiful thing!"
Gilbert opened his palms and gestured for Elizabeta to calm down. "Yes, yes, I know. We get it! Your inner Francis is coming out and we don't want to see that. Especially after that one incident with the Asians."
Elizabeta scoffed in her seat and folded her arms against her chest.
The Asians? Sakura thought. Oh no, don't tell me Li Xiao and Im Yong Soo LIVE in this neighborhood...
"Anyways!" Gilbert brought out his wallet and waved it in the air triumphantly. "Since I already got my paycheck from my part-time job, we're going to eat somewhere!"
Everyone except Sakura cheered. Sakura couldn't get why her housemates were so excited at the idea of eating somewhere. Where was the fun in that?
"But where are we gonna eat?" Elizabeta broke the short period of rejoicing.
"Feliciano's family's Italian restaurant?" Mathias offered hopefully.
"We've been there three times, Mathematics," Elizabeta rolled her eyes, earning a glare from the Dane. "Don't get me wrong! I adore their food, but it's getting quite old, don't you think?"
"Then how about Vikings?" Mathias suggested again.
Now it was Gilbert's turn to roll his eyes. "I don't have enough money for that, you unawesome Northerner."
Mathias pouted and remained quiet.
"Ooh, ooh, I know!" Alfred raised a hand in the air excitedly, his eyes twinkling like Elizabeta's. "How about we eat at a Japanese restaurant?"
Sakura suddenly perked up and pivoted her head sharply to look at Alfred. A Japanese restaurant? Hang on...was he doing this for her? It seemed unlikely, yet it also seemed obvious...gah! Make up your damn mind, Sakura!
"That might not be a bad idea," Mathias said as he rubbed his chin thoughtfully, still clicking the pen in his hand. Then he grinned. "I like that!"
"Dress up, gentleman! We're going out!" and with those words, Gilbert ran towards the stairs leading to the basement, his little chick Gilbird tailing along beside him.
.
"How about Shinjuku?" Gilbert looked at the sign in front, Sakura, Alfred, Elizabeta, Mathias, and surprisingly, Lukas too, standing behind him. Gilbird was perched on Gilbert's head like usual.
"This looks good," Elizabeta nodded as she grabbed the door knob. "Let's go!"
Upon entering the restaurant, a lady in a white polo shirt, faded jeans underneath an apron, and short brown hair tied up in a half-bun greeted them. "Irashaimase!" she said as she smiled, which made her look cute. Elizabeta's emerald eyes widened in surprise.
"Tamara? You work here?" she asked, and the Czechian girl was nodding happily.
"Part-time," Tamara said.
Elizabeta mouthed the word, Oh.
"Do you have a table for six?" Alfred asked, butting in to Elizabeta and Tamara's excuse of a meaningful conversation.
Tamara looked back worryingly at the seemingly full restaurant, immediately smiling at a big empty table at the left side of the restaurant. She then pointed a hand towards the far side of the restaurant towards the empty table. "Lucky for you six, there's one vacant seat right there," Tamara said. Her eyes suddenly clouded over as she inspected the group. "Wait, where's Bronislava? He should've come with you guys if you were eating here."
Sakura and the rest of the group mentally buried their faces in their palms. They forgot about Tamara's Slovakian boyfriend! Well, who knew they were going to eat here, at Shinjuku? They only picked this place on the spot after denying Tokyo Tokyo and Roku Ramen.
"Oh, um, sorry Tamara," Elizabeta shrugged sheepishly. "We weren't able to bring him."
"T-That's okay," the Czechian girl only said. She immediately forced a smile (which was hard for her) and pointed to the empty table. "I think you should just sit and eat. That perfectly empty table's gonna be wasted."
"Thanks, Mara," Elizabeta and the group walked towards the table where Tamara was pointing to and sat down: Gilbert became extremely annoyed when Elizabeta sat next to him. That's because Sakura chose to sit beside Gilbert, anywhere away from Alfred since she still felt uncomfortable being with him, but apparently Elizabeta thought the better of it and whistled innocently as she sat beside Gilbert, leaving Sakura with no choice but to sit beside Alfred. She silently quaked inside like that one time a few days ago when he danced with Alfred and hid under her blanket. Sakura watched Tamara kindly place menus on the table, a small notepad and pen in her hands, waiting to take their order.
"I'll just...get katsudon," Sakura squeaked.
"I'm sorry?" Tamara leaned in closer and slowly lowered the notepad she was holding to hear Sakura properly.
"I'll just get katsudon," Sakura repeated.
"Oh, and I'll have tempura!" Alfred said.
"Whatever Math's having, I'll take that too," Lukas suddenly spoke. Sakura turned his head to look at the Norwegian. Oh, right! She almost forgot that Lukas was there.
"So that's Beef Miso Ramen, honey?" Mathias grinned. "Okay, then!"
Tamara wrote down their orders. "Anything else?"
"I'll take the awesome Shoyu Ramen," Gilbert said, his little chick chirping in agreement.
"I'll take whatever Gil's taking," Elizabeta only said.
Tamara took note of Gilbert's order and threaded her pen swiftly through her hair just above her ear. "Is that all? Okay, then. Please expect your order in fifteen minutes." With those words, she promptly left their table and disappeared behind the kitchen, where Sakura could still hear her shouting orders to the chefs.
"So now we wait," Mathias said. "How about a game of Truth or Dare?"
"Ooh, ooh, the awesome me obviously goes first!" Gilbert said and Elizabeta rolled her green eyes in annoyance and slight amusement. He then turned to Lukas and his yellow chick Gilbird pointed a wing towards the silent Norwegian. "So, Lukas, truth or dare?"
"Dare," Lukas said monotonously.
"I dare you to balance a chopstick on the tip of your nose," Gilbert said. Sakura sighed at his statement. That was too simple a dare.
Lukas placed a side of a chopstick against the tip of his nose, balancing it perfectly then dropping it after five seconds. "There."
"I'll go next!" Elizabeta said and turned to Sakura. "This is for Honda. Truth or dare?"
Sakura silently gulped, expecting Elizabeta to give her something complicated for a dare that involved Alfred. Naturally she picked the wiser and safer (wise and safe...yeah right) choice of the two options. "Truth."
Elizabeta had that glint in her eye again as she looked at him. "Truth, huh? So Sakura, anyone you like around here?"
The warm atmosphere suddenly turned cold. All of Sakura's housemates were looking at her, intrigued at what she might answer. Then Elizabeta winked and it was all over.
"I do like someone..." Sakura began. "That person is kind of strange at times, to be honest...sort of weird and funny...I thought I would never fit in the moment I entered the house...but when I saw their eyes, I completely felt lost. It feels kinda stupid, you know...it's like, the moment you looked at them, you see that they are the one you've been looking for all your life without even realizing it."
Her housemates clapped (even Lukas, who looked impressed) and Elizabeta wiped a happy tear away.
"Oh, love!" She placed a hand on her chest and sighed dramatically. "It really is such a beautiful thing!"
"But, who is this "person" you're referring to, Sakura?" Alfred leaned in close curiously. Tamara chose that moment to walk right up to their table and place the food they ordered on top of it. The small group felt elated, with Mathias being the first to speak.
"Let's eat!"
