Chapter 34 : Allergic To Sesame
Erika had her hair fixed by a male stylist, Ren. While doing that, she could not help glancing at her ex as he was conversing in the distance with a staff about what he was suppose to do. However, she would look away quickly if Shay happened to turned to her.
"I saw that," the stylist said, while combing her hair.
"Huh?" Erika reacted, and got confuse. "Saw what?"
"You checking out Duke Shay."
"No, I'm not."
"Oh! Yeah? Why are you fifty shades of blushing?" Ren teased, pointing her cheeks.
Erika covered her face with her hands. "It's hot outside."
"No need to deny it. I heard that two went to the same high school, so does it mean that you guys used to date."
"We... Did...."
"Oh, my goodness!" the stylist reacted excitedly. "So what happened?"
Erika shook her head and shrugged her shoulders. "One of those life happens," she said, not wanting to go on the details.
"Was it a bad break?"
"Sort of. You know, like any other break up."
"He's seems to get over it," the stylist remarked. "So fine. I could look at him forever, and that ass," the stylist RAarrrr. What would I give to just smack it, am I right?"
"Oookay."
"Oh, dear me! He's coming this way?" Ren squealed.
Shay was walking towards their way with an assistant with him. "Hey, Erika," he said once he walked passed her to get to the dressing room.
"Hey," Erika greeted back politely. She got a bit shy, knowing that the stylist was on her case already in her case about it and seemed taken aback as well.
"Whaaat? I think he's still into you." The stylist smirked.
"By just saying hi to me?"
"Honey, I know how he looks at you. He's so into you."
Erika did reply after that, and turned to her ex as he was starting to get he too was getting ready for the shoot, then she just shook it off to look at the stylist again. "I don't think so," she claimed.
Ren frowned, and continued combing Erika's hair. "Ugh... So denial," he grunted.
Later, once the model and the Super Tundra team were dressed, Erika began working on the set along with the other models. While posing, she would catch a glimpse of her ex-boyfriend watching her along with the team of people working there.
Somehow, she could not help get distracted a bit that his eyes was one her. Erika also had a grin in his face that used to see back when they were a couple back in high school.
Afterwards, it was time for the solo shot, and Erika had to go first. She was posing alone at every angle of the outfit she wore. The photographer would instruct and praise her while he took a bunch of pictures.
Eventually, she took about several minutes to finish, and everyone gave her a round of applause for a job well done which sometimes happens in a fashion shoot.
Shay clapped along with them, like he was her proud boyfriend. "Great job, Erika!" he said loudly, then gave her two thumbs up.
Erika darted her head towards him. Not that she was embarrassed, just felt a bit self-effacing that her ex did that in front of the people she worked with because it could give them the wrong idea about her and him. So, she just gave him a smile.
All the female models were done with their shoot, so they started to have their lunch. There was a buffet for everyone, and Erika began grabbing a piece of chicken, a sandwich and coleslaw.
Shay, and two of his teammates were next to her, and started to get a tray to get some food.
"I am starving. I have three more two more photoshoots and a taping to get to," said Mira.
"I have three more shoots after this," Erika sighed.
"Anything for the kids, right?"
The soccer star happened to hear that, yet he assumed that one model had a child not his ex.
"Look. They have sesame balls over there. I love those. I'm gonna go there and get one. Do you want me get you one too before they ran out?" Mira asked.
"She can't. She's allergic," Shay answered instead.
It got Erika stunned. "Uhm... Yeah, I am."
"Oookay, that's too bad. Alright, meet you at the table then," the model said, then left.
Erika shifted to her ex-boyfriend. "You remember that?"
"Uhm... Yeah, of course," Shay replied. "I always the one who kept eating the sesame balls whenever we ate at Jade's Kitchen."
"Right. Anyway, I better have my lunch now."
"Alright, see you around."
Erika turned around and brought her tray to the table she shared with her fellow models. Somehow it lit her up that her ex recalled something about her.
When she sat down, the stylist emerged and sat beside her. "Someone is comfy with their ex," Renz teased.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Erika responded in an indenial way once again, as she began eating a sandwich.
"I know what I saw."
"Just eat your lunch before I lost my appetite."
"You are so indenial," the stylist scoffed.
About an hour later, Erika and the other models were done for the day since they had to go to another photoshoot. They were waiting for the van to arrived, until their mother agent came.
"Hello, ladies," Ms. Olive greeted, as she got out from her car.
"Ms. Birch, Hi! We're about to head to the next shoot," Erika said back. "What brings you here?"
"The clients want to check-in, so I asked them to meet me here to see how things are going."
"So far, very well actually," a model answered.
"That's wonderful to hear. None of the Super Tundra boys gave you a hard time?" the mother agent asked.
"Nope, they're okay."
"Great, I'm happy to hear that everything is going well. I better get inside now, it's getting hot here. I might get a migrane any moment. I hope there's a cold sparkling water inside. I'll see you ladies later."
"You, too, Ms. Olive," Erika replied.
----
Back inside, Shay watched his first love got inside a van, and left. It made him a bit down that she was able to stick around a bit longer even though they were going to see each other the next day.
Anyhow, he and the other Super Tundra team had to stay back for the time being since it was their turn to have their photos taken. Although, Shay waited for his turn.
Suddenly, Gio came, but he was blocked by a security guard. "Shay!" he called out to get his buddy's attention. "Over here."
It worked because Shay turned to his way. "Gio," he uttered, then looked at the guard to signal him that he was okay to get inside.
Once the bestfriend was allowed to pass, he ran towards the soccer star. "Dude, hey. Nice jacket."
"Thanks, it's for the shoot and it's a prototype. Don't worry, once the real ones are out, I'm gonna get you want."
"Thanks."
"Anyway, I'm glad you made it," Shay said.
"Yeah, finished my job early, so are you done already?" Gio asked. "We are gonna go out after this, right?"
"Absolutely, I'm the last one to get my photo taken, so just chill. There's some snacks by the buffet over there, if you want."
"I'm good, thanks."
"By the way, how's your date with your lady friend? What's her name again?" Shay questioned.
"Sara Hastings, and yes, it went great. We're gonna go out again soon," Gio replied, then looked around the stadium set. "Speaking of lady friend. Where's Erika? I thought you said she's one of the chosen models for the shoot."
"She just left with the other models with her."
"Aww... Too bad. So, what's it like seeing your ex again?"
"Uhm... It's okay, we kinda barely talk today," Shay said. "I think she's avoiding me."
"Maybe she was still pissed that you broke up with her," his best friend remarked.
"I guess, I can't really blame her for that. Especially, when she started going out with Trevor."
"You're not mad at her anymore for going out with Trevor?"
"Trevor is gone," Shay reminded. "Not saying that it's a good thing, but... Still, I think Erika is in a relationship."
"Or maybe not, but what do I know, right? So, are you planning to ask her on a date while you're here in Haymoore?"
"I would, if she's single," Shay reminded that one crucial information that he thought about his ex-girlfriend.
Gio cringed. "Oh! Right," he responded, then had a thought in mind. "Have you seen her boyfriend, or something?"
"No."
"Hold on, how did you know that she's not single again if you haven't seen a guy with her?"
"Yesterday, after the shoot, she got a call and she was saying, "I love you," to this 'Bubba. I don't know about you, but to me, it sounds like she has a new guy in her life."
His best friend began contemplating from the soccer star's story. "What if it's not what you think?"
Shay looked at him in a weird way. "Okay, what is it then?"
"Could be... A friend, maybe."
"Whom she says I love you, too? Pfft... Yeah, right."
"Come on, don't you wanna know?" Gio asked in an eager tone, like he was trying to tempt his friend into finding out his ex-girlfriend's current status.
"Are you just trying to get a private investigating job from me, or are you just really nosey?" Shay joked.
"Maybe both, but seriously, don't you wanna know if she really is going out with someone? And who that guy is?"
"Not like this! It doesn't feel right if I have to use you to find that out. Besides, if she is in a relationship with a great guy, then I'm not sure if I want to pry on it, you know. And, if she's happy to be with him, who am I to interfere with that?"
Gio seems dissapointed that he wouldn't be able to used his P. I skills for his best friend's personal gain. "Ugh... I guess," he grunted. "Alright, so if she's single, are you like planning on getting back with her?
"To be honest, yeah," Shay admitted. "It's kinda obvious that I'm not over her, and now that I see her again, made me want her back more, but now, it just feels impossible."
"Well, if that's the case, then why not just stick to being friends with her, so that way you could be near her?"
The soccer star gave it a thought, and nodded in consideration. "I can do that."
"The only catch is, you can't go more than that," Gio advised. "You have to know your bounderies."
"You're right, but as long as I can be near her, I'll take anything I can get."
Later once their photoshoot ended for the day and a night out with Gio, Shay was back in his hotel. He dropped himself on the couch, then let out a heavy sigh.
He took out his phone from his bag to check on his social media. There were important messages and other notifications that he opened, and replied almost every one of them.
After a few minutes of typing his response, he though about what Gio said about looking into his ex-girlfriend. He didn't want to at first, but his curiousity gotten the better of him.
That was when Shay decided to open Instagram, then typed Erika's name with her last name. He saw an account with her face on the profile picture, so he tapped on it. Unfortunately for him, it was on private.
"Damn. Of course, it's on private," he grunted to himself. Suddenly, there was another idea in mind. "Maybe, I can follow her."
Shay quickly tapped on the follow button. Afterwards, he put his phone on the side and stood up to get the showers.
