Chapter 17 : Her Name Was Chiara

The next day, the young mother wanted to take action to make things right with Trevor, and to do that, she went to his house. Though she saw his mother gardening outside. "Good afternoon, Mrs. Dell," Erika greeted.

It got the woman's attention so she put down a pot. "Erika, fancy seeing you here," she greeted back. "I thought you'd be away by now for college. How are you?"

"I uhm... have to take a year off first."

"I see." Trevor's mother had no idea that the teenage girl was bearing a child under that flowy dress she wore, though she noticed her change of physique. "You look... different. Are you here to see Trevor?"

"Yes, is he here? I tried calling him, but he's not answering."

"No, he's not, he left about an hour ago. I'm not sure what it is, but he is in one his moods. I think it's because I kept pestering him about going to England."

"Wow, he's going on a vacation in England?"

"Sorry, not vacationing. Moving to England," Trevor's mother clarified. "Didn't he tell you that? He's offered to go study a business course with an MBA."

"Oh, that's great," Erika gulped. It was news to her, and was bothered that Trevor didn't tell her about it. "I... had no idea he's going to study... in England."

"I for one, am happy that he finally agreed to go last week. I am, what you kids call, hashtag proud mother. Lately he's been busy with applications and all the requirements he had to collect."

The teenager became stumped to hear that since last week was the time she told him to stay away from her. "That's... a lot. So, where is he now?"

Mrs. Dell got speechless. "I can't tell you. You can wait here, if you want. I'll call him that you're here."

"It's kinda important. I need to see him."

"I can pass him a message."

Erika had no choice but to budge a bit more. "We had an argument a week ago. I feel so bad about it. I just want to talk to make it right."

After giving some consideration about it, Mrs. Dell gave in as she started to sympathize. "Alright," She sighed. "I'll tell you."

----

Some time later, Erika arrived at the location where Trevor's mother told her where he would be. She looked around the area and there were a bunch of small flat grave tombs before she got out from a cab with a basket of flowers and a bag of take-outs she bought along the way.

Apparently, it was a cemetary where the stillborn babies were laid to rest. While searching for Trevor, she glanced at each some plaques she passed by, and could not help feel creeped out and also pitied that these poor babies did not get the chance to live. She even held her tummy like she was preventing him to be there with them.

Not long, Erika found him standing quietly in front of a tomb of his child in a form of a baby cherub statue. She went to him. Once the girl got closer, she gently placed a hand on his shoulder, "Trevor," she called out to him with a soft tone of voice.

The guy flinched, and turned to her. He was stunned. "Erika," he yelped.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."

"How did you know I'm here?"

"Your mom told me," Erika answered, then her eyes went to the tomb that he was staring at. "Is that her? Your baby with Jillian?"

Trevor was gobsmacked. "You know about that?"

"Kyle told me."

The poor guy turned to the plaque acting all cold toward the teen mother. "Yes, this is my baby. Now you know. So what are you doing here? You do know that it's bad for pregnant women to be in the cemetary?"

Erika understood his hostile demeanor towards her. "Can I at least give these flowers to her?"

Trevor nodded. "Sure."

"I'm sorry about your baby. I didn't know," She said to him as she placed the bouquet in front of tomb.

"Still. What I did there in the hospital was stupid."

"Trev. I'm not gonna lie, I'm still not thrilled that you did that."

"I know, and I'm sorry," Trevor apologized.

"I know that, but despite that it's wrong or not, I know that you mean well, and that's what matters," Erika added. "Everything is so messed up in my life. I feel like I lost control. I should be dancing in Eliard by now, not pregnant at seventeen. I lost my dream, my friends are in college. The last thing I want is to lose you too."

Tears were forming in the poor guy's eyes. "We were suppose to have a daughter. Her name was Chiara."

"That's a pretty name."

"Thanks, Jillian came up with it. You know, it's ironic that she would give it a name before killing the baby. I knew she didn't want her, but to do this."

The young mother was horrified to hear that his baby's life ended that way, and held her tummy again. Furthermore, she had no idea Trevor had been through so much that she never new about it. "I'm so sorry."

"I came here time-to-time. Most times when I'm upset. Right now, Jillian and her parents are two hours away, but never bothered visiting once."

"At least she has you."

Teardrop rolled down Trevor's cheek even more. "I have so many dreams for her. I didn't even get to see what she would look like and have her in my arms. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to protect you, Chiara."

"Shhh... no, don't say that." Erika embraced Trevor to console him. She was starting to cry as well because she feel his pain of losing a child. "Trev, you don't have to say your sorry to her because even though you did not get the chance to see her or hug her, she knows that you love her with all your heart. Right now, I'm sure she's protecting you."

Trevor kept crying. The girl stood in front of him and hugged him tightly to give the comfort he needed. "I'm so sorry. It's going to be okay. I'm here for you. We're here for you."

The guy pulled away and let out a small smile. "Thank you. I really am sorry about..."

"Trevor, it's okay. Let's forget about it."

"Okay."

Some time later, the teenagers headed to Trevor's car since they finally squared things off, and were ready to leave the cemetery. "By the way, your mom said that you'll be moving to England to study there," Erika said.

"Uhm... yeah..." Trevor stammered. "Mr. Heinus wanted me to work in his company, so he told me about this fancy business school there."

"You want to go there? What about RevU?"

"RevU doesn't have a good MBA program."

"Is it that, or you agreed to go there after I pushed you away?" Erika questioned in a slightly confronting tone.

Trevor became quiet and looked away to avoid her gaze. "Of course not, oppurtunity like that doesn't fall out of the sky. Besides, aside from my family, there's nothing for me here."

"Oh..."

After seeing Erika's face, Trevor had no choice, but to tell her the truth. "Okay, yes, it's because of you," he admitted. "I thought... You never wanted to see me again."

"I can't blame you there."

"Although, to be honest, I'm not sure if I want to go."

"What do you mean? You don't want to go to England?" Erika asked.

"It's not that. The school is great and all. I was just hoping to get in to RevU with Kyle," Trevor replied, then paused from that last part.

"I think you should take it."

"Why? Do you want me to go?"

"Trev, it's not like that. Okay, I don't want you to leave knowing that you'll hate me, but you can't throw away something like that," Erika advised.

"I guess you're right. It's just a big change, that's all," Trevor agreed.

"If anyone knows about change, it's me."

"Sorry," Trevor gulped. "I was just..."

"No, don't worry about it. Anyway, you really should go to that school in England, and be someone that Chiara could be proud of, and be someone my son is proud of too. You're important to us too."

"Alright."

Erika took his hand. "Listen. Trevor, you've been by my side when I need help, but about England and Chiara. I get that you were mad at me these past several days. I just wished you would've trust me enough to tell me in the first place."

"I know, but about Chiara. I got used to keeping it as a secret," Trevor said.

"I understand. My point is, you can come to me when you have problems. I want you to trust me too."

"I will."

All of a sudden, they heard a whimper very closeby. "What's that sound?" Erika asked as she looked around to see where it was coming from. "I think it's coming from your car."

"Oh, that must be my little buddy." Trevor opened the car door, and took out a cardboard box, and placed it on the ground.

Erika took a glance inside and gasped in delight to see a English Bulldog puppy in there looking right at her. "Aww... So cute," she reacted in awe.

"You must be hungry, little fella. Good thing, I brought your food."

"What's his name?"

"Crumbs," Trevor answered.

The young lady lifted a brow at him "Crumbs? Why Crumbs?"

"Because he looks like a bread, but I don't want to call him Bread. So I came up with Crumbs because bread makes crumbs."

Erika giggled. "Oh, you. But why is he in your car?"

"My Dad is allergic to dogs, so I had to keep him here for a while. I'm planning on moving out soon anyway while waiting on this England thing."

"Where'd you find him?" She asked, and began petting it.

"I was about to go home, and found him in the bushes from a parking lot near work. He was all scared and dirty."

"Aww... poor thing. Can I hold him?"

"Sure."

"Hey, little guy." Erika took the puppy out from the cardboard container, and held it like a baby close to her chest.

Trevor smiled seeing his little buddy warming up to his crush. "He seems to like you."

"Well, I like him too. What a sweet boy." She could not help but stare at its scruffy round face pressing on her. "What if he stays with me, in my house?

"Huh?"

"Just for the mean time until you find your own place."

Trevor was reluctant at first though he gave it a thought. "What about while I'm at work? He's kinda noisy at night when he settles at a new home."

"Okay, deal." Erika continued petting the puppy and cradling it.
