Life Now
Carter sits on my bed as I finally chase away all the cockroaches that wouldn't leave me alone, and by cockroaches, I meant my best friends.
"So, where were we?" I question as I sit on my bean bag at the far end of the room. What? This is the first time I have had a boy over, and I do not want to act overly weird and chase him out.
"I believe we were passionately kissing before we got disturbed," Carter winks, making me chuckle as I shake my head at his answer.
"Come here," He motions to the spot next to him, and I automatically get up and sit beside him. He puts his arms around me, pulling me closer to his chest, and his heartbeat calms me down. I suddenly remember something that makes me look up at him.
"what's wrong?" he questions, puzzled.
'The first time I saw you, you mentioned a girlfriend back home," I raise my eyebrows questioningly, and he laughs.
"I like that you are getting jealous, but you don't have to be. I was, am and always will be yours," He smiles, quickly pecking my lips.
"That still doesn't answer my question," I say, ignoring all the butterflies in my stomach.
"That was a lie," He answers, lying on my bed, making me lie on his chest. Hold up, this is moving too fast.
"I lied because I didn't want August to get all protective over you and stop me from seeing you," He answers.
"He still hasn't changed," I answer with a sigh.
'Will you be my girlfriend?" Carter questions without skipping a beat, as my heart starts beating a thousand times faster.
'I would love to," I can feel Carter's smile against my forehead as he pulls me closer.
"You are my first girlfriend'" He replies, shocking me.
"You have never been in a relationship before?"
"Nope, have you?" He questions.
"No, you are my first boyfriend. I was too busy trying to love myself and with training that I did not have time for boys," I reply.
"I am glad because I don't think I could handle the thought of you with another boy,"
"Well, who's jealous now," I tease, making him chuckle.
"I cannot believe I talked to you about the letters," I say, cringing.
"Yeah, I was surprised as well, but I knew I had a chance when you told me about the letters because I could see that you were slowly starting to fall in love with me,"
"I remember you saying that I won't suffer another heartbreak, and back then, I was wondering what you meant, but now it all makes sense," I say.
"What do you mean?"
"It's you, Carter. You can never break my heart because you are someone who knows how precious it is to love and be loved by someone, so I do not ever have to worry about you breaking my heart, never,"
"I love you, Alexis," Carter says, making me look up at him. He pulls me closer to him by my neck and kisses me, and I can feel his love for me. At this moment, I know my heart is in a person's hand who will protect it even before protecting his own.
"Are you ready for the tournament?"
"Yeah, I am confident that I will do my absolute best,"
"If you get injured, just choose what's best for you. If you want to keep fighting, you can, but make sure you don't let your injuries get worse," Carter explains, making me smile. He looks at me, smiles, and raises his eyebrow in confusion.
"I thought you would force me to drop out if I got injured,"
"No way. You know your limits, and you worked so hard every day, so there is no way I can force you to drop out,"
"Thanks, Carter,"
"Mhm mhm," He shakes his head, continuously kissing my cheek while holding me in place, making me laugh. This is not so bad after all.
A loud crash from the outside makes both of us freeze. Carter slowly gets up from the bed and walks towards the window. He quickly pushes the blinds aside and shakes in disbelief. He looks at me and sighs, making me curious.
I go near the window and find Blue sprawled over the bush, groaning beside a ladder while Ace and Cam are checking for injuries on his body. A chuckle escapes my lips, which turns into full-blown laughter when he slowly gets up and starts chasing Ace around the house.
Carter chuckles and opens the window so we can hear their conversation.
"I freaking told you to hold the ladder properly, you idiot," Blue yells, nearly catching up to Ace, who dodges at the last minute.
"I didn't know Miss Blue was scared of insects. I didn't ask you to scream like a little girl and lose your balance," Ace pokes his tongue out at Blue, aggravating Blue further.
"ARGHH, you are dead meat," Blue chases Ace again while Cam tries to calm them down.
"I don't think you can have any dull moment with those idiots as your best friends," Carter states, chuckling.
"You are right about that," I answer and poke my head out the window. "You guys realize that peeking through my window violates my privacy, right?" I ask, and all three stop dead in their tracks and look up at me.
"We had to make sure no funny business was going on," Ace answers first, as blood rushes to my cheeks, and Carter smirks, liking my reaction. I punch him on his shoulder and answer Ace. Blue finally catches Ace and puts him in a headlock.
"You didn't think about hearing our conversation through the door?" I ask, perplexed. If it was me, I would have done that.
"We are not that stupid to not consid-" Ace trails off as he realizes that he is indeed stupid and did not think of that option.
"Cam, you too? You didn't think of that?"
"You know my brain stops working when I am with Ace,"
"Hey," Ace yells offended.
"I love you, babe," Cam winks.
Blue yells as Ace frees himself and tackles him to the ground. I look at Carter and see him laughing at their antics. I smile, looking at all the favourite people in my life and realize they are the reason for my joy and laughter. I silently thank God.
"Sleepover?"
"For sure,"
