Day 18 - CJR pt 4
Dan rushed out of the school, actually running to find a shop with some crafting materials. He had to prove himself, he had to win. He had around 17 hours to make this, and he had to sleep somewhere in those hours. Needless to say, he was stressed.
Phil was also scurrying out of the school, ready to run into his favourite shop for supplies. He also had to buy a new jumper to decorate, seeing as he'd covered his current one too much to re use it. He had about 6 hours to do this, not including sleeping and eating time. He's done this kind of thing before so he wasn't too worried, but he knew timing had always been an issue for him, the amount of times he'd ran into first class late was ridiculous. That is why he had to start straight away.
Phil opened the door to the shop, after buying a plain white jumper again. He had his plan pretty much in place, he just needed to buy a scarf, some felt, more fluff, spray paint, and more lighting stuff from a different shop. He was planning to glue gun all of its as while he liked decorating, he could not see for the life of him.
He stepped in, and started searching through the aisles of stuff, muttering "felt, felt, felt, felt." But then he saw someone else standing in the aisle, just standing there, staring at something on the shelf. He looked kind of lost, so Phil walked over to him. "Are you looking for something," he asks. The boy then seems to turn a little pink, but then puts on an annoyed face.
"No I'm fine thankyou." But then he lifts his head up and sees his opponent. "Certainly not, I know exactly what I'm doing, you can't psyche me out." He added quickly, making sure the guy knew he wasn't struggling for ideas. He had no experience with this stuff for goodness sake! But he couldn't know that. Phil was not aware of this however and just kept pushing.
"Well, you look like you don't know." Phil said, genuinely prepared to help him, yes, this was a competition, but that didn't mean he wouldn't help out someone really needing it, like he said, he would win fair and square. With that, Dan just turned the other way, and continued into a different aisle. Well, Phil tried. Now Phil would just focus on getting the stuff, seeing as he didn't want help.
He quickly ran through the aisles, knowing exactly where everything was, items bundled into his arms to the point of nearly dropping them.
He then noticed Dan again, in his black coat and black jeans, looking stressed, and that was enough for Phil to return to the poor guy, but he wouldn't miss the opportunity to make fun of him.
"I thought you didn't care about this jumper thing." He says, smirking. Phil always knew he actually cared about the competition, but he also knew he needed to be knocked down a peg. Dan just looks further down, staring at the floor.
"I don't" he denies.
"Then why are you going through all this effort? Where is the plain jumper with a tag on it? Isn't that more your style?" Phil asks hesitantly.
"It is what you're supposed to do. I'm not doing anything different." Dan insisted, but Phil just raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
"Just tell me what you're making and I'll help you find the right stuff." Phil offered, thinking that Dan couldn't protest this.
"Yeah! I'm not that stupid! You're just gonna steal my idea!" He exclaimed. Phil then realised how much Dan wasn't as calm and collected as it seemed, he was probably always conscious of what people thought, or maybe he was finally losing control after all this time with no problems doing anything, that was more likely. Either way, he was a bit much for Phil, Phil didn't even want to help him and he was making it even more difficult to carry on offering help.
Phil sighed, and eventually suggested, "fine, I'll tell you my idea, then you know I don't need to steal yours." Dan's face still didn't look accepting, he was just as defensive.
"You're just making me feel inferior because you have an idea and I don't." Dan insisted, pouting, not realising he'd admitted to struggling to find an idea. Phil once again smirked at that. "And stop doing that!" Dan added.
"So you do need help?" Phil said, crossing his arms in satisfaction.
"N-no, I know what I'm doing."
"Sure." Phil then walked a few steps backwards, ready to turn to the till.
"Wait!" Dan shouted, biting his lip afterwards, and closed his eyes. "C-can you please help me Umm.. just with what stuff I need for it. I know the rest, I do. I just don't know this shop well and it's the-"
"Okay, what do you need?"
"That's what I'm asking you!"
Phil puts his hands out in surrender. "Okay, okay. But what's your idea? You don't want anything too difficult."
"But then I can't beat you!" Who knew Dan was so impulsive and unsure? Phil thought to himself. He'd seemed so composed before.
"Do you really think you can beat me, darling?" Dan's cheeks turn pink again at that nickname. He knew he was doing it to tease him but he couldn't help thinking that of the other way of using that word, as a compliment.
"Y-y-yeah?" Dan said, very coherently. "J-just help me okay! I want to do a polar bear jumper."
"Kind of similar to mine but okay." Phil replies, easily.
"What's yours then?" Dan asks hopefully.
"I'm not telling you." Dan just opened his mouth staring at him. How could he say that when he forced him to tell his? This guy was terrible. With no input from Dan, Phil walked over to the fluffy material.
"What are you doing?"
"Um, what you told me to do, helping you."
"Oh."
"Come on, we've gotta be quick, we don't have long." Phil told him. Dam just nodded, completely confused by this whole situation. Who did this guy think he was, and why did he want to win this competition so bad? Oh yeah, because his opponent was the worst person ever. Oh how good it would feel to beat him, and win, just like every other year.
I thought I wouldn't get this done but I did! be proud.
