Two days later

Serene's POV
I woke up on a soft bed. It had silk sheets and a soft blanket across the bedspread. The pillow was softer than what my home had.
I sat up and rubber my eyes sleepily then removed my hands. I looked around the room to take in my surroundings.
The room was large and quite beautiful. The walls were painted a scarlet red. Golden drapes hung from the ceiling, going to the floor to hide away the entrance to the balcony. There was a large closet on the far side of the room next to the entrance of the bathroom.
I sat up and pulled my legs out of the sheets, setting my feet on the soft white carpet. I directed my eyes to the area of the fire place to see a red dragon sleeping by the warm fire.
I smiled at the sight of Kai sleeping peacefully. Quietly getting up, I went to the bathroom to clean myself up.

Time Skip

Once I was finished taking a bath I quickly got dressed and brushed my hair. When I was done getting ready, I walked back into the bedroom to find Kai sitting at the table eating breakfast.
He smiled when he saw me.
"Come eat. It's still nice and hot." He spoke softly.

Kai's POV
I looked up when I heard the bathroom door open, only to reveal Serene.
Abby had given her a dress from her home in order to confuse the other dragons from catching Serene's scent.
The dress was white, lined with golden thread. Serene's hair was slightly wavy from the braid she had slept in that night.
She looked beautiful.
"There's eggs, pancakes and bacon. Plus orange juice," I spoke as she sat down across from me.
Serene smiled a little and began putting food on her plate.
I was happy to have someone to talk to. Unlike the keys, each of us dragons has our own room in our castle. It gets lonely for me when I have a big room all to myself. The castle is quite big itself, almost as large as the keys town.
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a knock on the door.
"KAI! OPEN UP!" I heard a familiar voice yell. Serene quickly shrunk and hid as I walked over to the door and opened it to reveal Connor DragonLord.
Connor was the dragon of darkness. He had black hair, brown eyes, very pale, and always had the same intense expression on his face. But most importantly, he hated keys. He wouldn't even hesitate to devour one if he got ahold of them.
Connor looked at me with his stern brown eyes. "I heard you ran off during the battle two days ago. Where did you go and what were you doing Kai?" he questioned me harshly.
"I-I wanted to go find a key to devour. I was only looking around." I stuttered.
In my mind I was only hoping Connor couldn't smell Serene, but I was so wrong.
Connor began sniffing the air and walked over to the table. "Seems you've been hiding a key after all."
He glared at me then firmly took Serene in his hand. Serene screamed and thrashed at him, trying to escape his grip, but it was no use. She quickly turned back to her normal height, still struggling as Connor dragged her out of my room; slamming the door shut behind him and locking me in.
"NO!" I yelled as I attempted to open the door with no avail. Connor had taken Serene and now he was going to devour her.

Serene's POV
As I was dragged out of Kai's room and down the hallway, I noticed the other dragons had come out and we're all staring at me. They followed Connor as he dragged me into a large room. It was an indoor arena.
The other dragons looked at Connor as he dropped me then transformed into his dragon self. I began to panic knowing that neither Kai nor Abby were going to save me.
Connor huffed out smoke and walked towards me as I backed up against the edge of the arena, shaking.
"She's never fought before," I heard one of the dragons say.
"She's only a young key, but Connor won't let her live." another said.
Connor let out a loud roar then wrapped his tail around me and held me over his mouth. I screamed in fear, struggling to get free of his powerful grip, but I couldn't.
All of a sudden I heard the doors to the arena break open and standing there was none other than Emma.
"EMMA!" I cried.
Emma looked at me then Connor. "PUT HER DOWN!"
Connor roared angrily, dropped me and charged towards Emma. I landed on the ground with a thud then quickly looked up to see Connor swinging his claws at Emma. She managed to dodge all of his attacks until she glanced over at me to see if I was okay.
Connor's claws went across her chest, blood pouring out.
"EMMA!" tears stung my eyes as I started to run to her.
"N-No Serene. Stay back." She smiled at me but pain filled her eyes as she took another blow, screaming in pain and falling to her knees. Connor stared down at her with anger in his eyes, growling furiously at her.
Emma looked up at me one last time.
"S-Serene, d-don't cry." she stuttered. "I-I k-knew t-this w-would h-happen if I-I came. L-Listen to m-me n-now. Y-You are t-the k-key of p-portals. I-I know y-you w-will get y-your powers s-soon. I-I love you s-sweet l-little k-key."
And with that Connor took one final blow to Emma's head and she collapsed to the ground.
I screamed and cried out for her as another dragon walked into the arena behind me. I fell to my knees crying, burying my face in my hands. Hot tears streamed down my face as I continued to cry.

Third Person POV
Blood.
Fear.
Ruined.
The young girl stood in the middle of the arena, scarred for life, her face stained with tears. Her best friend, the one who had raised her, lay dead before her.
She shook in fear as the dragon, who had entered the arena behind her, wrapped his tail around her fragile body and walked out of the arena.
The dragon of darkness, Connor DragonLord, had done it. He had killed the key of black holes.
The dragon that had saved her was different. He was known as the spirit dragon, Nathaniel Spiritess.
