Crisis (Nina)
Nina
I was shopping for new church shoes when my phone rang. It was Rachel, so I picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hey Nina! Don't get mad at me okay?"
"Well, that depends on what you did", I say as I silently make a decision between brown and black shoes.
"Okay, So I went to your place and tried to convince your dad to sign a form for therapy.", she blurted out all too quickly.
"What?!", I exclaim, forgetting I'm at the mall, as a few people turn around to look at me.
"Yeah.. He was really sensitive and irritable about it so I had to let it go and leave."
"Oh my god, Rachel, I told you I'd do it myself. Not EVERYBODY has the time and money to deal with their kid's emotions, I hope you know that.", I said as I hung up the call.
I was mad, okay? It happens.
'How could she just go over and talk to my dad! Without asking me?', I thought even though I knew she meant well.
I quietly paid for the shoes at the counter and left. The real question was now, 'Where to go?'
Since I was not in the right state to meet Rachel, and I didn't have any family in town, I didn't know where to go. I definitely couldn't go home. The conversation with dad would definitely become extremely awkward and exhausting and I just didn't have the energy to deal with it.
I ignored the fact that I hadn't called Diana in a year, picked up my phone and scrolled to D on my contact list. Here's hoping she would pick up and get me out of this situation.
"Hey! Nina?", Diana's words were slurred and she seemed drowsy.
'In the middle of the day? That's weird' , I thought but I didn't have any other choice.
"Hi Diana! Listen, could I stay over at your place for a day or two?", I asked trying to sound as casual as possible. As if our elementary-to-middle school friendship hadn't been torn apart.
"Sure, come over.", she murmured. Either she was too sick to remember or she just didn't care.
"Thanks, Be over in 5", I said. Her parents probably wouldn't mind either. All they ever want is for Diana to be my friend again. "Friends with good grades encourage you to study", they say. Even though I don't deserve her kindness, We end up being on-and-off friends.
Well in a time like this, All I need is to get through without an unnecessary Crisis.
