Deer Cryptid Costume Leg W.I.P + Tutorial

Hey! I'm working on my Halloween Costume, and it consists of semi-realistic legs, a mask, a cloak, and potentially some articulated fingers. The first order of business is the legs- And here they are! A WIP obviously, the tops of the hooves have yet to be painted, etc, (Basic tut at the bottom)

(Sorry about my messy room, lol. I've been working hard all day, didn't have time to set my bed)

Yeah! Doubt I'll get any, but no weird comments about my body or real legs, please. I am a minor, and not comfortable with it!

Terribly sorry about the bad image quality- My phone's camera isn't the best, and it was a bit dim in my room.

Tutorial!

1: First, I started off with some heels, I got from Value Village (Thrift store) for, like 8$. Make absolutely sure they fit, and you can walk comfortably in them; If you can't walk in them with a heel, I strongly doubt you'll be able to without them.

2: Bring those home, and cut the heels right off. You're meant to be walking on your toes; don't try to lean back, or, seriously, you could roll an ankle. Walk around, get used to it, jump, hop, jog, etc. If you actually can't walk in them at all, or have weak ankles, I recommend ankle wraps or braces!

3: Paint! I did brown, but you can do whatever. Then, pick out the hooves.

4: You can buy resin ones, but they're hella expensive. What I did, was take two rolls of empty masking tape, (Just the cardboard, no tape, or else the paint won't stick.) And cut them in half, proceeding to fit them onto the shoe. Hot glue works to attach them, then paint them. I suggest black.

5: Walk around in those! Get used to it!

6: Take a pair of nylons; brown works the best, but black is also okay.

7: Mesure your thighs, waistline to mid-thigh, and around. Take those measurements, for example, 24-by-12, and cut it out of long-pile faux fur.

(SMALL NOTE ON FUR QUALITY: You don't have to use expensive fur for this! Just go to your local Fabricland, Joannes, or Micheals- they'll have L-Q/M-Q fur for cheaper than online and for more exact amounts.
One trick to finding good quality fur is to spread the fur apart and check to see if you can easily see the backing. If you can, it isn't good quality. Another way is just a basic shine and feeling test; if it feels like corn silk, stringy and plastic-y, it's cheap. Stay away. If it's shiny and soft, almost like real fur, that usually means it's higher quality!)

(For example, here is a description of three of my furs; The blue is LOW QUALITY. I purchased it off of Etsy, and it was a big letdown. Feels like plastic, looks like plastic, and does not shave.  The Purple is MID QUALITY. It's short, fine, and shiny. It shaves well to a point and is very soft. It could almost pass for High-Quality, and it was found at a regular old Fabricland. The Brown is HIGH QUALITY/VERY HIGH QUALITY. It was bought from Big Z Fabrics online, and they are known to carry the best quality fur, for cosplay, costume, and fursuits. This fur in particular is a long pile, very soft, and very shiny. It shaves super well and is what I used for Maple, and this costume.)

8: Sew the two pieces together at the short ends, until it looks like shorts. You can use a machine, or hand sew. I hand-sewed it.

9: Stitch a small line, not all the way up, at one end. Put them on, make sure they fit like shorts, and cut little slits for a belt to thread through; this is very important, as it keeps the shorts from falling down.

10: This step is optional, but you can add a tail to put on the belt. There are plenty of tutorials out there that can do more detail.

11: Mesure around one ankle, and cut it out of fur. Sew the ends together, for ankle cuffs! If they're too loose, add some extra stitches.

And, there you go! Fawn/deer/deer Cryptid legs!

If somehow someone actually follows this tutorial, TAG ME! Please, I'd love to see it!

Thoughts? Critiques? More updates when I put the gloss finish on the hooves, and when I finish the mask.
