Episode 9: the lost mining town of the Cecropians

It's been thirteen minutes after meeting the bounty hunter Delta, and the sun is barely visible at the mountains due to night time arriving. Antares was at the cruiser, inspecting to see how much fuel it has. Surprisingly, it's almost out of fuel. He knew that he has to look for more fuel for his cruiser, but where to find is the question.

"Yo, Antares!" A voice called out.

He turned his head and saw Delta outside the wrecked space ship, walking towards him.

"Oh, what brings you here?" He asked.

"Hey, I just want to say that your robotic girlfriend has downloaded a map into herself" replied Delta.

"She's not my girlfriend, she was originally the ships AI that I had installed into a robotic body just to keep the space pirates from taking her" he said, taking off his helmet to wipe the sweat off his forehead before putting it back on.

"Is something wrong with your cruiser?" Asked Delta.

"I just used up what's left of fuel to get here" he replied.

"Wow, looks like we have to find more of whatever fuel this cruiser needs" remarked Delta.

"This cruiser is powered by crystal quartz of any type, and this planet might have some nearby" he explained.

It wasn't long until Lauren came out of the wrecked space ship, just to see what's up. She then projected a holographic map, so the two can see where they're at. According to the map, the trio are at the northwestern part of planet Cecrops. Then she zoomed in, showing that there's a settlement within the southeast twelve miles from here.

"If we're going to this settlement, then there should be locals that can provid us the fuel for the cruiser" pondered Antares.

"I don't know much about this, but it's getting late" said Delta.

"Hours till we arrive at the settlement: four hours" said Lauren.

"Yeesh! That's how long it takes getting there on foot? Sometimes I regret going barefoot than wearing protective boots" complained Antares.

"Don't worry, if we were to make camp then I would be on the look out" Reassured Delta.

Then the trio headed southeast to the settlement, following Laurens directions. As they traveled, they passed by a forest of strange trees that has silver colored leaves with green outlines. The night sky was rather breathtaking, with the stars that shine, a nearby planet is visible in the sky, and there's even two moons that orbit planet Cecrops. Antares started to yawn as the trio reached the end of the forest, feeling rather sleepy.

"Are you feeling sleepy, Antares?" Asked Lauren.

"Yeah, it's been hours since I woke up from hypersleep. I kind of miss sleeping on a bed, but I once slept outdoors with my parents when I was a kid" he answered.

"We have the next six miles until we get to the settlement, do you want to continue? Or do we make camp?" She suggested.

"Lets try and make camp, just to rest our legs" he said, sitting on a rock.

Lauren nodded, and told Delta to sit down. Antares yawned again before laying down on the ground and, he stared at the stars and the moons before closing his eyes to sleep. Delta stayed up to be on the lookout if there's any aggressive fauna that might attack, holding his laser sniping rifle in case. Lauren also stayed up (due to being an android, she doesn't need to sleep) to keep watch, all the while providing back up in case if Delta become overwhelmed.

Next morning.

The sun rises from the east, bringing light to the land. Antares slowly opened his eyes as he sat up, feeling his exoskeleton buzzed against his skin. He noticed there were corpses of strange alien creatures that are described as blue bats covered with scales and three eyes. He got up and saw Delta sitting across him, with the black space suit having few scratches on it. Even Lauren is covered in yellow blood from those alien bats, but she retained her calm face.

"What just jappened?" Asked Antares.

"We were attacked by these flying organisms, and they attacked us while you were sleeping. We had successfully driven them away, while killing most of the swarm" explained Lauren.

"It was thrilling, I haven't killed this much since my last job!" Chuckled Delta.

Antares reached over and removed the bounty hunters space helmet, and saw that there were black circles around the man's eyes. He is worried about Deltas mentality, but he is rather impressed by how the bounty hunter and Lauren had fended off the swarm of alien bats.

"Come on, let's get going. With luck, we might find a cafe that serves coffee" said Antares.

"Back at you" replied Delta, putting his helmet back on.

"While we're at the settlement, I like to clean myself of the blood" said Lauren.

The trio continued their travel to the settlement, and it took about two hours to arrive. Once they arrived, they saw that it was a town that was built in an artificial circular hole that is connected to other circular holes. The buildings look like the ones from the outpost, so that tells both Lauren and Antares that the town itself is built by the natives of Cecrops. Luckily, there were stairs that appear to be hand carved. The trio went down the stairs and into the streets, but there's no one there. There were strange vehicles parked in the streets that once hovered to travel, and trees grew next to the street.

"Sure is quiet" said Antares.

"I'm sure there are people living there, otherwise it'll be a ghost town" said Delta.

"I have detected signs of life within this settlement" said Lauren.

"Are they the natives of this planet?" Asked Antares.

"Correct, but I advise to exercise extreme caution" she warned.

"Looks like we might encounter some folks that might do us harm" said Delta, smiling underneath his helmet
