Episode 1: a frosty awakening
Five years later
The cryopod chamber at the rear of the ship is covered in dust due to lack of maintenance, and some of the ships systems have failed except for the support systems (it powers the cryopods) and the power system.
"Error! Error! Ships power is at 67%, requiring maintenance. Android maintenance units have been destroyed by intruders, requesting back up!" The ships AI announced.
At the back of the cryopod chamber is a cryopod with the number 12 on it, and it contains Antares. Inside, he wore only underwear, exoskeleton (basically a part of the armor that Cosmic Soldiers wear that enhances their strength), and an oxygen mask. However, he's covered head to toe in frost from where the cryopod had froze him.
The ships AI, taking on the form of a young woman with pink hair, appeared at the monitor at the left side of the chamber. She looked into the screen, monitoring each occupants to see if they're still alive. Sadly, she saw that a couple of them have bullet holes on their heads while others remain alive. She was relieved that some of the Cosmic Soldiers are still alive, but the intruders have already taken over the ship and used it as a base. Needing the help, she browsed through each occupants until she saw Antares whose condition is perfect.
"Commencing wake up sequence" she said, pressing the reactivate button.
Inside the pod, Antares felt warm air flowing from the oxygen mask and into his nostrils. The warmth of the air have started to thaw out his lungs, heart, and brain. The frost on the window of his pod have slowly thawed, and his eyes started to move beneath his eyelids. Then he opened his eyes, taking a deep breath of the warm air. His vision starts off blurred, until his eyes adjust. He looked around, seeing that he's in his pod, and he saw that his body is still frozen. He tries to move his arms, but to no avail, as the only thing he can do is stiffly curled his fingers into fists. As the warm air coming from his oxygen mask, his body is regaining a bit of warmth that his joints slowly thawed out.
"How long have I been asleep?" He questioned in his head.
Suddenly, he saw a figure that had entered the cryopod chamber. It's actually an alien with three solid black eyes, red skin with yellow spots, and crab claws. It wore a white suit with red boots, and a red vest. It walked down the chamber towards him, but it was looking left and right as if it was making sure. The best thing he can do is close his eyes, and pretend to still be asleep. Unfortunately, the warm air coming from his oxygen mask has stopped. Then the alien approached his pod, looking through the glass. But as it does so, he is tapping his left foot to keep himself calm (it couldn't see him doing that because the window can only show the head, torso, and arms).
"Please make it go away. Please make it go away!" He begged in his mind, trying not to give away that he's awake.
Then the alien reached into its pocket and pulled out a communicator, and turned it on.
"The Cosmic Soldiers are still asleep, the other two are dead by us shooting at them. What do we do with them?" It reported, it's voice is gravelly and warbled.
Whoever replied through the communicator come out unintelligible, but only the alien nodded as it understood whatever the response coming from the communicator.
"Understood, I'll be at the ships cabin" said the alien.
Antares opened one eye and watched the alien walked to the entrance, and afterwards, he slowly reached his hand on his oxygen mask and peeled it off. He was breathing hard, but the inside his pod smells of vinegar and antiseptic. He reached his hand on the handle at the top of his pod and pulled it down, and then he kicked the pod lid open.
"About... time..." he said in a weak voice.
With him stepping out of his pod, he sees piles of dust on both sides of the chamber with the main walkway being strangely swept. Even then, he felt the gritty dust beneath his feet. His legs felt stiff after years of being frozen, and some parts of his body is still covered in frost. He took few steps and was careful not to fall on to the floor, but he's trying to regain his balance. The only things he can hear is his heartbeat, his breathing, and the humming of the machinery. He was lucky that there's still light in the cryopod chamber, otherwise he would have a hard time navigating a dark chamber.
"Welcome back, Antares" said the ships AI.
"Huh...? Whats... going on...?" He asked in a shaky voice.
"I see your body is still in the process of being thawed out, but I must inform you that the ship has intruders of unknown origin. I advise you to exercise extreme caution, given your current state" she warned.
"I'll be fine... don't worry" he reassured.
He walked to each of the pods that contained his team mates, and he can see that they all wear the same exoskeleton that he's wearing. He contemplates on who to wake up, but it'll take a while for them to thaw out.
"Antares, I've monitored the rooms of the ship. It should be safe for you to go and put your armor on and grab your weapon, but you can't take on every intruder in this ship. They have weapons that can cut through defense, and there forty five of them" she explained.
"Heh, but first I need to eat and drink. I spent an unknown amount of time in hypersleep, and I can feel my stomach is thawing out and about to growl. Not to mention thawing the rest of my body" he grinned.
With that said, he walked towards the metal sliding door. Then he took off the wrist part of his exoskeleton (which enhances his strength) to let the scanner to scan the bar code tattooed on his wrist, after that, the metal door slides open.
"Before you go, Antares. I want you to recover the main disc that contains my data and personality, and insert it into a remote android body" said the ships AI.
"Why?" He asked.
"I can't let the intruders have my data, otherwise they'll destroy me. Before I wake you up, I've been kept silent since the arrival of the intruders" she answered.
"Before I go and fetch your disc, I want you do something for me: wake the others" he said.
"Consider it done" she replied.
Afterwards, Antares walked out of the cryopod chamber and into the corridor. He felt very vulnerable without his armor and shield, but with his exoskeleton, he might be a match against few intruders.
