chapter two
Billy's POV
"I can't believe we are really at the Hall of Justice right now." I practically squealed in my brother's ears, earning myself critical looks from some of my classmates. Whatever, they obviously don't understand the magnitude of this situation.
Tommy scoffed slightly, rolling his eyes despite the excited smile on his face. He turned to me as we entered the sprawling landmark, flashing me a thumbs up. "Awesome, right? Try to keep it in your pants though, okay?"
"No promises. If we meet any heroes, I might faint." I spoke honestly, taking in the sights of the main lobby. "I might faint just from being here, this is seriously wicked."
Tommy rolled his eyes again as our head chaperone began to address the class. "Students, you are free to roam the hall as you please for the next two hours before lunch. But you must stay on the Hall grounds and adhere to the rules, understood?" We all chorused a 'yes ma'am'. "Good, now go enjoy yourselves."
Instantly I grabbed Tommy and was off in search of what I desperately wanted to see; Wanda Maximoff's memorial. Tommy chuckled but allowed himself to be pulled along as I squealed facts at him as we passed various statues and memorials, finally coming up to the most recently installed one, the statue for the one and only Scarlet Witch.
I stumbled to a halt a good distance away when I saw it, tugging Tommy to my side as I stared in awe. She was magnificent in memory, imagine how she must have been in life? The ruby statue showed her smiling softly down at the crowd of teenage boys that stood at the base, the four of them looking slightly suspicious as they stood around the memorial. Her eyes seemed to twinkle with mischief despite the lifeless stone they were made of and they seemed to follow my every step as I slowly made my way closer.
But what really caught my attention was the scarlet gemstone that rested above her heart that seemed to swirl with an immense amount of energy. It captivated me, almost as if it were calling to me. My eyes were glued to it so much I didn't realize I had accidentally walked into one of the four boys standing guard at the base of the statue until he barked at me. "Hey, watch it!"
"Oh...sorry." I mumbled, finally managing to snap my attention away from the gemstone long enough to look up at who I had walked into. My eyes felt like they were going to burst from my head when I realized I was standing in front of the one and only Quicksilver, Pietro Maximoff. "Oh my god...you're her twin."
"What?" He hissed, eyes narrowing. "How did you know that?"
"He knows practically everything about Wanda Maximoff and superheroes in general. Billy's a nerd like that." Tommy grinned, throwing an arm over my shoulder when my mouth wouldn't seem to work. "Awe, Billy don't be shy. You always dreamed of the moment you would get to meet my counterpart. See, he always jokes that I'm the Pietro to his Wanda. Like I said, obsessed."
"Tommy, zip it." I whined, my face flushed bright red. I can't believe him! Making me seem like some crazed stalker to Quicksilver of all heroes...
"You two don't have...powers...do you?" The short black haired one asked, jolting me out of my pouting thoughts.
Tommy snorted. "No, he wishes."
I glared at Tommy, about to snap some snippy comeback when an explosion blasted me through the air and straight onto the statue of Wanda, Tommy landing on top of me. "Ow...my god, we destroyed the statue!"
"You didn't, he did." The teen with the white streak in his black hair growled, pointing at a giant purple man standing at the far end of the hall where the explosion happened.
"I see you have prepared for my appearance. Very well, hand over the reality stone and I shall spare the lives of the terrans." The walking grape boomed.
I looked down, noticing I was laying right on top of the stone. I grabbed it, yanking it free from the necklace and putting it in my pocket. Tommy saw what I did, staring at me with wide eyes. "What the hell do you think you are doing, Billy?" He whispered harshly.
"Helping the heroes." I said simply, crawling ever so slightly towards the back wall with my brother on my tail. "If I can keep this stone from getting into grape face's hands long enough for them to take him down, well, maybe I actually did something worth while with my life."
"Billy, that's suicide."
Your brother is right.
I winced, looking around for the source of the voice in my head. I noticed Miss Martian herding a group of my classmates outside the building, but her stare was fixed on me.
But its too late now. I hope you know what you are doing, Billy Kaplan.
I nodded a silent thank you to the senior, sliding towards the exit. I stopped when Superboy was tossed into the wall next to me, right in my path. I jumped back, looking towards the direction he came from to see the purple giant staring me down. "Boy, hand over the stone."
"You want it? Come get it." I glared, grasping the stone tightly in my pocket. I gasped when I felt electricity flow through my body, a slow burn taking over my form from where my hand grasped the stone and continuing throughout the rest of my body. I shivered, despite feeling like I was on fire, as a million and ten sensations flooded my body all at once.
"Billy? Billy!" Tommy's voice sounded thousand's of oceans away as he called out to me, yet it was the clearest I had ever heard anything in my entire life. I felt his hand close around mine, the one holding the stone, for a brief moment before he yelped, pulling his hand away. "Ow! Billy, you're...glowing? What the fu-"
I let out a grunt when I felt a punch connect with my stomach, a thousand times harder than any punch Tyler and his cronies ever delivered. I held tight to the stone, gritting my teeth as I glared up at the purple grape man. Without even realizing I was doing it, my hand shot out and blue electricity burst out, shooting the giant in the face and knocking him back as he was encased in a blue forcefield. Like second nature, I swung my hand that was holding the stone in a circular motion three times and pushed it forward, creating some sort of portal that engulfed the purple giant before closing, leaving nothing but a destroyed Hall of Justice and a battered group of heroes, plus my brother and me.
I yelped when I felt my palm burning, dropping the stone on the ground and shaking my hand out. I felt tears leak out of eyes as I looked at my hand, noticing a very faint 'M' like brand in the middle of my palm. "Motherfu-"
"Billy! Dude, what was that?" Tommy asked, by my side in an instant. I shook my head, just as confused as he was.
"I thought you two said you didn't have powers?" Pietro asked, kneeling by the stone I had dropped with an unreadable expression.
Tommy and I exchanged glances, looking around at the circle of superheroes that had formed around us. "We didn't."
