Chapter 21
Noctave and Dia swapped notes to figure out what to do about Halucina.
"Noctave, you're the most precious thing in the world to me. I can't let Halucina hurt you!"
"I need to see her. She can't keep doing this to you, me, and anyone else. She attacked Umbrum while Urainia was pregnant with me, I can't fall to her charms."
"Alright...but if you get hurt, I'll never be able to forgive myself."
Noctave planned to travel to Halucina's land, Imagina, in the next week, but she would meet her much sooner. Much sooner.
She found herself in an especially lucid dream, knowing it was Halucina's doing.
She was outside of a temple in a desert oasis. It seemed to be noon, with nobody around. The date trees swayed in the breeze, she heard running water from inside the temple, and felt the warmth of the desert sun.
Noctave saw she was wearing nothing more than a teal, sparking sheer minidress over a purple bra and underwear. It's a cute look, but I see that Halucina's in control of everything here.
She walked through the temple admiring the trippy patterns of flowers and animals. There was a fountain in the middle, its water sparkling in the sunlight overhead. Somehow, Noctave didn't feel thirsty.
She found a staircase near the fountain. Throwing caution to the wind, she ran up it.
Halucina was waiting patiently in the room on the very end of the hall.
She's a bold one, isn't she? Can't wait to ruin her.
Halucina was hardly wearing anything, as well, with lots of turquoise jewelry and with patterns of eyeballs. The whole room was painted with eyeballs.
"Listen, Halucina, if you're trying to make me uncomfortable, then you're doing a great job."
Halucina laughed like a blue jay. Haughty and mischievous.
"Nocti, you of all people should know that privacy is a myth. Even the thoughts in your head aren't a secret."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. Could you please allow me to leave this place?"
Halucina grew a wolfish smile. "Maybe if you please me for long enough, I'll consider it."
Noctave smiled, a mask to hide her suspicions. Please me? She wants to bang me, doesn't she?
But then again, if she wants to have me that much, I guess I should consider it a complement.
Halcina, despite being the Goddess of the mind, didn't see what Noctave was thinking, assuming that Noctave would follow her lead.
Hubris is a dangerous thing, isn't it?
"So, Nocti, do you want something to drink?"
Noctave considered it for a short moment. She suspected she'd try to slip her something. "No, thank you."
"Please, Nocti-"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT!"
Halucina hid her surprise behind a layer of smugness. "Temper, temper. I just wanted to know what you wanted to drink."
"Fair point, but don't call me 'Noct'."
Halucina put a hand on Noctave's shoulder, her finely manicured nails digging in her soft skin.
"What pet names are you open to?"
I wish I could give her a piece of my mind, but I need to play along.
"How about...Luna?"
"Oh, that's a nice one!"
"It was Silas' pet name for me."
Halucina blinked. "Silas?"
"He was a High Priest I fell in love with, a long time ago. He made the accessories that you saw me wear at the ball. Y'know, the crown and all that..."
Halucina was in shock. "This is too much information. So first, you're not a virgin?"
"Uh...yeah. Why did you assume I was?"
Halucina had nothing to counter that without making her look bad. "So, secondly, you're bi? Bisexual?"
Noctave narrowed her eyes. "Yes, what's wrong with that?"
"Nothing...I'm just...surprised..."
You're despicable...
"And lastly, you had sex with humans? Humans!?"
Noctave rolled her eyes. "I know there's a bit of a taboo around it, but it was consensual. And don't act as if you never had sex with humans!'
"Those were flings! Not long-term relationships!"
Noctave pushed her away.
"What right do you have to judge me?"
"Listen, I'm sorry that I said that to you. C'mon, let's just have a good time together in this dream of ours."
Noctave was shocked. "'Ours'? You're in control of this dream!"
Halucina laughed to hide her fear that she was beginning to fail. "Luna, the love of my life, please don't leave me."
Noctave smacked away Halucina's hand.
"Stop this dream."
"Oh, honey, you don't really mean that-"
"I don't want to play this silly game of yours! I'm over it!"
Halucina held her tight, and pinned her to the bed.
"Fine, if you aren't going to cooperate, then I'll have to do this the hard way."
Hard way? What is she talking about?
Noctave glared at Halucina, defiant.
"No wonder Umbrum smashed your ribs in! You're worse than him!"
"Luna, you don't really mean that-"
"Oh, I do."
Just as Halucina was about to strike her in fury, Noctave faded away.
Noctave woke up and found Noxis batting her face.
"Noxis? What are you doing?"
"I saw you were under Halucina's spell. You should've listened to Dia."
"I had to see how terrible she is for myself, Noxis. And yes, she is terrible."
Noctave walked over to her desk, and wrote a quick note to Dia.
"I met Halucina in my dream last night. And you're right, she is terrible. How can we stop her?"
