Chapter 15

Noctave became Flower Moon at moonrise. Flower Moon hated to sleep inside, so stepped out and sang a song that made everything within 10 feet (3.049 meters) a gorgeous meadow. Only then did she decide to sleep.

Umbrum knew it was the Full Moon this week, but he was still surprised to find Noctave looking so...different.

Her eyes were a bright pink, her hair was more like a mass of leaves and vines, and there was a flower with in the moon disk. Her skin was barky. The hat itself was now a moonflower white. She wore the traditional dress of a peasant girl, which looked like a sarafan. It was decorated in delicate embroidery showing a meadow under a full moon. She wore no shoes, and all her accessories had a flower on it or something related to flowers.

(In case you don't know what a sarafan looks like)

"Hi, Umbrum. You look surprised." Even her voice was different. Quieter and less sure of herself.

"Can you blame a guy for being surprised?"

Flower Moon turned away, shy and not knowing what to say next.

Umbrum approached her, but Flower Moon stopped him before he could get close.

She asked him, clearly nervous, "Do you think Dia will like me like this?"

Umbrum shrugged. "I hardly know you, Flower Moon." Flower Moon's eyes started to water, fearing the worst. Umbrum knew that wasn't the right thing to say. He put his hand on her shoulder.

"Dia's a lovely goddess and she loves flowers. If there's any full moon form that you should be worried about Dia disliking, it's Trapper's Moon or Wolf Moon." Flower Moon nodded and hugged Umbrum.

She spent the rest of the day outside, singing to make flowers grow everywhere. And these flowers grew ridiculously big in no time, thanks to Flower Moon's magic. She made flower crowns for the shadow servants, too, mostly out of fun.

Dia arrived in Noctaria again, basket in her arm, a bit worried to see this new Noctave. I know Noctave told me that she's a nicer personality, but I feel...afraid? Nervous? Dread? I just hope this new Noctave likes me.

She found the "new Noctave" in Eventide Castle's courtyard. She could tell something was off by the gigantic flowers surrounding the place.

There were bugs everywhere, whole swarms of bees going crazy for the pollen rich mega-flowers. Urainia stood outside, in awe of what Flower Moon could accomplish. Dia met her.

"Hi, what's going on? Is it related to Noctave?"

Urainia looked up to make eye contact with the tall sun goddess. "Absolutely. You can't hear her, but she's still singing her song. And I have no idea how to stop her."

If Noctave keeps singing her song, all of Noctaria will be a giant meadow!

That's not a bad thing, is it? I doubt they'll last long after the full moon, and it seems to be overtaking the castle.

I wonder what Umbrum thinks of all this...No, I'm sure he's in the castle.

Still, I wonder what he's been up to.

I hope...I hope Noctave has put her trust in the right place...

Dia found Noctave lying in the middle of a moon flower, growing tired of singing her song. She sat up once she saw Dia floating by.

"Dia! How are you?" Flower Moon's eyes seemed to sparkle in excitement.

Confused and greatly concerned. But you seem to be happy to see me, so that's good I guess? Dia dared not speak these thoughts aloud, but smiled at Noctave.

"I'm great, but you seem very different." Dia wasn't sure if it was the right thing to say, but Noctave didn't seem to mind. The magic seemed to wear off, with the flowers gradually shrinking in size.

"So...you have any plans, Dia?" Noctave seemed a bit shy, much shyer than usual.

"Well, Priestess Calypso has suggested that me and you go on a picnic date. She even provided a basket full of food for just the 2 of us." She showed Flower Moon the basket, a large, light brown wicker basket with sunflowers painted on it. Noctave loved it.

"Oh, that's so sweet of her to do that for you...I guess that means that your parents are OK with me and you dating then, huh?" Flower Moon held Dia's hand.

"Their problem isn't with you, it's with your father, of course."

Flower Moon turned away, saddened that her father's reputation still cast a long shadow over her.

Dia could see that Noctave was sad, so she gave her a cinnamon roll from the basket to cheer her up. Noctave happily devoured it.

"Uh...what should I call you?"

"Noctave. I'm different, but I'm still Noctave." She went back to eating her cinnamon roll. "But if you want to differentiate me, call me Flower Moon, or Flower Noctave."

Dia nodded, but was a nervous.

Noctave mentioned that this is one of the nicer alternate personalities of hers-and she's right, this Flower Moon is very nice, if not as sure of herself as Noctave. Though I worry about what the meaner ones are like...I'll just ask her later...In a letter...

"How about I call you...Moonflower?" Moonflower's eyes grew wide, and she nodded, liking the nickname.

"So...Moonflower...where do you suggest we have a picnic?" Moonflower pondered this for a moment and got an idea. "I can easily teleport you there, though you might need a sweater." Prepared, she had a cable-knit sweater with a sunburst on it. Moonflower approved it.

Moonflower also complemented her white, flared pants. "They really fit you. You should wear them more often."

Beaming, Dia said "Awww! Thank you!"

Moonflower took Dia's hand and teleported her to a distant meadow. A beautiful place with a babbling brook and a fantastic view of the mountains. Dia felt as if this place was worthy of a million paintings.

Dia took out the rad and white striped picnic blanket and lie it on the ground. Moonflower found the food packed delicious, possibly more than Dia.

Moonflower took out a green bottle. "What's this?" Dia told her it was a hard liquor called Alisa, a personal favorite of hers.

"You want some?" Dia offered. Moonflower considered it for a moment, and took it. Dia poured out a shot for her and Moonflower drank it.

She found it unpleasant. Dia gave her some apple juice to wash out the taste.

Dia felt drowsy after all the food, and took Moonflower's hand. It was softer than it looked, but it was still bark. Looking in her ruby eyes, Moonflower asked if Dia was comfortable with this plant person form of hers.

"I mean, my skin's hard, my hair is just a bunch of vines, and I make most of my food from the sun."

Dia reassured her. "You might be very different and hard to the touch, but I still love you." Moonflower hugged Dia tightly. She was surprised, but she found it cute.

Dia took a cat nap while hugging Moonflower. Well, Dia called it a catnap, but Moonflower knew she was taking a real nap.

She found her embrace comforting, though she soon wanted to leave it. But if I leave her, she might fall over and get hurt. I don't want that!

Carefully, Moonflower stepped out of Dia's arms and, with upmost care, laid her on the picnic blanket.

Noxis, in his cat form, appeared to check what they were up to. "Flower Moon-"

"I'd like it better if you call me Moonflower."

Noxis considered this. "Moonflower fits you well. You seem to be enjoying your time with Dia."

Moonflower nodded.

"How long has she been sleeping like that?" Moonflower shrugged. "I don't have a watch on me, but I think it been a while, almost an hour."

Noxis responded, a bit smug. "I admire your patience." Moonflower didn't pick up on his smug tone, and went over and petted him. "Really, thanks so much!"

When Dia woke up, she found Moonflower next to her and a flower crown on her head. Moonflower was proud. "I made it myself, just for you!" Dia smiled and hugged her in thanks.
