"No, no god damn way am I going to that school for stuck up snobs, no way in hell!" sounds of protest could be heard from down the hall, made by Emily's brother "hey I go to that school!" She had been arguing with her father for at least 2 hours straight, both of them going back and forth. No progress had been made on either side, she was still determined to not go, whereas her father was still determined for her to go.
With one look at her father she pleaded with him, but to no avail. "I have decided to make Dalton academy a boy and girl school and I think it would be best if you go to a school with your brother, that way you can spend more time with him. I don't want you to regret not spending time with him, not again." Emily looked down in sadness, the guilt trip provided by her father actually working.
She found herself reasoning and weighing the pros and cons of Dalton Academy. On the bright side, she would have a freer schedule, and would have easier access to her own home with all her clothes, and would still be able to visit her friends who lived here but weren't making the move to Dalton Academy. However, it would mean leaving her old school with her friends, the memories and experiences she had gained there. Not only this but she would lose the last tie she had to her mother, after all there was really only one reason she was attending that all-girls high school and that was to be closer to her mother.
3 weeks later
"Emily hurry up or you will be late for your first day at Dalton" with one last glance in the mirror Emily sighed at her dull reflection, her tanned Latino skin contrasted against the outfit, the outfit suited her, however, anyone who was to see her that day would know she didn't want to be there, it was obvious. Her eyes were dull as she frowned at her appearance, it was not a uniform she was proud to wear her old uniform, after all it was the one her mother and sister had worn.
"Maybe I want to be late" Emily muttered to herself, she had already lost, so she didn't see any point trying to fight again. She was neither a stuck up person nor a bad daughter, but she really didn't want to go to this school. She had met people from the school before at the lima bean and when her brother brought his friends back, and they were all really stuck up and acted like they had a stick up their arse. With this information, she concluded that only her brother and Blaine were the good people that had ever attended the school in the last five year. But Blaine left to be with his boyfriend at another school.
There was only one semester left of school, it seemed pointless to Emily to do it now. However, Emily's father had insisted on them learning the ropes now as to minimise the learning time after they returned from the summer vacation. Emily highly doubted the success of her father's plans and still suspected that they would all still look like lost puppies.
She stepped through the front doors that opened up to the lobby, as she stepped through the next set of doors into the hall where all the stairs she was greeted by her friends from her prior school. Her best friend Hanna grabbed her elbow and linked their arms together and proceeded to complain about the whole situation, "'you know how much I love your dad, he's been like a second dad to me, but really I do not want to see him all day, every day until the summer vacation"
Emily gave her a look that could only be understood by Hanna, which translated into a "How do you think I feel" before proceeding to reply to Hanna, "I went to an all-girls boarding school to get away from him but now I have to spend every single day with him!" Hanna understood perfectly, though she had not gone to an all-girls school to get away from her father, she had done it to escape her step-mom.
Hanna's step-mom Julie was a lovely woman, except she was 13 years younger than Hanna's mother, and still possessed that spring in her step. She was always trying to bond with Hanna and join Hanna when she wanted to be alone. There was only so much time Hanna could survive with Julie.
Hanna had only ever told Emily about how she felt about Julie, that's how they were, after all, they were best friends, despite their differences. Hanna was blonde, pale and had piercing blue eyes, and was quite shy about certain things; Emily was the opposite, she was brunette, slightly darkened skin and deep brown eyes, and she was often bold with herself and would say whatever came to mind unless it would offend someone.
Her dad began the speech that he had practised in his room, in front of the mirror and in front of Emily and Taylor. She knew it off by heart. "'Hello girls I am Mr Watson and I am the proud principal of Dalton Academy. When I first made the decision to change this school into a unisex school, I was filled with determination. I made Dalton a safe place for boy and men to be themselves but why just boys? Why not girls too? -an eruption of cheers and applause set off in the hall- now each girl will have a tour guide that will show you around today, and will share the same classes. When I say your name raise your arm and your tour guide will come to you"
He began reading out girls names and Emily waited, praying she didn't get her brother, she wanted to meet as many new people on the first day as possible, considering a few girls hadn't come from her school. As per usual through the curse of alphabetical order, Emily was near the end "Emily Watson, your tour guide is ... Sebastian Smythe". Emily waited until someone approached her, after a few seconds a tall boy with chocolate brown hair came up to me, he had piercing green eyes and a chiselled jaw and full lips, if he wasn't looking at her like he knew he was better than her, she would have said he was attractive but he was staring- more like grimacing- at the sight of her, which made her feel uncomfortable.
"Hi I'm Emily Watson"
"I know" Emily rolled her eyes, getting the feeling it would become a common occurrence with the arrogant boy in front of her. He had this aura of self-love, not the healthy kind, more like the kind that left very little room for love for anyone else.
Emily had dealt with her fair share of guys like this in the past, and she couldn't be bothered starting a new school with the first person she meets being a self-absorbed arsehole. "And the nominees for asshole of the year award are Sebastian Smythe, Sebastian Smythe and Sebastian Smythe. Looks like there's going to be some heavy competition, I wonder who will win. And the winner is... Sebastian Smythe, congratulations!"
The glare that had settled on his face never left, almost as if it was tattooed there "Whatever, if I had my way, you wouldn't be coming to this school". Emily added another observation to the list that she had been compiling against the self-obsessed human that stood in front of her: He thought he ruled the school.
"Be quiet acting like you run the school, but you don't, you have no say in the happenings of this school' Hanna tugged on Emily's arm, in an attempt to distract her from the boy that had wormed his way under her skin and was itching her in all the wrong places.
"Hey I got your brother, we've also got the same dorm and considering you and your tour guide don't like each other you can come with me and Taylor, also no doubt we're going to have the same classes so you can share my tour guide" even though Emily didn't want her brother as a tour guide, she would take anyone over the annoying creature that called himself Sebastian Smythe.

Emily woke up quite early the next morning, not yet adjusted to the crisp bedsheets and hard mattress. In the other bed, Hanna lay dead to the world. Emily always envied that about Hanna, she was able to sleep anywhere, even if it wasn't her bed. Deciding It wasn't fair that she was up and Hanna wasn't, Emily crept over to Hanna's bed and leant down so that her mouth was at her ear and blew. Despite her ability to sleep anywhere, Hanna was quite the light sleeper, and the slightest thing woke her.
Her eyes shot open as she sat up, and glared at Emily. "Why?" Emily walked over to her bed and shrugged. Hanna threw a pillow at Emily as she stood up to go to the bathroom. Before the bathroom door was shut, Emily called back into the room, "hey Han now that you're up you might as well get ready for school!"
The day breezed by and it was already lunch, as predicted Hanna and Emily had the same schedule, which unfortunately for Emily, meant she had all the same lessons as Taylor. She did love her brother, but she didn't need to see him all the time. The distance and time apart helped her appreciate him more.
Emily was queuing up for her food with Hanna in front, she was nearly done apart from her lack of drink but as she reached out for the last bottled water a hand from behind her reached for it too, "Sorry" however, when she turned around it was none other than the arrogant arsehole himself, "Never mind, its only you". Emily wasn't usually this icy towards anyone, but Sebastian had really rubbed her the wrong way.
Sebastian's reply wasn't as warm either, "you think I want to see you too, you think you're so high and mighty, well news flash princess, and you're in my territory now!' a shiver ran down her spine at the way he said 'princess' it was so cold and cruel, and so full of spite. She had no idea how anyone could be so bitter towards the world. She didn't let these feelings show and just rolled her eyes, grabbed a different drink and walked off to pay.
