Chapter 6
Raelyn smiled when she appeared in her choice of vacation spot, oh how long she had dreamt of a cozy beachside retreat. She felt the warmth surrounded her but when she inhaled she didn't smell the salty ocean, she smelt brimstone. Raelyn's eyes whipped open and instead of white beaches and crystal blue waters she found herself looking at a gruesome cavern that extended as far as the eye could see. It was painted in a dreadful red from all the fires and she could hear the moans of tortured souls echoing towards her.
"This isn't the Bermuda Triangle," Raelyn growled even though she knew exactly where she was.
There was a sudden peal of laughter. Raelyn turned around and saw Lagrius walking towards her.
"Welcome to the Under Realm," he said. "I told you I'd get you."
Raelyn glared at him as he smiled smugly at her. He looked like he wanted to say more but once again Raelyn snapped. She cried out in frustration and punched him in the face. The force sent him flying backward and consequently knocked him out. Now that she knew she wasn't where she was supposed to be the warmth suddenly became oppressive. Even though she knew it was probably her surroundings she forced herself to take a few deep breaths out of habit, trying really hard not to hear Godyn's voice in her head.
No one can know. You have to hide it or not even I will be able to save you.
She wondered what she should do now.
She looked up to where the white glowing portal, one that the Evil Dude used for conferences with the Almighty, you know treaties, trading hostages and other boring things, was swirling above her. It was guarded on the White Kingdom's side but completely open down here. Not surprising, most Demon's couldn't handle the pure white magic so jumping in it would be extremely painful or in some cases deadly. Problem was that wasn't the portal she had used. This portal had restricted access, guarded by... well... mostly Godyn, or a Guardian if he was sleeping. The one she left through had been a generic travel fountain, she shouldn't have ended up here.
But there was no time to quibble over how she ended up in the wrong place.
She knew the why she was down there and she didn't want to give Lagrius the pleasure of being the person who trapped her there.
She could go back up if she wanted to, she understood the basics of how this particular portal worked.
She could even put out an S.O.S. flare, even in the Under Realm Godyn would be able to sense it and come to get her. He may have been mad at her, but he wouldn't leave her down here.
But that didn't mean she wanted to call him. He had been so stubbornly arrogant about her leaving in the first place, and she had been caught not even two minutes out from under his watchful eye. She didn't want to prove Godyn's assumptions right either. He'd never let her leave again.
She glowered at Lagrius' unconscious form for a moment before making up her mind. She knew of only one person who could help her get to the Bermuda Triangle without alerting Godyn or anyone else. So she left Lagrius on the ground, storming off towards the tall ebony castle she could make out in the distance.
It was a humorous sight to behold, a pure white Angel marching and muttering to herself as she went, a suitcase rolling on behind her. Oddly enough no one tried to stop her as she waded her way through the torture and confused demons on her way to the castle.
Though she got strange looks no one stopped her at the gate, they even opened the door for her when she got up the impossibly slick stairs. She stomped through the gaudy castle, throwing doors open until she found one of the people she was looking for. It wasn't who she was really looking for, but he'd have to do for right now.
"Eddie!" she shouted on the top of her lungs.
The Evil Dude jumped from his regal gold throne made of the bones of his enemies, scattering grapes from the banquet in front of him all over the floor. He turned to stare at her shocked. "What the... Raelyn?"
It sort of felt better to see that The Evil Dude hadn't been expecting her, but it didn't do anything to quell her rage. Raelyn stomped up to him, she got right in his face to scream: "Send me home!"
The Evil Dude smile shakily and popped a grape in his mouth. "No need to shout Raelyn," he looked her back and forth before asking: "Godyn's not with you, is he?"
Raelyn frowned and folded her arms across her chest. "No."
The Evil Dude smiled coolly at her, his grin wide and toothy. He chuckled lightly at her as if this answer pleased him and once again Raelyn was on edge. "What has you down in my territory anyways?"
"That stupid demon of yours, the one you sent after me, managed to change my destination point." Raelyn growled, folding her arms around her chest. "Thanks for that little annoyance by the way."
The Evil Dude nodded, a silent O on his lips. "Yes, that young kid, I think his name is Logi."
"His name is Lagrius, sheesh Eddie, learn your employees' names," she snarled. The Evil Dude just waved it off.
"Look, I let you have your fun in Germany back in World War II," she started, but was cut off by the Evil Dude's laughter. Raelyn scowled and slapped his shoulder to get his attention once again. "The point is you owe me."
The Evil Dude eyed her for a moment, carefully weighing the options. He stroked his chin thoughtfully.
"Wait a second; you said he changed your destination point. That's an awfully big suitcase to be taking into the Middle Realm. Where were you going today? Running away maybe?"
Raelyn rolled her eyes. "Not that it's any of your business, but I was going on vacation."
The Evil Dude scoffed. "You? Vacation? What did they deny you your promotion again?" he asked, he chuckled at his joke until he caught sight of Raelyn's reddening face and he promptly stopped.
For a moment sincerity washed over her features and Raelyn was reminded that under that evil outer exterior he was actually rather nice when he wanted to be. "Well, then you deserve your vacation, and I won't be the one to stand in the way of it. That ungrateful bitch doesn't deserve your hard work."
"Thank you for understanding. Now please send me to the Bermuda Triangle Resort," she ordered.
The Evil Dude put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her in close. "Come on now Raelyn, I know you can think bigger then that! If you stay here you could have twice the fun, no consequences and no cleansing classes. You could finally let loose and go wild," he offered.
Raelyn glared at him. "I'm not buying it. What's the catch?"
"No catch Ray. You said it yourself, I owe you. Why not let me show you a good time?" he asked his regular charismatic grin on his face. She had let that grin fool her once, she wouldn't let it fool her again.
"And what do I tell the Almighty when I come back reeking of brimstone and sin? Huh? What then? Do You have a plan for that?" she cried shrugging his arm off of her so she could correctly place her hands on her hips and glare at him with a know all glare that just dared him to come up with a solution to this conundrum.
He thought for a moment, his own hands on his hips as he concentrated. He snapped his fingers and a bright smile lit his face.
"How about this? I'll send you back when your vacation time is up. I'll even spread around a rumor that I've kidnapped you, you know, so you won't get in trouble for defecting or something. I'll even let old Godyn come down here and rescue you, I'm sure he'd like to throttle me a bit. It's a win-win for everyone."
Raelyn was honestly surprised. She hadn't expected him to think of a solution that could work. The Evil Dude specialized in cockamamie harebrained schemes that barely worked and almost always exploded in his face. But that... that could work. Granted once Godyn rescued her she'd never be let out of his sight again, but a vacation in a forbidden land where the High Five wouldn't be able to guilt her away from because they wouldn't be able to find her was extremely tempting.
She was faltering and he knew it. "I'm not sure," she whispered. "What about Lucrinda?"
"I'd rather not mention to her that you've been down here," he said with a wince. "You know what I had to do to get her down here, what we all had to promise."
"I know, I know... but I miss her. I haven't seen her since she left," Raelyn whispered.
"That was the deal," he reminded her. There was a moment of silence and then that vicious grin was back on his face and his arm was back around her shoulders.
"But here's what I can do for you. I can get you the best accommodation as far away from the palace as possible. I can get demons to wait on you hand and foot so you'll never want for anything. I can give you a free pass to all our devious attractions, including the Lake, the Torture Ring, the Mountains of Misery and the Pit of Despair."
She looked him up and down. She was caving, she could feel it but she wasn't about to get fooled by that smile. But she kind of liked the idea of being free to do anything she wanted at all, no repercussions. She had a feeling it could be like the old days when she, though she had a hard time remembering the old times, she knew they were miles better than what she had now. And if she stayed down here long enough maybe she could talk to Lucrinda and apologize for what happened or maybe have what happened explained to her because all she really remembered was that it was her fault.
"Fine!" she growled. "But you still owe me... just... not as much."
Behind her the door opened and someone came rushing in. The Evil Dude completely ignored this and instead offered her a hand to shake that she took hesitantly.
"Deal," the Evil Dude said with a large smirk. "No blood binding contract needed."
Suddenly Lagrius popped up beside her, he grabbed a hold of her roughly pulling her away from the Evil Dude.
"I am so sorry Boss!" Lagrius cried. He glared at Raelyn showing off the bruise he had forming under his eye, no doubt from her wicked punch. He turned back to the Evil Dude, a look of grim determination on his face. "My hostage won't get away from me again."
Both Raelyn and the Evil Dude glared at him. Raelyn ripped her arm out of his grasp and turned back to the Evil Dude, determined to ignore Lagrius completely.
"So, Eddie, if I'm not staying here at the castle where am I going to go?"
"Wait! What? You know him? You get to call him Eddie?" Lagrius asked, but his question was ignored by both parties.
"With him of course, he took you he gets to deal with you," he said, gesturing to Lagrius.
Raelyn huffed and rolled her eyes. "Really? You guys don't have a hotel or something?" she asked. The Evil Dude shook his head and she frowned. "I think I'd rather go to the Bermuda Triangle."
The Evil Dude inched in closer to her. "Think of it as a case study. If you stay with him you can learn more about demons and how to destroy us." When she just glared at him he said: "And I promise he won't try to corrupt you."
"Wait what?" Lagrius cried but was once again ignored.
Raelyn huffed again. "Fine, but for the record, I know you're up to something," she growled. She turned back to Lagrius with a sarcastic smile on her face. "It's your lucky day I'm not going to kick your ass and I'm going to stay."
She turned and walked towards the door leaving Lagrius behind. Finally alone he turned back to face the Evil Dude a hopeful smile on his face.
"Can I call you Eddie?" he asked.
"No," the Evil Dude said curtly before pulling him in. "Listen here, you're going to do whatever you have to do to keep her happy, you got that? Wait on her, hand and foot. You. Are. Her. Bitch."
Lagrius frowned and pulled his black shirt out of his boss's hand. He looked as if seeing him for the first time. "I didn't bring her down here for fun, I'm going to corrupt her."
The Evil Dude blinked his eyes. "Yeah... I don't think you should really try to do that, I mean... it'll be really hard..."
"Don't worry," Lagrius interrupted. "I'll figure it out. Raelyn will fall before the month is up!"
"Come on, Lagrius! I want to take in the sights!" she called from the door.
Lagrius turned to her with a growl on his face. "Don't tell me what to do! I'm the kidnapper you do what I say!" he snarled.
The Evil Dude watched them go, mildly surprised that he had managed to swing things his way. Clearly the Almighty had pissed Raelyn off more than he had previously thought, or she was honestly that much of a push over. Either way this would all going to be much easier. He just had to remember the promises he made and somehow keep Lucrinda from finding out what he had done.
