Chapter 17

Raelyn and Salym returned to the White Kingdom and walked right into the strong arms of Godyn.

He had just been given the permission to go and get her, and had immediately gone to the portal to descend into the abyss. He was dressed in his war armor, gilded golden plates covering every inch of him, but as soon as he saw her he clasped her to his chest.

Salym distinctly heard him whisper: "Are you alright?" and when Raelyn confirmed that she was the niceness and the hug stopped then and there. He threw her over his shoulder, despite her kicking and screaming and stormed off.

He took her to the cleansing pools and dropped her in, clothes and all. He left her there alone to allow the healing waters to wash away the darkness that had taken up residence in her heart and mind.

She had almost soaked all the evil away when the Almighty strode into the baths. She looked down at Raelyn with a disappointed stare and her hands on her hips, like she was about to reprimand her.

"Though I am glad you were not completely corrupted, a few questions came to mind."

Raelyn nodded. "And I am not one to stop your questions."

"The Evil Dude has told me he kidnapped you," the Almighty said curtly.

"He did."

"He said he tortured you."

"Not in the conventional sense."

The Almighty paused. "Oh?"

Raelyn thought over her choice of words before speaking again. "He had me bound to a very annoying demon, and then made me work for him."

The Almighty nodded. "What an interesting choice,"

"I do believe Lucrinda may have influenced his decision," Raelyn said, avoiding the Almighty's eyes as she said this. She knew the Almighty hated even the mention of her first daughter's name.

There was a heavy silence and the Almighty cleared her throat. "Yes, well, the two of you were always unnaturally close." Once again the Almighty cleared her throat and then pointed a dark disappointed glare onto the younger Guardian. "You lied to me about where you were going."

"A completely necessary precaution."

"How so?"

"Well, when did you first decide that I needed to be brought back? I bet it wasn't even after two weeks."

The Almighty paused and the two stared each other down. She then began to laugh, leaning in and ruffling Raelyn's now glossy white hair. Normally the Almighty declined to show any form of physical attention to anyone other than Evie and she certainly never attempted to touch Raelyn before.

"It seems your stay in the Abyss has made you stronger. Go your friends are all waiting for you."

The Almighty left Raelyn to get changed and as she did so she realized how unfamiliar it all was for her. The white smock and her shiny halo, they were all so foreign to her now. She thought of how easily she had let her anger corrupt her, how easily those powers she fought so hard to hide had resurfaced when the darkness took over. She had almost chose to stay in the abyss, she had almost wanted to be a demon. Even now, even purified, she wondered if coming back to this place had been worth it.

Raelyn went to the doors, in the uncomfortable and itchy outfit. She expected a few angels on the other side, but when she threw the doors open and heard that booming: "Raelyn!" she knew that everyone was there.

Raelyn smiled at all the faces, surprised that even Arch Angels had come to see if she was okay, though that was presumably because they wanted her to work.

She took one step out of the crowd and she was wrapped up in the arms of Owl who refused to let her go. Everyone crowded in on her to talk to her, ask her questions all at once and she just stared at all of them with a wobbly smile on her face. Raelyn felt the happy tears sting her eyes. For the first time in her life, the White Kingdom appreciated her.

Maybe it was worth it after all.
