Chapter 6
You groaned as you looked up at the ceiling of your room. It was still too early, and after your fit of chaotic painting you had no desire left to do anything. You were left bored and mentally conflicted. If you were to train now, it would tire you out and loosen your grip on Izuku, but if you didn't find a way to entertain your mind you'd just as easily fall helpless to your sleep-deprived mind.
You glanced around your room but found nothing to fulfill your needs. You were out of canvases and you had no scraps of newspaper to paste to the wall. Your eyes glanced over the picture you'd destroyed and your gut twisted violently. Your father would kill you for destroying that picture. It was one of the few things left from your mother.
"Dammit..." you growled. "I'm such a fucking idiot."
You stood and grabbed the painting, shuffling through your drawers and pocketing a lighter you'd lifted off of one of father's lackeys. Rushing out the room, you dashed quickly to remove the painting before your father could see it. At least you could lie about losing the photo. If he saw you defiled it by choice then you were as good as dead.
You left the facility and ducked out of the first alley you could. Checking both ways, you rushed across the street then headed towards and old parking lot. Grass struggled up through the cracked pavement, the lot having seen many parties and vehicles over hundreds of season changes. You scanned the space, collecting stray papers and small sticks to help your cause.
Finding a spot tucked into the corner, away from civilization, you scrapped together a weak fire. After coaxing the small flame to a decent burn, you lowered the tip of your canvas into the blaze and watched as the flames ate the parchment. Sitting, you eyes watched the flames consume your spur of the moment piece into a thick ash.
You were quiet as it rolled over the photo, curling its edges first before completely destorying what you could see. "I guess that's one less thing to avoid." You muttered.
You started to stand, but chills rolled up your spine and you froze. Looking back towards the direction of the hideout, you saw no familiar faces. Friendly or otherwise.
"I'm not an idiot." You announced to the open area. "I'm aware that you're watching me. Either spare me the hassle and come on out, or I'll get you myself."
Nothing happened, no response of any sort. Your brow furrowed with suspicion. Knowing you couldn't just sit forever, and the night was getting chillier as the fire died away. Once again, you started to stand.
Your eyes swept your surrounding cautiously as you balanced on the ball of your feet and prepared to flee if need be. A flicker of light peeked through the dark and you turned towards it just as a figure raced towards you with tremendous speed. It caught you off guard, much to your distaste.
Driving into your stomach primarily, you folded in half as they knocked you to the ground and planted a foot on your chest. You growled maliciously, despite not quite knowing your assailant, and grabbed the offender's ankle. With a sharp movement you threw their leg to the right, making them wobble enough to free yourself.
Rolling from their immediate range, you bounced to your feet and whipped aroumd on the stranger, a wide kick cracking towards their face. They stopped your attack, even harnessing the momentum to their advantage to swing you around and disorient you. After seeing their calculated movements, you were less surprised and irritated. You stopped moving completely as you looked at him and began to laugh.
"Oh! Nice try No Might!" You teased, eyes adjusting to the dark and revealing Izuku to you.
Your eyes glimmered purple, reflecting in his eyes and telling you that you were still influencing him. At least you could guarentee he wasn't rogue. "You almost had me too!" You bellowed. "You really need to work on your capturing tactics Mighty Jr."
Izuku scowled, his sharp glare towards you only stoking your laughter more. No more sentimental crap. When the newbies were around, it was all villain mode.
"I saw you sneak out and thought to follow you this time." He said bluntly. "By the way, you shouldn't announce your knowing I was there. It ruins your advantage."
"You already have advantage with all your studying." You rolled your eyes, waving it off with a relaxed gesture. "So what if you got one more."
Izuku approached you slowly and you folded your arms behind you innocently, rocking on the balls of your feet. "So~" You hummed in amusement. "Were you satisfied with your venture from home? Have you been thoroughly entertained by my midnight escapades?"
"I can't say I have been. I was hoping to find more data about you, maybe even solve the in and outs of your complex inner workings." His words by themselves seemed harmless, but as he spoke he seemed domineering.
He moved closer to you, his posture radiating confidence and something else. Usually you didn't mind being so close to those under your influence, and normal people avoided even being with feet of you. However with Izuku you couldn't help but recall how much stronger his mind was, how you had to reclaim your ability more often to keep a tight hold on his leash. He was more free than the other company you played puppeteer to. His green orbs focused against your own and he brought his nose closer and closer to yours. You didn't flinch, but for a moment your breath caught. You prayed that he didn't notice. "What exactly have you been doing aside from our training sessions?" He asked, tone low and inquisitive.
"You were following me. You tell me." You sang teasingly.
"I may be able to predict your actions, but I have no place to read your motives. You are my only insight as to your mind." Izuku combated.
You feigned consideration and giggled. "Nah, I think you'll just have to suffer with your curiosity."
"Oh?" He lulled, lifting a hand upwards to your cheek. His eyes traced the movements of his hand. You smirked with your own cocky attitude. His own lips curled into a mischievous grin as his hand began to hum with power. Your eyes widened slightly and you curved a brow.
"Is this truly how you plan for this to go?" You asked. It truly did alarm you, despite your cool stature. Izuku had more freedom than you knew. That was a problem. "You really shouldn't make habit of threatening your superiors."
"I'm not asking much. I'm just curious is all." He said, mocking your innocently sarcastic tone.
You were silent for a moment, too stubborn to move away from him. Keeping his hand against your cheek, his entire arm buzzed with energy. "Okay, I'll confess." You chirped, "But only for a trade."
He seemed interested, offering just a quirked eyebrow for the chance he was listening. The night air blew a chill up your spine, as though to set the mood of a foreboding moment. "I'll explain my private thoughts, in exchange for a kiss." You said confidentially.
He seemed taken aback, stumbling slightly away. For a moment he looked like the flustered boy you'd initially seen at U.A. "What?" You giggled, "It's just a peck. Call me cruel but I just love watching tough guys squirm."
He seemed annoyed by your assumption and smiled coldly. "I'll accept your offer, but know you'll be disappointed with the results."
"Oh don't be so hard on yourself." You retorted.
He grimaced, making you laugh. His quirk began to fade away and you sat on the ground with your legs folded beneath you. Soon Izuku followed suit, facing you with his entertained expression. "Pick your questions wisely." You said, "Our time is limited before I'm expected back for my morning routine."
Izuku chuckled, making your heart feel just a tad bit fluttery. "What were you doing just now?" He started, motioning to the now dead fire.
"Disposing of evidence." You joked.
Izuku frowned. You sighed, rolling your eyes before elaborating. "In my most recent spur of the moment paintings, I damaged a picture that I had in my room. It was taken in the hospital room the day I was born. Father, me... and Mom... he'll kill me for losing it, worse if he knows I did it by choice. So I burned the evidence and elected to just tell him it got lost in my room."
"You want to lie to one of the most dangerous people in Japan, maybe the world?" Izuku laughed.
"Leader of the League of Villains or not, he's still a man. People are easy to deceive if you have the right skills." You explained.
Seeming satisfied with your answer, Izuku grew quiet as he reconfigured the pieces of your puzzle yet again in an attempt to see your frame of mind. "If that's true, then who am I to say that your not lying to me now?"
"That's the paradox. It's on you whether or not to trust me when you do." You said, no sarcasm to bite your words this time.
He stole a look at you, glimpsing the moment of melancholy. He almost seemed sympathetic, his green eyes soft as he looked at you. In seconds they became cold once more, like he was hiding his emotion. "Alright, I understand." He continued. "One more question though."
"Shoot!" You chirped.
"Who were you talking to in the park the other day?"
You were silent, not knowing how he would react to you dropping your emotional baggage on his distressed mother. You hesitated, trying to find a way to word it in a way that wouldn't be so deadly. "I was talking to a stranger, you know just someone who caught me in a bad moment. The heroes in this world may be a bunch of shitballs, but the citizens aren't all so bad. She was really sweet to me." Your voice shrank away and you looked up to the night sky.
"She?" He pushed. "It's not common for women her age to be wandering about at such a time alone. Are you sure it wasn't arranged?"
You scoffed. "Please! Why would I risk my entire's life worm by leaking secrets to some stranger?! I'm not stupid. She was putting up missing papers, for someone you know actually."
You offered a small grin, wondering if he would catch on or if you'd just be able to savor his obstinence. He processed what you said, more likely than not determining if you were just bluffing.
"Was it by chance, my mom?" He asked, Small Might revealing his true identity without faltering. The purple of your quirk glimmered in his eyes and he hissed, now seeming annoyed by the thought of his mother.
"I couldn't possibly know if it was your mother." You said. "Why do you ask?"
"That old woman is a fool that's why. You're better off confiding to me." He growled.
Your interest peaked as you looked at him. "Pretty harsh words against your own mother." You mused.
His expression flickered again, settling with disgust before hr continued. "She gave up on me when I was a kid. She only supported me now because she knew I had the power to destroy her otherwise."
You frowned, crossing your arms over your chest and looking away. "I wouldn't be so cruel. She really cares about you." You hummed.
His eyes seemed hopeful, but didn't last long. "Whatever, we both know that we shouldn't be trusting outsiders right now."
"Yeah..." You sighed. "It's too bad. Otherwise I could tell your mother you were okay. She'd stop worrying so much.
Izuku seemed regretful now, eyes unfocused as he thought about his mom. As he thought, you stood with a snicker and began to slink back home.
"Wait!" Izuku called behind you. "I owe you a kiss, don't I?" He asked.
You froze, not particularly wanting to kiss him. You looked back at him and nostalgia clouded his eyes. You smiled gently and turned away once more. "Don't worry Izuku, I'll take it as a favor for another time. See ya later!"
He merely nodded, leaving him in doubt and you with a strange sense of irony.
