Chapter 20

Jackson's P.O.V
Why do my eyes keep finding themselves staring at him? At Seto? I stare into the campfire. Amelia fall asleep beside me and Amarisa is asleep as well, Mason is asleep as well. It's just the two of us; Seto and I. I bite my bottom lip, it's dark and quiet. We are going to leave in the morning, but Seto hasn't really spoken since he got back. He has been shut off from us and Amarisa was staying by him the entire time until she fell asleep. My eyes look over at him.

"You okay Seto?" I finally ask.

"Yeah." He said. I look at his eyes, trying to read them, trying to read his face but I can't read anything other then something is bothering him. I grip some grass in my hands.

"Are you sure?" I ask looking down at my hands. He pauses, and he pauses for a long time. I look at him concerned.

"Actually.....I wanted to tell you all something that Sean said to me that I haven't told you guys." Seto said. He looks down at his hands and he is fidgeting with grass in my hands.

"What is it?" I ask him.

"It's about the restore spell. Sean said that it will kill me, is that true?" Seto asks. My eyes widen a little. Of course Sean told him! I look down. At first I was on board with Seto doing the spell...but now....I'm not anymore. Ever since what happened last night I have been....staring at him more. I don't know what's wrong with me. Why do I like him being close to me? Why do I love his eyes on me? Why do I want his attention? My eyes widen, wait a second. I know what's going on.

"I-I...I just didn't know how to tell you that. We need to heal the islands." I said. Seto nods.

"Yeah...Yeah we do." Seto said. I look at Seto. I can't let my feelings overcome my judgement no matter how cute or amazing he is.

"But we can find a different way." I said. Seto looks at me.

"How Jackson? I thought the restore spell was the only way." Seto said. It is the only way, but I don't want him to die. Seto shouldn't have to sacrifice himself for a world he barely even knows. I crawl over to him. He looks at me.

"We'll find another way." I said. I shiver as a cold breeze hits me. I put my arms around me.

"Are you cold?" Seto asks.

"Little bit." I said. A few moments later and I feel his jacket rest around my shoulders. I feel blush crept up my neck. I look at the fire. I grab the jacket and pull it around my body and his jacket is so warm. I look at him. He has a long sleeve black t-shirt on. "Seto you don't have to give me-"

"Keep it for tonight Jackson. I'm use to living in the cold." Seto said.

"Alright." I said kind of quiet. I move over back to my spot but that doesn't help me either. I look at him again. My eyes trail him more then they should and I blush when his eyes catch mine. I look at the ground in front of me. His jacket smells like him; and yes I don't know why but I did get the chance to see what he smells like and he smells nice. I snuggle myself into his jacket. His jacket is so much warmer then mine, mine is so thin wind can easily blow through it. His actually has some fabric to stop that. I rest my head on my knees.

"If you want to sleep Jackson, I'll stay up." Seto said. I look at him.

"You sure?" I ask. He nods. "Okay, good night I guess."

"Night." He said. I lay down next to Amelia and wrap his jacket tightly around me and close my eyes, waiting for myself to drift off into darkness.

Prince Seto's P.O.V
I stare into the fire as Jackson lays down. I bite my bottom lip back. I..I don't know what to do. I mean I want to restore the islands, but....Jackson moves a little. I look over at her. She sits up slowly and sighs.

"Can't sleep?" I ask. She shakes her head. She looks at me.

"Wanna spar?" She asks. I tilt my head a little, that was random. "A rematch, we never got the chance to know who won our fight when we first met." Oh that fight. She takes off my jacket and tosses it to me. I slip it on. "I'll go easy on you since your hurt."

"Okay, don't go easy on me." I said. We get up and get away from the campsite. Far enough to still be able to see it. Jackson faces me.

"Why not?" She asks.

"That's like me going easy on you because you're a girl." I said. She narrows her eyes at me. "So don't go easy on me." She crosses her arms.

"Alright. Let's begin." She said. She disappears instantly. My eyes scan the area instantly. She's gonna use her ender magic willy nilly. She teleport beside me and goes for a hit that I block. I grab her shoulder and take out her knee pushing down on her shoulder and she falls onto the ground. She yelps and then looks at me. "Why don't you use magic in a fight?"

"I'm better at hand to hand combat in a fight then my magic. And I don't want to hurt you." I said.

"Alright, I'll make you use your magic." She said. She then takes out my legs and I fall backwards onto my back. She teleports away. I sit myself up. She appears in front of my and grabs my shoulder pushing my back down on my back with a knife on my throat. She smiles. "Isn't this familiar?" I hit her wrist grabbing it and pushing it away. I kick against the ground making us switch spots so I'm above her and I pin her wrists above her head.

"So is this." I said. She disappears. I stand up just as she attacks. I dodge her punch and put my arm around her waist pushing against her and grabbing her shoulder. I pull her back against my chest. Jackson grabs my arms.

"How do you know where I'm gonna appear?" Jackson asks.

"Instinct I guess. You're defenses aren't as strong as your attacks." I said. She elbows me in the gut and I let go of her. She dodge another punch and grab her fist with my other hand on my stomach. "I rely on instinct, you rely on your magic in a fight. Your magic won't always be there to save you. Especially in hand to hand combat." I spin her arm around and flip her. Her back hits the ground and she groans. "After a while your competitor will be able to tell where you'll appear next." She looks at me. She disappears again. I look above me where she appears. I move to the side and she hits the ground again.

"Well you grew up with mortals." Jackson said pulling herself up.

"And you grew up with wizards. Glad to know we're clear about where we both came from." I said.

"Instinct isn't always gonna help in a fight." Jackson said.

"Do you not trust your instincts?" I ask.

"I do, sometimes. But most of the time it's wrong." Jackson said.

"You have bad instincts then."  I said. She crosses her arms at me. "Your word not mine."

"Then you have good instincts then." She said. She disappears. Let's see. I close my eyes, she's gonna appear behind me. I turn around and she appears there and meets my eyes. "Wh-What." She disappears again. I focus again, I can feel this sort of magical energy shifting through the air, and she is there when it is there. And it's to the left of me. I turn left and grab her wrist just as she appears. "Stop doing that!" She disappears.

"Doing what?" I ask. Behind again. I turn around meeting her eyes. Her eyes are widen.

"How are you doing that?" She asks.

"Because he can sense the same magic energy I can." Someone said. We both look over at Mason.

"You can do that too?" Jackson asks.

"Sometimes. Mine's not as strong as his energy sense though." Mason said. Energy sense?

"What's energy sense?" I ask. Mason walks to me.

"It's a lot like my own magic. You can sense magic energy that linger in the air making teleportation magic ineffective as an attack measure to you." Mason said. I smile at Jackson whose mouth is open looking shocked. "Arcane wizards have energy sense, that's why they are so hard to sneak up on."

"That's so unfair." Jackson said.

"But it's so right." I said. Jackson smacks my arm.

"That's why he knows where I'm gonna appear next." Jackson said. Mason nods.

"Well we know you can control the fire element and have energy sense. Anything else you can control? Arcane wizards can control more then one magic type." Mason said.

"I have circle magic, and I can control the weather a little." I said.

"You can control the weather? So you can make a storm come?" Jackson asks. I nod.

"But I haven't exactly gained full control of that yet." I said.

"Why does he get all the cool abilities?" Jackson asks.

"Arcane wizards are the top dogs. They are suppose to be OP." Mason said.

"I don't see a point in a sparring match then since you can sense me anyway." Jackson said.

"Yeah." Mason said before he turns away from us walking back to camp. Jackson looks at me and chuckles.

"You know Seto, you really walk like a prince." Jackson said. I look at her.

"Being as I grew up as a prince...wait how does a prince walk?" I ask.

"Head held up, chest out, and long strides." Jackson said.

"The royalty life isn't all as privileged as everyone thinks it is." I said.

"Really? Because you aren't acting like a royal pain I thought you would be." Jackson said. I cross my arms.

"Yes because there's this thing called I'm not six years old anymore." I said. Jackson chuckles. She disappears and I turn the left just as she reappears. I catch her fist. "Just give up on that Jackson. The teleporting ain't gonna work." I let go of her fist. She lowers her arm. Then she suddenly tackles me and grabs my wrists pinning them above my head. She sits down on my waist straggling me.

"Gotcha." Jackson said.  She smiles and I return it. She lets go of my wrists and put her hands on the ground next to my head.

"You gonna get off me?" I ask.

"Oh right. Sorry." Jackson said before she moves off me and sits down next to me. I sit up. "Um...you know you don't have to do the restore spell." I look at her. Well I don't know any other arcane wizards. "We can find someone else to do it."

"How?" I ask.

"I don't know." She said. She looks at me. "But it doesn't have to be you Seto. We can find another arcane wizards to do the spell."

"Jackson." I said. She looks at the ground. "Which would be easiest?" I put my fingers under her chin and lift her head up so our eyes meet. "Finding another wizard or just having me do it?"

"Finding another wizard." Jackson said.

"No Jackson. Having me do it." I said. I drop my hand from her chin. She shakes her head.

"But..But that's so unfair." Jackson said.

"What's unfair?" I ask.

"Risking your life for a world you don't even know." Jackson said. I feel her hand go on top of mine. "I wanted to show you Laendur in all it's glory. I wanted you to meet some wizard friends of mine. But you can't do that when you're dead." Tears welt in her eyes.

"Hey. Hey." I said wiping a tear from her cheek. "Just seeing you guys is enough for me. Seeing that I'm not alone like I always thought I was if enough for me to see even if I don't make it through the restore spell." She puts one of her arms around my left arm and puts her forehead against my left shoulder as I feel her hold my hand. I feel blush crept up my neck.

"What will happen to Amarisa if you die?" She asks.

"I don't know." I said. I see the sunrise starting. "We have to go Jackson." I feel her tense up. She doesn't move, she just stays still for a few moments. Then she lets go of my hand and arm.

"O-Okay. Let's go." She said.
