Chapter Two

Corny

One thing I hated about life was its unpredictable moments.

My parents had decided we were going to move again. I hated moving. To me, you leave a small piece of your soul in the place that you left. Your house, school, coffee shop, stuff like that. This was the fourth time we were moving. I figured my parents would finally stop after the third time, but nope.

We were leaving once again.

And this time, we're moving back to where we lived the first time. Where I grew up. I didn't want to believe it. I had finally settled into this town. I had great friends, a great school, and a great hangout spot where I could tell my jokes.

That I know everyone loved.

I would have to start all over again and I didn't want to.

"Go away," I said, my voice muffled by my pillow. I was in the middle of a nice nap, but my little brother woke me up to ask for food.

"But I'm hungry," he whined.

"You don't have to ask me for food. Whenever you want it, raid the kitchen," I said, pointing at my door.

"I usually do that with you. Want to come with me?" he said.

"No, Jace, I don't," I said. "Wait. Of course I do!" I darted up and threw on a pair of shorts before we ran down the stairs and into the kitchen. I started grabbing snacks, while Jace got sodas out of the fridge. This wasn't something unusual we did. We basically did it everyday. The only weird thing is that Jace thinks he has to ask for the food, when I could care less. All he has to do is get me and we pig out.

After getting everything, we ran into the living room and flopped down on the couch. I opened up a big bag if chips and shoved some in my mouth. About a minute later, someone came in to ruin the moment.

"Boys! You know that's unhealthy!" Mom said, trying to take our snacks.

"No it's not! It's perfectly normal for two growing boys!" Jace said, hugging the chips close to his chest.

"Yeah!" I said with a mouth full of food. Our Dad walked in the moment after I said that.

"Dad, Mom is saying eating food is unhealthy!" Jace whined.

I swallowed my food before saying, "It's normal! Everyone needs to eat!"

Dad sighed. "You can't be eating that many snacks for breakfast," he said while rubbing his forehead.

"It's okay to pig out every once in a while!"

Mom took the opportunity to snatch the snacks. "I'm confiscating these." She walked away quickly.

I stood up before heading back to my room without another word. Why would she take my snacks? We all knew she was going to eat them herself, anyway. Why not just eat with us?

Since we were moving sometime later today, I finished packing before bringing my boxes out to the moving truck. When I finished with that, I sat down on one side of the truck. I took out my cell phone and pondered whether or not I should call my girlfriend. My fingers seemed to have their own brains, as they scrolled through my short list of contacts and called Patricia.

"Hello?" she said when she picked up.

"Hey, Pat, it's me."

"Hey, Corny. What's up?"

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "We have to break up," I said. I'd rather get straight to the point then beat around the bush.

"W-what?" she said.

"I'm moving and I don't believe in long distance relationships. I'm sorry," I said.

"Fine! That's just fine," she said, her voice cracking.

"I'm sorry," I said. I felt bad because I knew how much she liked me. I mean, who doesn't like me?

"Whatever. I bet there's another girl anyway," she said.

"What?" I said.

"Bye, Corny," she said before hanging up.
I sighed. Why were girls so complicated? I mean, I get that they have their reason for doing things, but they didn't have to be such a diva about it.

After the phone call, I ended up being really bored. So, I did what I do best.

I took a nap.

Dad woke me up sometime later saying it was time to go. Although I didn't want to, I obviously didn't have a choice. I put on the shirt that Dad threw at me and climbed into the passenger seat of the truck. I wanted to try and enjoy the scenery while we drove, but I ended up falling asleep again. This time when Dad woke me up, we were in front of our old house.

"It's the same as I remember it," Mom said. She gazed over the windows, the roof, everything.

"I know, Janet. I can't believe we ever left this place," Dad said.

"Wow, you think that now?" I said. They ignored me and started unpacking the boxes from the truck. I had gone inside and claimed what my parents said was my old room. It was the next biggest room in the house; I wasn't going to pass it up.

After I put some of my boxes in there, I went back outside and took a break. I leaned on the side of the truck and took out my phone, but it was dead. Stupid phone. I decided to just enjoy the sun for a bit.

After about five minutes, I heard someone say, "Um...Hi there."

I looked to my right and saw a girl about my age standing there. She had brown, thick curls, pale skin, and striking green eyes. I smiled at her before saying, "Hey, beautiful. You're looking mighty fine today."

She cleared her throat. "My mom wants to know if you guys would like to come over for dinner tomorrow night," she said.

I shot her a wink. "If it's for you, I'll do anything." I'm not kidding. I'd do anything to see this beauty again.

"Well, we live right across the street from you guys," she said.

"Cool. So, do you have a name or can I call you mine?" I said. No girl could resist my corny jokes, so I decided to shoot one at her.

Her cheeks flushed right away. "Um...M-my name is Margaret," she said. Hmm...That name sounds familiar.

"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. I'm Corny," I said, finishing with a smile. If this girls smile was as beautiful as she was, I'd definitely want to see her all the time.

Margaret let out a laugh. Wow, it really was as beautiful as she was. "Corny? Really?"

"Yep. I'm known for my corny jokes and pickup lines, so everyone calls me Corny."

"What's your real name?" she asked.

I decided to tease her a little bit. There's no harm in that right? "Ah ah ah," I said, wagging my finger in the air. "You must not know until we become lovers."

She sighed, then stifled a laugh. "Then I guess I'll never know your real name."

I put my hands on my heart, faking pain. "Ouch, babe, you wound me." Oops. I didn't mean to say that. Oh well, I'll just stick with it.

Margaret crossed her arms, then raised her eyebrows. Man, she was really killing me here. "Babe? Ha, your funny."

I smirked. "Which is why I'm called Corny." Did she seriously forget already?

She just rolled her eyes and started walking away. I chased after her, actually willing to tell her my real name. "Hey, babe!" I called. She turned around and ended up bumping right into me. My arms shot out and steadied her before she fell and her cheeks flushed again.

"Y-yes?" she stuttered. Ah, the affect I have on women. Especially pretty women.

"My real name is Vincent," I said. I winked at her before turning and walking back to the truck. Margaret...That name sounded really familiar, important.

I sighed. I was going to figure this out, one way or another.

Yay, chapter two is now up! Sorry it took so long for an update. Also, I'm sorry if it's too short.

I also need ideas for cast members. I was thinking along the lines of Emmy Rossum for Margaret, but I don't know about Corny.

He has blonde hair and brown eyes. Any suggestions?

P.S. This was just the same thing chapter one except there was a little more back story for Corny.
