|08| Rumours, just...rumours
"LIGHTSABER FIGHTTT" bellowed Jordan, leaping off his bed. Alex ducked and rolled in one smooth movement, avoiding the saber that nearly 'chopped' her in half.
He flicked his wrist, the saber neatly rounding before it grazed the rug on the floor. Although the build was strong, he was careful not to damage. Not his precious wee saber. Alex cackled to herself and shrieked as Bear's blade flashed down before her. Her hand scrabbled under Bear's bed for the hilt of her lightsaber as her thoughts lead her back to earlier that morning, and their adventure in the rest of Galaxy's Edge.
Day three of Disney World, Orlando.
"Bear! Jordan! Your door is open and it is about to slam close on you and leave you in Medora if you don't get our buts back!" Alex hollered into the doorway, waiting for the panting and footsteps that eventually came.
As soon as the boys tumbled into the living part of their hotel suite, Alex let go on her hold on the portal-door and slumped into the couch.
"Foooood." she moaned desperately.
"Yes!" cheered Jordan, hoisting her up. "Food indeed, Alexandra."
Breakfast was much needed - her energy was sapped from holding the door open for so long and food, especially carbs, was the best solution. Even though Bear and Jordan had eaten at the Ronnigan's place, both boys had a double breakfast. Jordan still hadn't learnt his lesson and was shovelling food in faster than anyone there. Bear was a bit more paced knowing they were going to be riding the Millenium Falcon and their stomachs would not be happy as they barrelled through space.
Her plated was stacked high with toast, hash browns, eggs, bacon and sausages. Future Alex would just have to deal with possible throwing-up in the horizon because she didn't want to fall asleep whilst on the Falcon ride. Bear and Jordan were jabbering on about the Ronnigans and the gifts they'd promised to bring them. Dix was silent again at the mention of families, and Alex finally decided to broach the subject.
"So...Dix. How was everything with your visit to your parents?"
"They want me to come back to Medora." Dix replied flatly, her voice monotone with a hint of anger. "I said no."
"Oh." Alex fumbled for words, but nothing came out of her mouth.
Dix savagely stabbed a chunk of sausage off Jordan's plate and he didn't even complain. Just a squeak of pain. "Apparently there's rumours of an assasination attempt on me. Rumours."
"But wouldn't you be safer here? Unless someone is Chosen like Alex, they won't be able to get here?" Bear put forward, his eyebrows knitting together in thought.
"Their point exactly. What if there is someone out there who can do it? We didn't find out the extent of Alex's gifts for like, half a year, no offence, but there's the possibility." Dix threw her hands up in frustration, nearly sending a spray of hot coffee over then.
"But..." Alex trailed off a gobsmacked expression stuck to her face.
Dix didn't speak for the rest of breakfast, throughout the bus ride to Galaxy's Edges, and for the first five minutes of their presence in the theme park in which she bought three cups of green milk and angrily chugged them down. The redhead tossed the plastic cups into the trash, cracked her knuckles and then smiled sweetly at them.
"Let's go ride the Falcon, shall we?"
In fear of the angry princess, the other three scuttled along behind her as they reached the Falcon. Alex regretted that she didn't have the time to gape again as they were dragged on board, flashing their pases by and being guided into an outpost tower beside it that served as a landing port official. She caught a last glimpse of the tall towering spires of blac-grey rock that the outpost was named after before ducking her head.
They were in a large room that had been carved right out of the ride of the massive hunk of rock that naturally formed a landing pad. A walkway ran around a rectangular room, the middle offering a view of a ship's engine. Alex ran her hand over the cracked yellow paint on the banister, craning her head to look through the windows framed with a rusty red colour.
The walkways floated everywhere, thick cables and wires running from balcony to balcony, massive warehouse lights beaming down from above. Alex risked a glance to check on Dix, sighing in relief at the calm expression on the princess's face. There was a constant hum of the engine, blending in with quiet chatter. Eventually, they were led into the Falcon, the curves padded with white fabric, the resting area and spare space occupied by workers or other riders milling around.
It was easy to tell who was working there, from their puffy jackets ranging from orange to blue in colour, deep grey cargo pants and ribbed tops. Some even wore thinner versions of bomber hats to match the colour of their puffy vests. From there, they had a few minutes to snoop around the interior of the falcon, the rugged ship-shap look mirror to the way it had been made in the movies, with a few adjustments.
Two other people, a couple by the looks of it and the Core Four were shepherded into a corridor of the Falcon. The two girls introduced themselves as Maya and Kay while they were waiting. Alex introduced herself, Bear, Dix and Jordan following suit and their conversation took flight. The jabbering stopped as a voice crackled out of the old TV unit inserted into the TV.
Quickly, he introduced himself as space pirate Hondo Ohnaka, explaining that he'd cut a deal with Chewie for use of the Falcon. His instruction went past at lightning speed, talking about how he would guide them on a secret mission to bring back loot. Hondo quickly got flustered then realised they had to be on their way and ushered them on, the circular door sliding to the side with a release hiss. The lights from underneath the grills on the floor seemed to flare even brighter.
During their talk with Kay and Maya, Alex had discovered the former wanted to be one of the gunners, the latter a pilot. They'd come to a unanimous decision that Alex and Maya would be the pilots, Kay and Jordan the gunners, and Bear and Dix as flight engineers. It just so happened the cards passed out before they entered the cockpit were mostly to the preferences and it only took a few hushed swaps and childish giggles on both parts.
Alex and Maya settled into the two seats at the front, comfortable but well-worn pilot chairs and buckled on their belts. They were told to tug on the short yellow straps to secure everything as the beeping and the noises increased frantically. The staff member left the cockpit with just one last instruction;
"Listen to Hondo and get out of here, quickly!"
Almost immediately after the doors wooshed close, Alex felt the ground below her rumble and slowly rise. Hondo snapped out an order to the flight engineers and Dix and Bear swiftly retaliated, completing his order. Through the view of the dim lighting in the cockpit, Alex could see through the nose of the cockpit, the glass offering a view of the outpost sprawled out before them.
Jolted out of her daze, Ohnaka's next set of instructions involved the pilots.
"Right pilot, push the flashing button to take off!" Maya dealt with that, and the ship rose even higher above the Black Spire Outpost, the bird's eye view breathtaking.
"Pilot on the left, move your joystick left and right to steer the ship—" Alex's reflexes moved her quickly to clamp onto the joystick, guiding it slowly but sure out of the landing bag. Chewie's roar interrupted Hondo, who shot back, "Yes, I was just getting to that. Pilot on the right, full back on the stick to fly up, and forward to fly down."
Maya nodded, to herself, Alex thought, as they swerved neatly through the spires of rock and lush green land below. Alex and Maya both sent each other confident glares, ready to work together to pilot the Falcon to victory.
A few enemy ships that Ohnaka had pointed out from afar earlier now swooped in, Hondo yelling "Weapons are now online. Gunners, do your thing!"
Alex could hear Kay and Jordan mashing the buttons, firing blue blasts out towards enemy crafts. Mesmerised, Alex almost blocked out Hondo's next order. "Left pilot, hit the boosters!" The blue button in front of her flashed brightly and Alex slammed her fist down on it. The Falcon surged forwards with new speed, forcing the crew back into their seats as they shot through the sky and entered space, narrowly missing another ship.
"Right pilot, make the jump to lightspeed...now!" Maya reacted instantly, slowly moving the control lever forwards as the light lit up around it. The lighting in the pit darkened again as the lights grew brighter. Kay and Jordan had a rest now, but Dix and Bear were still sorting out issues respective to their engineer positions. The world outside the cockpit flashed white as the entered hyperspace and the ship hurtled through, rocking from side to side as blues and purples melted with the white light.
A vortex of sorts opened up, swirling with no particular destination before everything glared whiet again and faded to have their course locked onto the planet in front of them. Autopilot must have taken control momentarily because the joystick wrenched itself out of Alex's grasp and directed them straight through the sky traffic. Jordan and Kay were on now, blue bolts shooting from the left and red from the right. Autopilot shut off once they were headed on some highway, Hondo yelling encouragement echoed by Chewie's roars as lasers blasted past, Dix and Bear accounting for hits they'd taken.
Maya and Alex worked seamlessly to keep the ship together and moving fluidly. Ohnaka groaned loudly, "They're onto us!" The ship rattled as it took a bad hit, "Take evasive action!"
Uh, what is evasive action? Alex swerved them from left to right on impulse, hoping that it was the right path. More TIE fighters sprung up from nowhere, but Jordan and Kay took care of them quickly.
Hondo seemed to have spotted what he wanted because his voice rose elatedly, "Ah, there it is! After that plane!"
Alex's eyes narrowed as she focused on said plane, steering the ship through a rectangular tunnel with glowing lights rimming it.
"Excellent!" Ohnaka had just praised the engineers for their quick response, rapping out an order for the gunners right after that.
"Woah!" he cried as the Falcon bounced up and down, "Pilots, hit the bra-keess." The ship screeched to a loud halt on a circle of platform outlined by glowing blue. Hondo took a deep breath as their quarry jerked out of reach. "Okay, that could have gone much wors—"
"OKAY IT'S MUCH WORSE." he bellowed as the ground gave way under the ship, the Falcon plummeting down another, circular shaped tunnel. The plane they were chasing snagged on the sides but the Falcon continued down, bouncing up and down on the floor with another horrible screech of metal against metal. Alex clapped her hands over her ears as the plane finally came down, toppling over to reveal what they had been chasing.
Hondo cackled good naturedly. "Hahaha, you got one! Now power up the ship." The Falcon groggily climbed a fair few feet in the air as Ohnaka carried on. "You see just as I promised my friends. Now that the Resistance has what they need, I think there is something for Hondo. Line up behind that train so we can harpoon them."
Alex and Maya had their trajectory lined up perfectly, leaving Dix and Bear to fire the harpoons on time.
"Yes, keep bashing those controls!" commended Ohnaka, "Hey, hey keep shooting!" The guns fired twice as fast with renewed pace and Maya gently steered the ship up, Alex taking the brunt of the work swerving left and right to dodge shots and keep on the train.
"Yes, yes, YES! We got it! I will grab it, you keep up with the train and wait for my call to get out of here." instructed Hondo. Alex struggled to keep the Falcon on line as it shook and rattled with every hit and blast. "Now! Fire the missiles at the train, hurry."
There was a short pause between when Kay and Jordan set off the missiles in which nothing happened at all. Alex frowned, then recoiled sharply as the train erupted into white light. "Watch out, the Star Destroyer is collapsing." warned Hondo.
"I think I could tell." grumbled Maya, just loud enough for Alex to hear and laugh at.
"Left pilot...hit the boosters...now!" Alex thumped the boosters button at his call as they just missed a TIE fighter, the Falcon was yanked up into the cloudy air as Hondo's ship escorted them through the orange tinted gas clouds.
"We made it, hahah! Now, let's get out of here. Right pilot, let's go." Maya pushed the lever for hyperspace forwards and they leapt into lightspeed once again. They were thrown out of the cosmic tunnel to navigate a small meteor field that rotated around the planet. "Chewie will pilot you in remotely. Good job crew, you got two containers of coaxial. This will greatly help the Resistance."
Chewie roared in approval as the ship neatly curved around the landing bay and settled down, hissing as the landing gear braced their landing.
"Crap on a cracker...." Alex let out a long breath and Hondo talked about profits. Of course he would.
"I think my fingers are gonna be stuck like this forever." moaned Jordan, exaggerating the clawed pose his hand was in.
"Then you won't be able to hold your lightsaber." Dix said dryly, though there was a twinkle of mischief in her eyes.
"Oh, why am I always bullied by you heartless people?"
A/N: iM SORRY IDK WHY I CANT GET TO THE POINT lmaooo also this chapter is kinda longer than normal. I havent actually ridden the Falcon i just used my good friend youtube to help me :) uh, until next week? Also i was so dumb and i deleted the summary i made for the sequel of mos, but like. It probably would have changed anyways.
