❦ story ❦
rainpaw took after his mother.
much like the rogue-like magpiefire, rainpaw had a stinging tongue that he carefully concealed from authority figures. he didn't hesitate to push his weight around, and he seemed to enjoy telling others what to do, even reprimanding peonypaw for choosing a so-called weak path. to the chagrin of the apprentices, he didn't act up when he knew there were warriors watching and rarely got into trouble for his verbal abuse.
rainpaw was close to no one, not even his siblings. with jaguarkit being constantly segregated from the others by magpiefire and peonykit always having her weird dreams, the three grew up in separate worlds from one another, growing more and more estranged as they grew older.
rainpaw didn't care.
before he'd even opened his eyes, he always fought for the top: fought to take more milk than his siblings, for the most comfortable place to sleep. as an apprentice, he fought to be the most powerful battler. rainpaw's life was an endless uphill climb- the climb to power- and he gladly welcomed it.
rainpaw had not a single friend in his lifetime, but that was okay with him. the path to success was a lonely one, anyway.
then rainpaw's ambitions got even bigger. he didn't just want control over the other apprentices. he'd never be satisfied with just that. he wanted dominance over the clan, no- the forest, no- the world.
he made the other apprentices follow his orders, do what he said. he made them give him whatever he wanted, lest he scratch him and blame it on an accidental blow in a training bout. he twisted their minds, making them lesser than himself, treating them like slaves. they were but pathetic stepping stones to build his own future glory.
but rainpaw wasn't an observant cat. he took no notice of the others' whispers behind his back. he didn't see the hateful glares shot in his direction by both the apprentices and their informed mentors. he was lucky, they said, that cloudstar didn't banish him for his foxhearted behaviour... yet. they said that they'd take matters into their own paws someday: tell hornetstar themselves, or drive him out by force if necessary.
so how long until rainpaw's little dictatorship sparked an uprising?
or worse, when would he capture the forest for himself?
