Brendon's POV

As I slowly swim away, I can't help but smile to myself. He was actually gonna come back!

I swim down closer to where the rocks are, knowing of a little pile of rocks I can stay on until the morning, when I would swim back to meet Dallon.

I can hardly contain my excitement and I know I won't be able to sleep all night, I just couldn't wait to see him again. Maybe he would come swim with me, or we could just stay there and talk. As long as I was with him, anything was okay.

I find my way to the rocks, and I swim down to the pile. The rocks were huge, but the very top one was smooth, so it was perfect for me to lay on or sit on.

I pout slightly as I lay on the rock, I never liked the ocean at night. It gets too dark and then you can hardly see, so I have no idea what could be around me at the moment. I curl my tail up and around myself, whimpering softly to myself as I try to become as small as possible.

I just wanna get this night over with.

I refrain from moving my tail, not wanting anything to see me as I remain curled up on my rock, my eyes slowly closing as I let myself relax and eventually drift off to sleep.

*time skip to the next morning*

When I wake up the next morning, I look around and stretch, having forgotten where I was but as soon as I remember, I smile happily and I giggle to myself.

I could see that the sun was already coming up, and Dallon said he'd be there bright and early, so I quickly started swimming back to the spot when I had left him yesterday. I also had to be careful though, cause you never know when the humans come out.

I swim up and let my head come out of the water, looking along the beach to see if I could see anyone anywhere at all.

I find another pile of rocks, and it actually peeks out of the water a little so I can sit on them as I wait for Dallon. I find a comfy place to sit on the rocks, my whole body still underwater but head out of it.

I keep my eyes on the beach, eager to see Dallon again.

After a while I heard something and I looked over to the beach, the noise catching my attention and I slowly submerged myself all the way, so nobody could see me if there was someone besides Dallon there. I didn't want to get caught, I just wanted to see Dallon.

I tried to pull away from the rocks but I can't, and I looked down, finding my tail stuck in between some of the rocks. I whine softly and whimper, because it definitely hurts. I try carefully pulling my tail away, but no matter how much I try I'm still stuck.

As the sun starts to come up more, I finally find the courage to yank myself away, hurting my tail a little in the process but I really try not to thinks about it as I swim up closer to the shoreline, every now and then peeking my head out to see if I could see Dallon anywhere at all.

I sigh softly to myself as I wait, my impatience starting to get to me, and I don't dare look at my tail, scared to see if something bad had happened to it.

I hear another noise and I resurface, only eyes and above sticking out just so I can see. My eyes light up when I see who I had been waiting for, and I swim closer, a little slower most likely because of the small rip in my tail, but I swim to him nonetheless, my heart starting to beat rapidly in my chest, the noise ringing in my ears.

I woke up before the sun was even up, making a pot of coffee. I was so excited that I was going to see Brendon again, I was surprised that I had even slept last night.

I drank my coffee as quick as I could, and in the process of that, I burned my tongue.
I cursed myself inside my head, as I put ice in my mouth. I grabbed a jacket and ran outside, rushing down the beach as best I could, since I was running on sand, which for the record is kinda hard.

I stopped at the place we had been yesterday. The sun was about to come up, so I waited for Brendon to come, because I knew for a fact I couldn't go to him.

I saw something in the water, and smiled, knowing exactly who it was.

"D-Dallon!" Brendon exclaimed happily, waving at me, as his head came out from under the water.

I ran towards him, not caring that my pants were getting soaked. I hugged him tightly, which was hard because he was still very wet.

"Hi, Bren! How're you?" I asked.

Instead of a reply, I heard him whimper.

"Brendon, are you okay?" I asked, looking at him.

"I...I g-got my tail s-stuck in some r-rocks." He said.

"Lemme see your tail, Bren."

He flipped his tail up, allowing me to see the tear in it.

"H-How bad is it?" Brendon whispered.

"Uh, how bad does it feel?" I asked.

"It h-hurts."

I nodded, seeing that there was blood on his tail. "Okay, you're fine."

"A-Are you sure?" Brendon asked, leaning up so he could see.

"No! Don't look!" I said. "I've got it under control, Bren."

"Is i-it that bad?" Brendon asked, his voice cracking. I could tell he was scared, and I hated seeing him like that.

I smiled at him. "It's okay, I'm gonna take you on a quick adventure."

"W-Where?"

I sighed. "To my house, it's only a few feet away."

Brendon began shaking. "W-what about other p-people?"

"There's no one here, Brenny, I checked." I said.

"W-What if..."

"I have to get your tail fixed, honey." I said. "I'm gonna have to carry you."

"I-I'll be too h-heavy.." He said. His dark eyes were wide with fear, and his whole body was shaking.

I wrapped my jacket around his tail, picking him up. "You're super light, acutally."

He giggled, holding onto my neck as I carried him to Ryan's house. I was lucky that my friend had gone to another friend's house today, so I didn't have to worry about Ryan walking in and seeing me and a merman together.

"Welcome to the house, Brendon!" I said, opening the door. I smiled as I saw him look around in surprise, taking in everything.

"W-What's that?" He asked, pointing to the kitchen.

"That's where we make food." I explained. "You hungry?"

He nodded. "W-Where are we g-going?"

"Bathroom."

"W-What's that?"

"It's where you....you'll see." I said, kicking the bathroom door open.

I set Brendon in the large bathtub, filling it with water. He gasped, giggling as it hit his tail. "It's s-so hot!"

"Is it too hot?" I asked, putting my hand on the knob so I could change the temperature.

"I l-like it!" He exclaimed, inspecting a bottle of shampoo.

I smiled, as I got a first-aid kit out of the bathroom cabinet. I opened it, finding some disinfectant and some bandages. "Okay, Brendon, give me your tail."

Brendon flipped his tail out of the bathtub. "C-Can I drink t-this?" He held up a bottle of shampoo, pointing to the liquid.

"No, you can't. It's gross, and it'll make you sick." I said. "Okay, Bren, this is gonna sting a little."

He whimpered, reaching for my hand. I took his, rubbing my thumb over his knuckles, trying to sooth him. "Three, two, one." I put the disinfectant on his cut, and he let out a small whine, holding onto my hand even harder. "It's okay, you're doing so good." I said gently, as I bandaged his tail where the tear was. "I'm so proud of you, Brenny."

He nodded, as I helped him out of the bathtub. "Thanks, D-Dallon."

"Of course, Brendon, now I'm gonna make some breakfast, how about you watch some TV." I said.

"Okay, b-but what's T-TV?" He asked.

I laughed. "You've got a lot to learn, Brenny, and that's perfectly fine. Now lemme show you how the TV works."
