First Night - III

"Good observation skills," the girl said, crossing her arms. "You seem like someone who knows his surroundings. Sadly, it looks your talents will only save you for a little while longer."

Viktor stared at the silhouettes of two large, burly men. One was holding a gun, while the other simply cracked his knuckles. His eyebrows furrowed as he tried to figure out why they were following them, but decided that would have to be for another time.

Viktor pulled off his scarf, and, gripping it in his left hand, it transformed into a silver whip with diamond shards. It gleamed in the winter night, catching the light from the street lamp.

Ruby stared in awe at the weapon that materialized out of thin air, replacing the knit scarf he was holding onto just a moment ago. Even the girl looked at him with confusion, but she quickly regained her posture.

"Grab him," she commanded.

Her goons obeyed.

The one holding the gun aimed at Viktor, but the blonde quickly threw out the whip, latching onto the man's out-stretched arm. Grunting, Viktor tugged his weapon, pulling his catch along for the ride.

The girl's helper flew in the air towards Viktor, and he preformed a round house kick on the man. He got slammed into the brick wall where Ruby was standing, almost crushing the young man.

"Ah, Ruby, sorry," Viktor said, his eyes wide. "You should probably move." Ruby just stared at him in shock as the blonde ran towards the girl and her other helper. Before Ruby could heed Viktor's words, he felt something grab his leg.

The man who had gotten whipped had wrapped his large hand around Ruby's ankle. They made eye contact, and Ruby acted quickly.

"Not today, thanks," Ruby said, kicking him in the gut with his free foot. The man gasped in surprise, letting go of Ruby's leg. He jumped back, watching as the burly man stood up. The brick wall he slammed into was slightly broken, but the man seemed just fine.

"You got nerve," he grumbled, spitting out blood. His thick Russian accent was a dead giveaway, and Ruby realized what he was, sighing.

"Damn Indomitables," Ruby muttered. "Never a fair fight with you guys." The man dropped his gun on the ground, smiling a yellow-toothed grin.

"I won't use gun," he said, holding out his arms. "I let you make first hit." Ruby scoffed, crossing his arms. The first mistake.

"Sorry, I'm not a fighter," Ruby said. "I also don't plan on fighting fair, either." Ruby tapped into the Russian man's head, and caused confusion in his small brain. All traces of Ruby's presence seemed to disappear from the burly man's view.

"What? Where did you go, small boy?" he asked, looking around. It was almost as if Ruby had become invisible. That wasn't the case.

Ruby smirked, walking towards the gun on the ground. Picking it up, he twirled the weapon in his hand, ideas forming in his head.

"How do you want to die?"

Viktor stopped in front of the girl, his whip gleaming in the lamp light. As the snow was falling lightly, he shivered in his sweatshirt. Too bad his scarf had to be replaced for the only weapon at hand.

"Who are you?" Viktor asked, watching as his breathe floated in the air. The girl glared at him, her arms crossed.

"That doesn't concern you. What matters is that I know who you are," she said firmly. "You're coming with me, whether you like it or not." The girl signaled to the other man, who stepped forward.

A gunshot rang out through the alley, and Viktor turned to see the first guy fall to the ground. Ruby stood over his body, holding a smoking gun.

They made eye contact, and the look of surprise on Viktor's face made it evident that killing someone was new to him. Ruby blinked before smiling. He mouthed the word out "catch" before tossing the gun to Viktor.

Viktor wrapped his whip around his neck with one hand and caught the gun with the other. Pain cut into his neck as the shards closed around his throat, but the it subsided once the gun was in his possession. As the whip turned back into his knit scarf, the gun became encased in diamonds.

Holding the gun in his right hand, Viktor pressed it against the girl's forehead.

"I won't ask again," Viktor said calmly. "Who are you?" The girl stared up at him with wide eyes, realization creeping into her mind. Her other goon stood still, not wanting to antagonize Viktor.

"Bounty hunters," she said, her words shaking. Her eyes shifted from Viktor to the gun. "Please. Don't do this." Viktor saw the fear in her eyes, and felt a weight on his heart.

He wasn't a murderer, and wasn't planning on becoming one.

"Viktor," Ruby's voice said. Viktor glanced around but didn't see him. "Finish her."

"Where's your boyfriend?" the girl asked. Viktor's grip tightened on the gun, and she flinched.

"Who sent you?" Viktor asked. He knew better than to waste his time. Instead, he would get some information.

"Myself," she replied. "Girl's gotta get money from somewhere, and you have quite the price over your head." Viktor's eyes widened at the words falling from her mouth, dread filling his body.

"You know who I am?" he asked slowly.

"I do, Prince." The girl grabbed his arm, pulling him towards her. Her knee entered his gut, and Viktor felt the air rush out of him. The gun fell to the ground, and he soon joined it on the hard street. The girl looked down on him, her eyes cold.

Her light-blue hair stood out against the snowflakes that continued to fall softly. The chill of the winter air didn't even seem to phase Viktor anymore. All he wanted to do was rest.

Ruby saw the second guy make his way towards Viktor. Without hesitation, he wrapped his arm around the girl's neck.

"Listen," Ruby whispered into the choking girl's ear. "Call off the mission. Go back to the sewer you crawled out of and never come back. Unless you value money more than your pitiful life." He tightened his grip, feeling the girl struggle underneath his hold. "Unlike Viktor, I won't hesitate to kill you."

"W-wait," she whimpered, causing the second Indomitable to stop. From his point of view, it seemed like the girl was choking on nothing.

Ruby loosened his grip so she could speak.

"We..we'll come back," she said quietly. "Next time, I won't hesitate either." Ruby released her, both physically and mentally, and she wasn't shocked to see him.

"Leave, scum," he said, his dark eyes staring her down. She returned the glare, her words only loud enough for him to hear.

"I knew it was you," she whispered. "Looks like I'm not the only one out hunting." Turning away, she waved her hand. The other Indomitable followed after her, but not before giving Ruby a sharp look.

Once they disappeared from sight, he sighed in relief. Viktor groaned, and Ruby remembered that he was hurt. Turning to see the blonde, he bent down.

"Are you okay?" Ruby asked, slight worry in his voice. Viktor looked up at Ruby, sighing. His eyelids felt heavy, but he knew it was a bad idea to stay out here any longer.

"Let's go," he said, sitting up. The pain of his head and stomach almost caused him to fall back down, but Ruby supported his back. Pulling him up, Ruby allowed Viktor to lean on his shoulders.

"Oh, can't forget this," Ruby mumbled, grabbing the pizza box that was left on the ground. Slowly, the pair made their way back to the place called home.
