36: Not What I Remember
The car ride back home was long. Thank god, I decided to take public transport today and not my car. Derek was able to arrive at my house without any issues. The weather wasn't exactly ideal with the amount of heavy rain pouring down.
Looking at Derek may be a hard reminder of the situation that I almost put myself in. My focus was mostly outside the window as other cars drove by and people crossed the street into the city nightlife.
We eventually arrive back at my house and I look at my muddy driveway as the rain continues to pour. My eyes caught on the footprints that seem to lead to my front door. Derek notices my staring and taps my shoulder. 'I can go in with you if you don't feel safe.'
I take another look at the footprints. 'Nah, it's fine.' I smile as I quickly hug Derek and hop out of the car.
From the corner of my eye, I could see the obvious look of concern he gave me. I simply turn around and wave goodbye. Derek frowns as he faces forward and drives off to the road.
I should be fine, right? I not a little bit of self-defence, I'll be alright.
The rain starts to pick up its pace as I turn the key on my front door. I quickly unlock the door and turn on the lights. As I try to close the door, a foot forces in between the frame and the door. I scream and quickly grab my umbrella; waking the intruder at the door.
He grabs my umbrella and tosses it to the side. I feel helpless as I push myself back.
The man turns towards me and I recognise his face immediately.
It can't be Father.
I don't believe it. He looks so different, from the photos, from my memory. 'W-what-why..' I only stuttered as he tries to hug me.
I push him away. He looks so much older and messy and different than the Father I grew up with. I don't wanna see him here.
'Back off!' I push that man away from me.
'Brooke....lemme explain...' he tries to grab my arm before I wack him in the face.
I stand up and walk to the living room, noticing my shaking body. That impostor tries to walk towards me before Derek comes out of nowhere and flips over to the ground. The man grunts in pain, glaring at Derek. Derek returns the glare and pushes his head to the ground. 'Brooke, are you alright?'
I can't control the tears rolling down my face as Derek holds that man down.
'Brooke, let me explain at least...' he grunts trying to attack Derek back.
'Brooke, do you know this man?'
I can't control myself. My body is shaking, tears are falling and I can't even talk normally.
'Why...' I keep stammering on, my hands still shaking. 'Father...'
'Father?....Crap.' Derek immediately hops off that man.....my Father.
Th-My Father gets up and looks at me, his eyebrows soften. 'Oh Brooke, boo'
'Nope. No. You can't call me that. Absolutely not. Why...after a decade did you finally decide to just show up and call me Boo again. What happened to being a parent after all those years, huh!? You left me with trauma and scarring nightmares! Since when are you still....my....Father....'
I start to get a little-headed, my breathing getting more intense as I start to feel nauseous.
My supposed Father and Derek watched as my body fell to the wooden, smooth floor...
