26: Not Necessary Drama

'You're friends with Sophie?'

We're in English class and just have been split into groups to read and analyse a play. I happen to be in a group with Mariah, Sophie, Derek and Peter (a great friend from primary school).

I don't understand Mariah's reaction or why she dislikes Sophie so much when she's a very chill person.

'Yeah, Sophie and I met on the camping trip.' I make eye contact with Sophie and smile. She does the same likewise.

'Anyways, let's get back to the play.'

We read the play and I analyse it to the best of my ability which isn't strong enough, but I just need an A out of this.

'I do wonder, what about this section? Rather than the author having narration for this section, he decided to have the characters point out the situation, which isn't normal.'

'Good observation, Peter.' I take note of the detail.

'What can I say? Genius in progress.' Peter does a dramatic hair sway which makes me laugh.

He was always the class clown with how dramatic he was. 'You haven't changed at all, huh Peter?'

'Nope.' His smile is still as goofy as always.

'Shouldn't we be answering questions?' Derek interrupts and brings up a worksheet; proceeding to pull a chair and sit in between Peter and me.

'What happened to your chair?'

'I can't hear all that well. I thought I should just go ahead and move here since I was on the far end of the circle.'

'Seems a little unreasonable, though Derek?'

"Nope, I don't have the best hearing. Coffee Addict knows.'

'Coffee Addi-'

'Yeah, we should probably get to those questions now. We can talk about random stuff later. I'll talk to you later, Peter.' I interrupt, starting right with our group number on the worksheet.

I eye Derek and give him a mini glare. That nickname is going to be the death of me. He looks back at me and grins. Must he grab every opportunity to make me look like a weirdo?

The bell rings and Mariah grabs her own and my bag. Taking me as well outside of the classroom.

'What is up with you, Mariah?' I question her as she takes me to an empty classroom and closes the door behind us.

'Since when you were buddy-buddy with Sophie? You know she's doing this just to get my attention?' Mariah crosses her arms.

I roll my eyes. ' Not everything is centred around you, Mariah. For once I met a person who likes Asian TV dramas, and you tell me that they're bad. from what I see, maybe it's you who is the bad person in this situation?!'

Mariah scoffs before laughing similar to a witch (that was a lot meaner than I realise). 'Did everything I do for you go out the window, Brooke?'

'When was the last time you did any selfless act for anyone? You are a person who spreads rumours and puts down others cause it makes you feel like some queen in her tower.'

'Don't ever talk to me again! You're just jealous that I got the position that your father never asked you to get. Wasting your time....' Mariah storms out and I feel...relaxed.

The door opens and I see Sophie and Peter with worried expressions. Sophie especially looked guilty. 'This is all my fault. I'm sorry, Brooke.'

'Hey, no. Mariah has no right to insult you like that. You do not deserve to be treated that way.' Peter nods his head in agreement as I rant.

We head to the library for a study period and to relax. While there I notice Derek talking to that annoying brunette. Also, noticing how close those two are. Her hand is practically on his from what I see.

Lord, maybe I am jealous.

I need to focus on school-related things, after all, exam season is about to begin.
