23: Not Facing Him
The next day is more relaxed than I expected. Throughout the morning, I never stopped getting glares from multiple girls. I don't need reminders of last night's actions back in my memory.
The moment Ted saw me, he immediately dragged me away from his friends.
'You kissed Derek?' His face is a mix of surprise and intrigue.
'You don't have to go announce it to the whole world.'
'No need. You went ahead and did it in front of tons of people. Not even I would do that. Brooke, you've got guts.'
The night was long but not enough to make me forget what exactly I had done. My hands are on his shoulders, not too wide and perfectly on an angle. The look in his eyes as I looked back. His dark brown eyes stare right into me.
Jésus.
Do I like him?
No. Yes? No. Yes?
'Hey Brooke, I don't mind hanging out with you today. A lot of people have been gossiping about you.'
'Sure...'
We head to the outdoor cafeteria, and my chest held up high as I got more looks. One thing I knew for sure, people were going to gossip about this for weeks.
Mariah will absolutely hear about it too.
My eyes catch my attention on Derek again. He seems more relaxed than usual. Heck even happier. As always, our eyes meet and he.... grins. A genuine, all-knowing smirk, So cocky and cute.
Hell no.
I avoid eye contact and face the other way. I can't tell if that smirk means god, I love her or if it means I have blackmail on you Coffee Addict, oh how screwed you are.
Probably the latter. He must be thinking of ways to use that as blackmail.
Coffee Addict.
That nickname no longer pisses me off like it used to. Lord, help me.
The camp staff appear in their mountain gear and enthusiastic smiles. 'Alright campers! Are you ready for your next activities for today!'
Most of the students were slightly hungover whilst others were just sleepy. Either way, the school wasn't going to let all that money go to waste. The fishing class went the way I expected it to go. People would go fishing. Someone would complain it was boring and do something. Before ruining the activity and everyone gets banned from going fishing.
After that fiasco, my cooking class was a lot more outdoors than any other class. We were making a traditional dish with fish. The first was to catch the fish, and the second was to do the proper dissection and removal, marinating the fish and then cooking the fish next to the fire. We made the fish alongside some very sweet damper, and I honestly didn't mind the strange aftertaste.
Throughout the whole lesson, I was getting stares from multiple girls who looked at me as if I killed their mothers. A few of them walked past me and intentionally bumped shoulders with me and didn't apologise.
I don't know if they wanted me to react and start causing some drama. I personally couldn't care less as long it doesn't get in my way of passing high school. The sooner I finish, the sooner I get to go to culinary school in France.
I met up with Ted and his friends during lunch. His guy friends were pretty chill while his female friends must hate me with the amount of snide, I was getting.
Mariah wasn't kidding when she said Derek has a fan club...
