Chapter 2 ❀ Staying Over
Hours were passing slowly and the other employees kept leaving one by one. They were so lucky they could get their jobs done without having to get pestered by their boss personally, it almost made you feel jealous. You sighed and let your head drop onto your desk before taking a look around. No one was left in the room, and with 'no one' you really meant what you said.
The next thing you did was gaze at the clock that hung over the exit door. It was almost midnight, meaning you had just missed all last busses, trains and trams. In other words, you wouldn't be able to get home, and instead you would have to spend the night most likely in a hotel or internet café, and despite that, leaving this prison called workplace sounded so alluring. Another sigh of annoyance rolled off your lips at the realization of things, and you couldn't motivate yourself to finish what little you had left of your work.
Just when you thought all hope was lost and you would give in to fatigue, a rather strange savior appeared before you. None other than Kaiba placed down a mug on your desk, his actions causing your system to start functioning properly again. You immediately lifted your head and recognized your personal cup, and it was even filled with your favorite coffee. That's when you started getting suspicious. Since when was the ice prince so kind? "Did you poison it or something?"
"A simple thank you would have sufficed." The brunet retorted irritatedly, never once aborting his short trip to his desk. Perhaps he was right. You were quite rude after he had just brought you something to drink. "I-I'm sorry, you're right. Thank you very much, boss."
"How come you're still here?" You couldn't help but ask once you had taken the warm cup in your hands and turned your chair around a tad, just enough to see Kaiba at his desk. "I had something to finish." Was the brunet's blunt yet vague reply.
The room fell silent after that again and the both of you continued doing what you were supposed to, even though you ended up staring more at the clock than actually working. But in the end, you had managed to finish for today — or yesterday, for that matter — even if it had already gotten half past midnight.
The suffocating silence was interrupted by the opening of the door and entering of a rather popular raven-haired boy. "Seto! Are you finally done with work?" It was Mokuba, the younger Kaiba. You were wondering what a kid his age was still doing here at this hour. And you certainly weren't the only one who asked yourself that question. "Mokuba why are you still here?"
"Anyway, let's get going. Where is Roland?" Kaiba questioned more rhetorically than in attempt to receive an answer after gathering all of his belongings and standing up. You couldn't believe he had actually asked that, but you took it upon yourself to answer. "Roland left hours ago. Everyone did."
"Then I guess you will be driving us home." Kaiba said, flashing you another one of those teasing smirks. But perhaps that wasn't such a bad idea, despite how it sounded. That way you could borrow one of the company's cars and drive home after dropping the two rich males off first. But almost expectedly, it seemed like fate had other plans with you. More like, Mokuba had other plans with you. "Yaaay! Does that mean [Name] is staying over?"
"Huh?" Both you and Kaiba said in unison, not sure if this was a good idea. Actually, no, this was a terrible idea. Spending the night at your annoying, rich boss' place? Definitely not a good idea. Unlike the woman you had phoned with earlier tonight, you weren't that interested in Kaiba's luxuries even if the thought of receiving free food at his house did end up crossing your mind and almost tempted you. Then again, with the individual in question being Kaiba, he would probably even tax you for dinner. "I don't think that's such a good—"
"Hmm that's not such a bad idea. That way I'll even have a babysitter for you, for tonight." The brunet once again made a malicious expression, this time making you frown and his younger brother pout. "I'm not a kid anymore, so [Name] doesn't need to babysit me, Seto!" The boy nonetheless rushed over to you and grabbed your hand, dragging you off with them, almost immediately forgetting about his elder brother's snarky comment.
That was how you ended up at the Kaiba's enormous mansion. "This place reeks of money." You muttered under your breath, but got either ignored or no one simply heard, and if you could choose from the two options, you'd almost prefer that your comment had gone unnoticed. "I still have something to take care of, so go put Mokuba to sleep." The brunet said, as if he owned you and the place — not like either of the two things were entirely wrong — after the three of you had stepped inside the house, if you even dared to humbly address it that way.
You did what he asked without putting up a fight since you had to keep a good image around Mokuba and led the raven-haired boy to his room. It wasn't like you were at Seto's house for the first time — scenarios like these were actually pretty common — but it was still a little awkward to simply waltz into the place as if it were the most normal thing to do.
"Hey, [Name], let's stay up until late!" Mokuba whispered once the both of you had reached the interior of his room, and almost more importantly, once the door had been closed. You would have preferred to just refuse since you were very tired and it was already quite late to begin with, but for some reason, you couldn't bring yourself to decline. Mokuba, unlike his elder brother, was adorable, and the puppy dog eyes he was pulling and would always pull in such situations didn't help in the slightest. "Your brother will get mad at us."
"He doesn't need to find out!" The boy insisted, flashing you the toothiest of grins. "Pretty pleaseeee?" You looked around helplessly, as if doing so would have helped you get out of this indeclinable situation, and sighed silently. "Alright, but not until too late." You gave in in the end, the young boy pumping his fist in the air victoriously. You really were an easy target for these kinds of things — Mokuba's little cheer of triumph made you realise that even more.
And so, you indeed stayed up talking with Mokuba, both of you exchanging embarrassing stories and random information about people you knew such as Joey Wheeler or even Kaiba, but neither of you lasted very long. In fact, the both of you had fallen asleep after about thirty minutes.
Mokuba was nicely tucked in his bedsheets and comfortably lying on his bed when that happened. You, on the other hand, had somehow ended up with your knees on the floor and head on the edge of the bed which wasn't exactly the most comfortable of postures if you dared say so. Not that you would have even known that well, given that you had already drifted to sleep.
Kaiba was finding it suspicious that you hadn't returned to report to him yet, so he came to check on the two of you, and was a little surprised to find you in that peculiar position. "What a pain..." He silently muttered to himself before approaching you, touching your forehead with his hand as if he were testing the components of one of his company's products. His attempt at waking you up didn't succeed (and he couldn't just blast you with his Blue Eyes again), so he proceeded to actually pick you up like a real lady and not just his secretary, bridal style to be more precise.
He carried you like that all the way to his room where he then placed you on his bed, gently as to not wake you up.
* * *
You were having such a pleasant dream, but all of a sudden, you realized it was only a dream and to top it off, found it suspicious that your alarm hadn't gone off yet, so you managed to wake yourself from it. Slowly opening your eyes, you rubbed them a tad before taking a look around the not so familiar surroundings.
The light that pierced through the window was quite blinding, but not blinding enough as to not make you notice the peculiar wallpapers in this room. "Are these cartoon dragons...? This isn't Mokuba's room though... Don't tell me—" This indeed wasn't the raven-haired boy's room, so it almost had to be Seto's. Even though you had never been in it before, you could tell. "So that means..."
"I'm in Kaiba's bed?" You could barely believe it yourself, but it was true. Very true. You were still in your work clothes from yesterday, the only difference being that the first two buttons of your shirt had somehow come undone. You didn't want to stay in the CEO's bed for too long, for the sake of dirtying the sheets — yes that was a good enough excuse. But it was just so invitingly warm, and this was a once in a lifetime occasion.
"This smell... It's Kaiba's." You made a small mental note as you unconsciously inhaled some of the male's fragrance that had been left on his pillow and covers. You were familiar with what cologne Kaiba used by now because you were constantly near him due to work, but this smell wasn't just some perfume worth ¥229'706. It was that particular odor that differed from person to person, the one that had managed to entrance you almost entirely.
You couldn't restrain yourself from gripping Kaiba's pillow and hugging it tightly as if it were your own, sniffing it a little since the chance to was already so boldly presenting itself. The smell was so soothing for some unknown reason, very unlike the person it belonged to. Though you would have been lying if you were to have went ahead and said that Kaiba could never be nice. Those events did occur, too, sometimes. Rarely, but they did.
"Are you done wiping your snot with my sheets?"
