Chapter 34
[Room 2019, Second Floor, Monoceros Keep General Hospital,
1:30 PM, 10th of Before Witching, Year 426]
" She's so adorable! " Basil Sinclair happily carried his little newborn niece as his younger brother Crispin busied himself doing making faces. Emie was cheerfully laughing and cooing at her two uncles.
" Guys, just be careful with her, " Glenda reminded her brothers with concern. " Emie's stomach might get upset. "
" Oh, we didn't mean that! " her youngest brother nervously grinned and chuckled. " She's enjoying it! "
" Yeah, we're so happy in seeing her for the first time. Can't blame it, though! " his older brother passed the little girl to her mother.
Emie smiled and kept cooing at her mother when Glenda sighed in relief and carried her.
" So, where's Amnon though? I thought he's having a day-off today, " Crispin asked.
" He's taking a half-day work as usual, you know clinic duties? Then, he'll get to drop-by before Emie gets her newborn screening, " she nonchalantly replied. " Pierre and Marie will be here later in the evening before going home. "
" Oh, yeah. I guess we'll have a family reunion after Candlemas? " Basil suggested. " We might prepare some food for all of us. "
" I missed your cooking though, " the confined pediatrician cheerfully mused.
" Oh, come on, Glen! "
Crispin nudged his older brother and intently smirked at him. Basil heavily sighed and facepalmed as Glenda laughed at her younger male siblings.
" Glen, Cris, I have just recovered though! Oh, come on! Fine, I'll cook! " he relented which he had no choice. Then, he turned to his brother, " Cris, you should be helping me! "
" Sheesh, Basil! You don't need to tell me twice, okay? " Crispin sighed.
Suddenly, they all heard a gentle knocking on the door and turned their attention to it. Glenda moved her head at her youngest brother, implying him to open it. Crispin nodded and stood up from his seat which he moved the door knob. Amnon, who had changed his clothes, smiled at his brother-in-law in greeting and brought some food for himself and his wife.
" Hey, Bro! " Crispin happily greeted him. " Good to see you, again! "
" Bonjour, Crispin, Basil, " the blonde general practitioner greeted his younger brother-in-laws. " Glad you made before your discharge. "
" Yeah, " Basil replied and made a thumbs-up at his older brother-in-law. " Can't wait to start from scratch! Our first exploit is to see our little lovely niece!"
" Ah, merci beaucoup, " he commented and turned to his wife and daughter, kissing them. " So, Emie has enjoyingly seen her uncles while I was away? "
" Of course, they made her laugh, " Glenda sweetly smiled at her spouse and kissed him back. Emie was happily cooing at her father as Amnon tickled her feet.
" Well, I guess we'll see you again, guys," Basil stood up and brought his belongings, kissing Glenda and Emie on their cheeks. Crispin did the same thing to his sister and niece in greeting.
" Take care. We'll see you around Candlemas or after, " Glenda responded while carrying her daughter.
" Sure, Cris and I will cook something delicious! " Basil proudly assured and made a friendly fistbump to Amnon. " See ya, around, Bro! "
Amnon responded the same gesture at his brother-in-law and joked, " Just don't blow your head, again! "
" Oh, come on! "
Crispin gave his older brother a hardy laugh and gently patted at his brother-in-law. He happily said, " Good luck to be a great dad to your little girl! "
" Of course, I will. Merci! "
" See ya! "
The Sinclair Brothers waved 'goodbye' to the Montmartres when they left the recovery room and closed the door. Glenda started breastfeeding her daughter when Amnon sat on the chair.
" So, how's work? " she asked.
" As usual, I had some patients coming and getting their consultation, " he replied. " I'm thinking of getting a month paternity leave since I'm helping you to raise our little girl for a while. "
" It makes sense. You have been overworked these days. Maybe, you can have a break for a while before returning to work. If I get recovered and find someone to take care of Emie, I'll be on duty with you. Besides, I missed those days working together in the clinic and doing hospital rounds. We make sure we can juggle our time to raise our daughter. "
Amnon nodded at his wife and heard a knock on the door. He stood up and said, " Right, visitors. " Then, he turned to his wife and reminded, " Just cover yourself and Emie while breastfeeding. "
" Sure, " Glenda nodded and took her covering robe for herself and her daughter.
The Akrovian-Foranean doctor opened the door and saw his ginger haired older brother and long haired silver haired relative who stood on the doorway.
" Bonjour, Amnon. I just told Christopher about your newborn child as he wants to see you, " Ivo greeted him.
" Ivo has made an excuse to Arthas to leave work for accompanying and letting me see your daughter for now, " Christopher smiled. " I also need a word on you about Darkvile. "
" Sure, come in, " Amnon willingly nodded and greeted back. " Bonjour! "
The two men entered the room and saw the other doctor who was a new mother covering herself and carrying a her child. Christopher and Ivo was being offered some seats before taking them.
" Sorry, we didn't mean to disturb you and your child, " the silver haired ranger elf nervously chuckled and looked at Ivo. " But Ivo and I took some fruits for the both of you before we came here. "
" No, it's fine! " Glenda chuckled.
" Ja, Done it by a slight earthquake spell when the fresh peaches fell from the tree, " the ginger haired mechanic grinned as he and Christopher placed the two baskets of peaches on the table. Then, they took their seats.
" Merci beaucoup! " Amnon gasped in shock and saw the gifts. " Ivo, Christopher! That's too much! "
" At least, you two can enjoy eating them as snack and desserts! " Christopher happily mused and changed the topic. " So, I just need to tell you something and this has to do with the missing leg bone from the museum. "
Amnon and Glenda shared glances which they could hardly remember hearing or reading the news about the missing relic. Ivo heavily sighed and had the knowledge of that incident from almost a month ago.
" What do you mean? " the new mother and pediatrician asked when Emie was finished drinking milk from her mother.
" We can't even recall of what is it about, " her husband interjected.
" I do, " the ginger haired Chergarian man seriously broke his silence. " I was there outside waiting for Frau Sheeva and her siblings. They were supposed to meet someone and planning to steal an ancient Robanian relic. "
" It belonged to Darkvile, " Christopher sternly replied and recalled. " That missing leg of his was the only thing he needed to fulfill his exploits. "
Amnon heavily sighed, recalled reading Kintor's journal, and clasped his hands. Then, he said, " So, it's for his retribution, wasn't it? After all he had done from a long time ago, he wanted to succeed in differently wrong way. "
" Yes, I should have punished him from the beginning, but he has been doing so much darkness for centuries, " the ranger elf responded and crossed his both arms.
" So, Darkvile had a connection to an Umbral god, but who? " Ivo curiously asked.
" He was associated with an Umbral noble named, Charybdis, " the general practitioner instantly answered. " Your ancestor and Kintor had witnessed of Skorge's ascension. "
" Das ist furchtbar inakzeptabel. (This is terribly unacceptable.) " he remarked and raised his right hand in interjection. " I knew what it's like to be under an Umbral influence, but the soul of the defiled one cannot be redeemed. "
" That's true, Ivo, " Christopher seriously spoke. " Skorge or Darkvile indeed became one. He cursed Arielle and even one of your family members of the Montmartre side. "
" Verdammt, Maman Catherine was indeed right. "
Glenda was listening to the conversation and letting out a deep sigh. Amnon left his seat and sat beside his wife and daughter, placing left arm around her shoulder. Emie happily cooed at her parents. Ivo and Christopher looked at the new family with concern.
" I know that Darkvile may come after anyone of us, " Christopher answered. " But we will never let that happen. "
" Can you tell us what he did to our ancestors before ? " Amnon curiously asked.
" Alright, then. "
[Dread Wolves Tribe's First Settlement: Robania, Year 174]
Underneath a warm sun, the afternoon winds rushed into the trees. There were children running along and playing. A group of hardworking elves had ventured themselves into the wilderness. Some had conversed and eavesdropped of the Yddrassin Empire's successful conquests and negotiations of each country in Altirus.
A young elven man with white hair spent reading the scrolls which his human step sister had asked him to do. He yawned and felt tired of reading it as he was sitting under the tree.
" Arielle has been asking me to read those earth elemental spells, " he grumblingly thought. " Will I ever join Eliah and Christopher on their next exploits? Why would I waste my time reading everything?! "
Without any knowledge, the young elven boy shrieked in fear when a slightly strong tremor happened and saw some cracks on the ground. He looked around, ducked, held, and covered his body. In a couple of minutes, the low intensity earthquake stopped rocking the ground. Just then, a young woman with blonde locks intently grinned and crossed her arms. She was dressed in a long sleeved verdant gown.
" Arielle, what on Iliad?! Why did you ever create such a strong earthquake like that?! " he cried. " Don't you even know you can destroy the entire Altirus! "
" I'm so sorry, Kintor, " Arielle sweetly spoke and softly chuckled. " I just watched you sitting under the tree when you yawned like a lion! I understand you are so tired in reading the scrolls given to you, but you still need to master the earth elemental spells before you proceed to the next element. Do you understand? "
The young Kintor Graveheart relentedly sighed and shrugged, " I understood. Thank you, my dear teacher. "
" He's at the peak of almost creating a fissure, Arielle ," another voice said, before entering the scene, with long white hair, and tattoos of the hunter's mark sketched on his face." In given time, he'll be shaking the foundation as a whole."
" He does need more time to practice, Christopher, " she sighed and asked. " How's your exploits with Eliah? "
" Venturing deep into the underbrush of the woods, We've taken down a mighty beast of a bear." Christopher gestured over to the large beast being dragged. " This one has been a hassle and finally met its match," the young elf said proudly.
" Wonderful! " Kintor happily beamed. " I wish I could join with you. "
" Learning other types of elemental magic, would be welcoming, " Christopher smirked to his half brother." An earth spike would be a great tool to have with us, so I don't see any problem with it."
" Oh, I haven't practiced that yet! " Kintor nervously chuckled.
" See? " Arielle intently grinned and crossed her arms, while looking at him. " You still need to learn. "
A tall and young blonde man set on a ponytail walked over as he was donned in an armor. He looked at Arielle, Kintor, and Christopher and smiled. He was holding his sword and approaching them.
" It seems you had a fun talking about hunting the bear and some earth manipulation, " he said.
" Eliah, you're here! " Arielle happily greeted at her twin brother. " Where have you been? "
" I had just to see my dearest Alina first, " Eliah smiled pleasantly at his twin sister and looked at his elven half-brother. Then, he sighed and changed into a serious tone, " Alina had a word with me about cousin Skorge. There's something wrong with him. "
" What has befallen him? " Christopher urgently asked.
" Alina has just spotted him talking to himself, but Skorge claimed to be talking to the Umbral named Charybdis, " he sternly spoke.
Kintor and Arielle shared glances and got alarmed to what they had heard. They were the first ones who knew of Skorge's sudden encounter of the strange child god.
" He's consulting with those darkened demons. Why is he stepping towards their corrupted presence? " Christopher intently asked.
" Mes Dieux! " Arielle anxiously commented. " This is the worst thing that would ever do! Alina will be in trouble in seeing him like this! Our family and the tribe will find it very unacceptable! "
" I have a bad feeling that Skorge will get her from me. Our marriage will be in three weeks. I won't let it happen, " Eliah seriously replied.
" What should we do when we see him? " Kintor worryingly asked.
" Straighten him out. If he's hurling himself into the void, we'll have to pull him back, " Christopher sternly responded.
" I really need to stop him, now, " Eliah said. " Before Alina gets hurt. "
" But where is he? " Kintor asked.
Arielle looked around and rushed herself into the forest, thinking where Alina would have been. Kintor turned around and got surprised that the lady geomancer had gone.
" Eliah, Christopher! " the elven boy called them. " Arielle's got away! "
" My sister! She will be in great danger! " the knight anxiously spoke.
" She's what?! " Christopher tightened his hand around his bow, and looked to the others." Kintor, we're dealing with this sooner. Let's go."
" Aye, " Kintor nodded.
As the sun was setting, Arielle headed herself into the woods and tried looking for Alina. She found the other blonde girl with long curly locks crying and trapped in a dark bubble without any sound. Alina kept pounding the it, but she couldn't break it.
" ALINA! " the lady geomancer cried. " I'll get you out of here! "
Arielle casted a spell of rock projectiles and kept throwing it on the dark bubble and bounced back to her. She quickly dodged as she was able to avoid being hit. The other blonde woman kept pounding and yelling. Arielle heavily sighed and didn't want to cause another earthquake. A dark haired man showed up and stood behind her.
" Go ahead...Arielle, quake her! " Skorge loudly laughed. " Quake her to death so she can be free! "
" No, I won't! I don't want to cause such disasters anymore! "
Disgusted by witnessing the disgruntled change in his former friend, the white haired elf shouted out," Enough Skorge, you're not forcing her to do anything! She doesn't want to do!"
" Christopher! You! " Skorge yelled. " I had enough of your rambling! "
" Flaunting towards the darkness of Umbrals to threatening your own friends..." Christopher glared at the Umbral believer. With firing two arrows of light when he'd watched the effect on the cursed orb.
" It's my decision to become more superior than all of you! " Skorge angrily yelled and casted a spell to subdue the group.
The four of them trapped into the darkness and saw the future of their descendants and themselves. Kintor widened his eyes in shock and saw himself dying in a castle. Eliah saw a man losing his right hand by a strange person with a deck of cards. Arielle bitterly wept and witnessed an orange haired man getting tortured by a lizard man and his group, watching him die. Christopher got himself in the midst of a war.
" Now, you can you see your future...This will never change... All of you and your descendants will suffer! "
" Fate isn't yours to tamper with, when it can be directed, without you...Insolent traitor, " Christopher charged the power within himself and created a barrier of light, then sending forth a bolt of light towards the betrayer.
" You will just see what I can do to your group! " he laughed maniacally and dodged. Then, he targeted Arielle who was weeping in fear and casted a spell of shadows to grab her away.
" Eliah, Christopher, Kintor, Alina! " she cried loudly.
" ARIELLE! " Kintor, Eliah, and Alina screamed in unison.
Arielle tried to break away from the shadows as she couldn't do it. Eliah casted a lightning bolt to help his sister and girlfriend and set them free. The darkness subsided as the two young women left the darkness.
" You will pay for this, Skorge! " Kintor kicked the ground and caused a tremor to the attacker.
Skorge instantly evaded and hovered away from the earthquake and made a barrage of dark energy orbs to the group. All of them got struck down when he laughed. Eliah stood up and casted a spell of lightning blast, targeting the Umbral devout. Skorge quickly dodged from it and made a counterattack to him, by casting a spell with a swarm of flies and pestering him.
" Get off me! " the light bearing knight angrily yelled and zapped the flies into their demise.
Alina casted another spell of radiating beam to blind Skorge, but the dark mage created another wave of shadows to subdue the other light bearer's brightness.
" Everyone, he's getting too impossible to defeat! " she warned.
" He's stronger...I'd admit..." Christopher enforced more power into his light and blasted the dark mage with a blitz of light beams." The light has no limit's of what it can do! "
The dark mage evilly grinned and subdued the blast when he was casting a large shadow engulfing the light. Skorge held his blade and readied to strike Christopher and the others, but Arielle defended them by casting a powerful shockwave to push the dark mage away and sent it pushing into the tree.
" You're no longer the Skorge, we know of! You have just been corrupted! " she sternly said.
" You don't really know what you're getting, Arielle, " he scoffed and casted a spell, setting up a curse on her.
Arielle was trapped in her mind and frozen. She saw herself causing so much disasters and deaths in Robania from the spells she had done. The lady geomancer bitterly wept and trembled. For the others, they could see her in tears and hear her wailing.
" Arielle! " Eliah called his sister's name. " Please stop crying..."
" Arielle, what's going on?! " Alina asked.
" GO AWAY! STAY AWAY FROM ME! " she yelled.
Clutching his fists tightly, the Elven Ranger dropped his bow, from having grown infuriated from his former friend's malice.
" This atrocity won't go anymore further! " Christopher felt his power increasing immensely from the rise of the moon's shining glare.
" I'll never forget what you have done to my sister! " Eliah furiously growled at Skorge as his eyes turned bluish white in radiances. His hands were sparking in an intense bioelectricity.
" Even you two are nothing but futile agents of light! " Skorge replied harshly and summoned a spell of dark orbs in striking them.
Soon erupting into a burst of light, wings formed behind Christopher's back and with concentrating the light to his palms.
" You've only become hubris, you traitor! With having become twisted into a slave of theirs, you'll only become a tool...and nothing more! " he formed a spear of blinding white light." Avenging Wraith! " He'd thrown the javelin towards the dark user aiming for his chest.
The bluish bioelectric spell became too powerful for Eliah as he was ready to take Skorge down. The great combination of white light and bioelectricity subdued the dark mage as he got stunned and weakened. Then, he fell down instantly.
" You two have surpassed me, but I will triumph in the future! " Skorge retorted and slowly stood up, panting. " You will just see! "
" When you've forced us to glimpse into the future, You've made one fracture of your undoing, it'll be my hand, that'll send you to oblivion...and it'll indeed happen, Darkvile..." Christopher raised his bow towards him, with one eye closed, and his other slightly squninting." This'll be my decree of declaring it so! " He fired a light created arrow racing towards the dark mage.
The dark mage angrily growled in pain when he lost his eye. The eyeball just dropped into the ground as Alina casted a spell to make it into ashes. Skorge clenched his fists and disappeared by summoning a teleporting spell.
" Skorge we've known him to be, is forever gone..." Christopher checked in on his friends, and looked back to what remained." An oath I'll hold for the centuries to come, in silencing his madness."
" What about Arielle? " Kintor asked and sadly looked at the mentally distressed geomancer. " She's too afraid to use her spells now. He left her with so much fear. "
" Bring her back to camp, we'll inform Merrill on what occurred..." Christopher intently replied." She'll help mend her wounds, both physically and mentally."
" I hope she recovers, " Alina sadly spoke and looked at her friend.
Eliah and Kintor helped the lady geomancer to stand up as the group headed into the village.
[Room 2019, Monoceros Keep General Hospital, 2:45 PM, 10th of Before Witching, Year 426]
" So, this is why maman Arielle was so afraid to use her spells, ja? " Ivo asked his ancient elven relative as Amnon and Glenda were both listening at the story. " This man Skorge caused a lot of pain to all us and our ancestors. "
" Christopher, did you know what happened to Papa Eliah and Alina? " Amnon asked while carrying Little Emie on his arms.
" Alina left soon after she'd lost her child...after the trauma, She'd never been herself and would soon travel onwards to Lusivakia, " Christopher sadly sighed." Darkvile's taint had affected her the most..."
" So, that explains I am supposed to be a remnant of Eliah and Alina's lineage and this powerful and persistent bioelectric spell, " the general practitioner replied while his newborn daughter cooed him. " Gozposha Merrill's right. No wonder why Kintor befriended me way back. "
" You are that supposed fulfillment, Amnon, " Glenda sincerely smiled at her husband. " They have already known."
" Ja, I know it is very perplexing to understand, mon frère. Perhaps, it's our time to stop Darkvile, " Ivo added and turned to Christopher. " Mein freund, I completely understood now why maman Arielle and my entire family lived in so much distress for so many centuries. I carried the same burden they had. It's time to break this generational curse which Skorge or Darkvile has done to us. "
" Darkvile, the old friend we've come to share our friendship with, is forever buried away in the tomb of lies. Leaving the phantom of one who terrorize us to this day, " Christopher shook his head. " The promise I've kept, will be soon done by ending his suffering spirit."
" We'll end his schemes, " Amnon added.
" I agree, it's time to finish this curse, " Ivo nodded.
" Never again, for Eliah and those he harmed or worse, they'll have their justice met, " Christopher nodded in unison." The demon has served the Umbrals very long enough."
" Das ist für Màman Arielle bis zu meiner Existenz. Darkvile sollte nicht regieren. (This is for màman Arielle until my very existence. Darkvile should not reign.) " the orange haired geomancer and blacksmith seriously said in his language.
" Papa Eliah et Maman Alina s'étaient séparés et avaient souffert pendant des siècles. Nous briserons la malédiction pour nous tous. C'est aussi pour Glen, Emie et mes futurs descendants. Ils méritent la paix qu'ils ont perdue. (Papa Eliah and Mama Alina had separated and suffered for centuries. We'll break the curse for all of us. This is also for Glen, Emie, and my future descendants. They deserve their peace that they lost.) " the Akrovian-Foranean doctor added, carried his daughter on his right arm, and placed his left hand on his wife's shoulder. " Davayte pokonchim s etim i postroim luchsheye budushcheye. (Let's end this and have our better future.) "
" At these times of war, it's holding onto faith that's setting us stronger, and the fellowship of our alliance. Those will prevail over the darkness, " Christopher said.
" I know you three will fulfill this. I have my support on you, you can all do this, " Glenda sincerely smiled at them and looked at her newborn daughter. " Your father and uncles have a lot of things to do to keep our country safe. "
Little Emie smiled at her parents and her two uncles and happily cooed like she was responding to them.
