Chapter 12
[Montmartre Residence, Monoceros Keep, Foranea 9:12 AM,
24th of Umbral-Tide/Darktide, Year 426]
As Amnon and Glenda checked on Nirvana in the living room, they didn't expect the telephone loudly rang and echoed the whole place. The general practitioner looked at his pregnant wife and in house guest-patient, implying that he would answer the phone. The two ladies nodded back at him as he left and picked it up from the side table.
" Bonjour, c'est la résidence Montmartre. Puis-je savoir qui est-ce? (Good morning, this is Montmartre residence. May I know who's this?)" he politely asked.
" Good morning, I am looking for Doctor Montmartre, " a deep male voice with a refined Aldernian accent replied in Neo-Ydrassi.
" Infact, there are two Doctors Montmartre in this household. May I know who's this? " Amnon said and raised his eyebrows.
" It's Shemlock Homes. "
" Shemlock?!
" Yea, it's been a while, Amnon, " Shemlock happily grinned.
" We have just met back in the precint a few days ago. Is this something to do with my clinic's crisis? " he queried.
" Spot on, " the Aldernian detective replied. " I was there observing your interrogation with Sauveterre. "
" Right, are there any developments of that incident? "
" For starters, there was an Umbral involvement who intruded and bantered you, your staff, and patients, " Shemlock explained. " You will be surprised to hear that a dwarven barber has given some pertinent information. "
Amnon intriguedly cocked his eyebrows and listened carefully to his fellow Odyssea Academy alumnus friend. He scratched his chin and deeply thought.
" Azazel Barbier, he's Dr. Amélie Rousseau's patient, " he replied and remembered the dwarven man from his clinic. " Did he spill the beans and talk very fast about his infirmity? "
" Yes and No. He gave us your suspect's name: Henri Dupont. Have you heard of this guy before? "
Amnon frowned and held his phone's handset, becoming oblivious. He remained silent and composed his thoughts, thinking that clinic's hostage taker could be his father's murderers. Shemlock noticed of his friend's dead air moment which it took seconds and minutes.
" This is Iliad to Dr. Amnon Joseph Danilovsky-Montmartre! Can you hear me, Doctor Montmartre?! " he loudly called out, making Amnon's ears tingling.
" Oh pour l'amour de Photis, Shemlock! (Oh for Photis's sakes, Shemlock!) " Amnon angrily exclaimed, became annoyed at his best friend, and asked. " Is that man, Dupont, one of those who plotted my father's death? "
" Not really, " Shemlock answered. " He's just a hostage taker, but Sauveterre and I needed more time to investigate of Dupont's connections to the Umbral Cult. "
" Umbral Cult? Pardon moi? "
" You have spent months outside, Foranea and done some wild things with the Contractor's guild, Amnon. Aren't you aware they're all over Iliad, but a faction is just here? "
" Look, I have encountered Damocles before and witnessed Esme's Umbral possession, " Amnon reasoned. " I have heard of them, but haven't seen them. "
" It's about time to face the music, Doctor Montmartre, " Shemlock reminded. " You may encounter them along the way, regardless if you start your first day of work or anytime soon. "
" Shemlock, I don't want to be involved with fighting anymore. I have enough, okay?! Something happened to me before. That will not happen again. That's why I need the police to do their job and arrest them. I have more important things than to focus on. "
" Well, I won't mess up your mind then, " the Aldernian detective said. " By the way, Amnon, I'm here in Foranea and working for your case along with the Umbrals. I just realised that living at the hotel in Monoceros Keep is becoming too expensive. Will it be alright if I live at your premises as your housemate? "
The general practitioner remained silent and turned to his wife who looked concerned at him. Amnon sighed and muttered, " Shemlock, what on Iliad..."
" I will be very useful in your household, but expect such inconviences from me! " he cheerfully mused.
" I was able to tolerate your magical spells summoning the mice, insects, and other animals. You were playing the violin around 3:00 in the morning everyday and making some explosive compounds in your alchemy or chemistry lab experiments! I was too patient and forgiving in waking me in the weekend mornings as you put a dozen of alarm clocks beside my bed, summoned a rooster to cackle me or even played a loud phonograph, " the physician deadpanned and facepalmed using his left hand. "Shemlock, we're no longer in Odyssea Academy years. I have an elderly mother with two carers, an expectant wife-mother, two productive and competent siblings, and a live-in patient. Do you even think I can...."
" I assure I will help you in this case, but let live me in your household while I'm here. "
Pierre eavesdropped at his older brother and grinned as he made a thumbs-up. Glenda nodded back as she listened as well. Nirvana became too clueless of what they were talking or implying about. Amnon seemed too hesitant and looked at his wife and younger sibling.
" Fine, " he relented, heavily sighed, and asked. " When you will be leaving the hotel? Does your brother Michael know of this plan in living with me? "
" Absolutely. I will be leaving the hotel tomorrow afternoon and getting into your house, " Shemlock answered. " See you tomorrow, Amnon. "
" Right..." he nodded when the call got ended.
" Well, I'm glad someone will help you to solve that case, " Pierre interjected. " A fellow Odyssea Academy alumnus who's gonna work with those underground criminal gang. "
" Pierre, they're not just criminals, but an Umbral cult..." Amnon corrected.
" They may be somewhere around Monoceros Keep, Sparky, " he warned. " Perhaps, you can recall that patient of yours in the clinic. "
" A possessed old woman? "
" Yep, " the Foranean Army Captain nodded and looked at Nirvana who sat beside Glenda. " Nirvana had told me about them. They're freakingly dangerous. If only Colonels Pascale and Smitus assign me to do some night ops around the country, but unfortunately I was assigned to do some boring admin duty. Paperworks and 9 to 5 jobs aren't my thing, " he shrugged.
" At least, you gain experience and income for that one, " the general practitioner replied.
" Heh, right. "
" Perhaps, I can help you all about their identities and whereabouts, " Nirvana anxiously broke her silence . " But please promise me not to tell anyone, I was one of them. "
" Nir, you're not gonna get involved, are you? " Glenda asked the patient with concern.
" No, Doctor Glenda, " she replied. " I just need a pen and paper to write everything I can remember. This is the only thing I can help Pierre or anyone else. "
" I'll take it from here, " Pierre added. " Be right back. "
Amnon curiously cocked his eyebrows at his brother who went away and turned to Nirvana, " You surely have enjoyed my younger sibling's company, haven't you? "
" Yes, Doctor Amnon, " the female patient nodded and blushed. " Pierre is such a good fellow and very humorous too. "
" Well, then. I hope your convalescence can speed up very soon. "
" Sure, will do, " she smiled and saw the Foranean Army captain holding a pen and a pad paper.
" Nirrie, just take your time in composing your thoughts. My brother and I have to report this into our detective friend who will come tomorrow. "
" Shall I start? "
" As long as you need to. "
" Thank you, " she nodded and started to think of what she needed to write.
[Dread Wolves Tribe Village, Outside Monoceros Keep, Foranea, 6:40 PM]
As the elven people kept talking and cheering, a band of musicians enjoyed playing their lively music. Some were talking to the fellow elven priest, Father Mar-Vell Agapov. The others spent singing and dancing. At the middle, they gathered to dance when the others were eating and drinking at the table. There was a young elven girl with teal locks and a pink ribbon behind her. She was wearing a long royal blue tunic dress. Her older siblings were talking to their uncle and aunt who was carrying the newborn halfling.
She looked around, saw her mother, and asked, " Mother, who are we expecting aside from Uncle Christopher and Aunt Celine? "
" My dear, Azure, we are expecting the two doctors who will come, " a brunette elven woman replied.
" Who and where are they? " Azure asked.
" We will expect them very soon. "
A young man named Thorian who had an uncanny resemblance to his father curiously overheard the conversation. He was wearing blue and white robes. His locks were luscious and fine like leaves on the tree. Then, he approached his mother and youngest sister, and asked, " Two doctors? Does anyone get sick here in our village? Do we ask for their help? "
" No, Thorian, " His mother Fiona chuckled and replied. " They are here for the feast as we have invited them. "
" What for? "
" You will find out when they come. "
Azure cluelessly looked at her brother and shrugged. Thorian heavily sighed at his sister and thought of returning to his other family members. Suddenly, he heard a car parked near to the village when the two people stepped into the mystical force field, entering the premises.
" I think they're here! " Thorian exclaimed and turned to his sister. " Azure, let's check on them. "
" Are you sure it's them? " Azure asked curiously.
" Yes! Let's go! " he replied and grabbed her right hand.
" Hey! "
The two siblings instantly rushed towards the people and made sure they wouldn't cause an accident. Suddenly, they saw a tall blonde elf man talking to the human spouses. Thorian and Azure exchanged glances and overheard their conversation.
" I think this is not the right time to talk to them, " Thorian reminded with a whisper.
" Right, " Azure nodded and sighed.
" They are just talking to Father Mar-Vell. You two will just need to wait, " a silvery white haired elf man called them out, surprisingly hugged them from behind, and chuckled.
" Uncle Christopher! " the two siblings exclaimed in shock.
" They're humans, but I thought they're doctors, " Azure surmised.
" They are actually. You will see them how they can check and heal the sick and the injured, " Christopher replied and looked at the blonde bespectacled spouses: the man with a slick hair and cladded in a charcoal black business suit with a blue shirt and tie and his short haired pregnant wife in a prussian blue dress. " They need to finish their talk with the priest and then you can have your turn. "
" Do they heal the animals? " Azure asked.
" I don't think so. "
" Did father know them? " Thorian chimed in.
" He knew the tall moustached man with slick hair and wearing a suit. "
" Can we talk to them? "
" It seems like Father Mar-Vell is done talking to them, " Christopher looked and saw the elderly Akrovian Ouranist priest smiling and walking towards the crowd. " You may go and ask them. "
The two siblings nodded and headed to the physician spouses dressed in evening formal outfits. They were very eager to bolt them some questions. The physician spouses got surprised and shared glances.
" Hello, did you come into this place? " Thorian asked.
" Yeah, " the woman with short blonde hair nodded. " My husband and I were invited to a party or a feast. "
" Yes, mother invited you both, " Azure answered. " May we know your names please. "
" Doctors Amnon and Glenda Montmartre, " the man introduced himself and his wife. " And you two are? "
" Thorian Graveheart and this is my younger sister, Azure. " the young man with green hair responded and respectfully bowed at them. " It's a pleasure you two. "
" Did you two know about our late father, Kintor? " Azure queried.
Dr. Glenda Montmartre looked at her husband with concern as he sadly sighed. Then, she replied on his behalf, " He did, but I heard stories about your beloved parent. That's why we're here to honor him. "
" Our sincerest condolences to your late father, " Amnon added.
" Thank you for remembering him, Doctor Amnon, Doctor Glenda, " Azure slightly smiled at them.
" Azure, it's about to start! Let's go! " Thorian reminded and saw Elder Merrill smiling and Father Mar-Vell standing behind her. Amnon looked at Glenda when she nodded at him. They followed the two young siblings and found themselves standing at the farthest corner of the crowd.
" Cheesecake, I think we can't get in any further..." Glenda whispered.
" Babe, I know it's too crowded. It's fine if we stay here for now. Besides, we're just observing, eating, and having a chat. Then, we leave, " her spouse lowly replied as she nodded.
" My dear people of Dread Wolves Tribe, " Elder Merrill spoke audibly. " We are here tonight to celebrate life, goodness, and prosperity in our dwelling. First, we have Christopher and Celine introducing their first born daughter, Callisto. " She turned to Knightfalls as they stood beside her. Christopher, his wife, and daughter smiled at the crowd. Merrill looked at the crowd, squinted her eyes, and searched for the other family. Finally, she saw the Montmartre spouses at the distance and smiled at them.
" Secondly, we have two human physicians who generously welcomed the new family into their household and comforted the grieving family. Doctor Amnon Montmartre has known our beloved brother, Kintor, in his time at Odyssea Academy and helped out his daughter, Valeera. Now, he has reunited with his fellow physician wife who will bear a child very soon. They will be the next wave of humans who will part of our tribe and contribute their works in the village. Please make way to let them come in front with me and the Knightfall family. "
Amnon and Glenda shared glances and got surprised which they were being called by the elder. The crowd followed and made way for them. The others murmured and curiously looked at the physician spouses. They walked over and stood beside the Knightfalls. Christopher and Celine smiled at the other couple. Doctors Montmartre smiled back them and then turned to the village.
" Madame, thank you. We really appreciate your acknowledgement, " Amnon respectfully bowed and hesitantly spoke. " But I'm not sure if I..."
" Doctor Amnon Montmartre, you had looked after Kintor and Valeera as a sign of your respect, kindness, and camarederie. You and your wife, Doctor Glenda Montmartre, took care of Christopher and Celine for bringing their family. Your late father and your surviving mother have remained such harmony, peace, and respect to our people despite the pressures of this country they have faced in decades, " Merrill explained. " It's about time to include you into our tribe, so the both of you can utilize your skills in the healing arts to help the sick and injured in our village. You and your entire family upto your descendants are always welcome to be with us. We are willing to help you. We have heard about what happened to your clinic and your re-employment at the hospital. It's about time to regain from what you have lost. "
" Merci beaucoup, Spasiba, madame. " Amnon replied. " It's an honor to serve your people just like Doctor Durand-Sinclair and the others have done. "
" Same here, my lady, " Glenda added and also bowed. " My husband and I will do our best to provide effective health care service to your people. "
" You're not just ordinary public servants, Doctors Montmartre, " Merrill seriously stated. " You are both mages and warriors in the field of medicine and healing arts. We have considered you as the members of the Dread Wolves Tribe. Welcome, my dear children. "
Celine greeted the other spouses and carried her daughter, " Congratulations, Amnon, Glenda. You're now part of this big family. "
" We will get along, my dear brother! " Christopher grinned and gently knocked Amnon's elbow. " Surely, Cousin Kintor is watching us from above and happy to include you into the tribe! "
" Thanks, guys, " Amnon chuckled and inquisitively thought. " I wonder why me and Glenda are being involved into this tribe? Is it we're continuing Doctor Durand's work in this village? That's one. Is it I'm honoring Kintor's life? Possible. But what's the other reason? "
" Amnon, you okay? " Glenda called her husband's attention. " You seem too silent. Are you overwhelmed? "
" Yeah...I think so, Glen..." he let out a slight laugh.
" Rabbi Mar-Vell, please pray over for their dedication of these two families, " Merrill turned to the Akrovian Ouranist elven priest.
Mar-Vell looked at the crowd and called their attention, " Everyone, let's pray for these two families and dedicate them to the Heavenly Hosts.
The rest of the elven tribe laid their hands and prayed over the Knightfalls and the Montmartres. Elder Merrill also joined in their prayer as well as Fiona and her family. The Akrovian Ouranist elf held his bottle of Holy Water and sprinkled it at the child and her parents and then to the physician spouses.
" To our Great Lady Photis and Her Heavenly Hosts...
We have gathered today for these two families. We offer and dedicate them to be your faithful and loyal servants. Especially, this little girl Callisto Ryliea-Knightfall who is a worthy addition of her family and tribe. Please help her to grow in wisdom, good health, great ability, and stature. I know you have plans for this little young woman. Please make her a lady that you want her to be. Guide her and her parents throughout their lives.
Also we dedicate these human couple, Doctors Amnon Joseph and Glenda Joy Montmartre. Through their deeds and hearts, they have become worthy to be part of the Dread Wolves Tribe. Please use them as your dedicated and responsible servants to all the people they will encounter. Bless them with your good health, wisdom, strength, patience, and generosity. May you guide and help them for their endeavours, especially in raising their upcoming daughter very soon.
These people shall be your instrument of light, love, mercy, and justice with your help and blessing. We thank you as we pray.
Amen and amen. "
As Father Mar-Vell Agapov ended his prayers for them, the rest of the Dread Wolves Tribe happily applauded and cheered for the two families. Elder Merrill Anaedaere sincerely smiled at the Knightfalls and the Montmartres. Fiona, Valeera, and the younger Gravehearts were also happy for them.
" Everyone, our celebration continues with a dance! Enjoy the evening as well as the supper feast and music! " the lady village elder joyfully called out everyone.
The elven band decided their music as the other dancers formed in a circle. The drummer counted using his drumsticks and looked at his band members to pay attention. The clarinetist started his slow instrumental in E major as the lady tambourine player joined him. The people in the circular formation held hands, slowly kicked their legs, and stepped to the left. On the second part of the song, the drummer, violinist, guitarist, and accordionist accompanied the clarinetist and tambourine and played faster than the beginning. The dancers kicked faster than before like they were doing the can-can. As the music's tempo increased speed and volume, the dancers stepped forward making the circle smaller, walked backward and spinned themselves individually returning to a big a circle. They made a loud clap and happily cheered, " Oi!". The song's tempo became the fastest as the dancers again kicked, made the circle smaller, individually rotated to form a big circle, cheered, and clap as it ended. Everyone applauded and whistled.
" More, so I can join this dance! " Valeera joyfully exclaimed and rushed to the dancers, including herself into the circle.
The musicians turned to each other and heard the other dancers chanting to have another round of the same music. Valeera looked at her siblings and thought of including more people to join the circle dance.
" Thorian, bring Uncle Christopher. Azure, please bring Doctor Montmartre with us, " she requested.
" But what about their wives? " Thorian asked.
" Which one is Doctor Montmartre? " Azure chimed in and curiously looked at the physician spouses.
" They're taking care of their child right now, " Valeera replied and turned to Azure. " Azure, it's the tall blonde man with a moustache and has glasses on his face. "
" Oh, right! I'll bring him here! " the youngest sister nodded and quickly rushed.
When the same slow music played, Thorian brought his uncle into the circle. At the same time, Azure approached at the physician spouses. Amnon and Glenda were both clapping at the music and following its beat. She took her magenta scarf and instantly wrapped the general practitioner's legs. Amnon didn't expect a little elven girl who caught him and widened his eyes to his surprise.
" Hey! " he exclaimed in shock and saw her.
" Dance with us! " she happily grinned.
" Go on, you can join her, " Glenda chuckled and continued clapping. " I wish to come, but Emie and I will be bothered and stressed too much. We'll watch you instead! So enjoy! "
" Right...I will..." Amnon hesitantly spoke and nervously grinned when he was being grabbed away.
As more people came into circle, everyone held each other's hand, started with a slow kick, and stepped on the left side. When the music's tempo gradually increased, Amnon and the others made a quick kick. Then, they made themselves closer, formed a small circle, individually spinned, and clapped.
" Oi! " they happily cheered.
The tempo became the fastest as the musicians played joyfully. The circle dancers had kept up to follow the beat and repetitively done the same steps. For Amnon, it was getting too fast and making himself too dizzy, but he was enjoying it. In the past eight to nine months, all he did was fighting along with the contractor guild and Valeera. This time, he was letting off too much steam after all those worst experiences. At this joyous moment, he was letting them go and making himself like a child again. Glenda saw her spouse dancing and cheering along with the others and smiled at him when she was still clapping.
" How I wish Emie is out and all grown up to join with her father at the moment, " she thought and sighed. " I still have fifteen days to give birth to her. "
" You still enjoy seeing your husband circling around with them, " Celine spoke and carried Callisto with her.
" Yeah, " Glenda nodded and watched him and the others spinning and clapping. " It's been a while he has cheered up after those series of unfortunate events in Odyssea and our clinic. I'm glad he has gradually overcome it. "
" Perhaps, your inclusion in this tribe can be beneficial to him and you as well. "
" Definitely. I'm wondering how we can juggle our time here aside from being Emie's parents and physicians before the dream hospital will come to fruition, " Glenda pondered. " I think this is gonna be taxing though. "
" I am pretty sure you and your spouse can manage your time, " Celine smiled and said. " Who knows you can reinstate that dream. "
" Thank you, it will be, " she nodded and turned to Amnon, Christopher, and the others. " Your husband seems enjoying this dance along with them. "
" I remembered him and Kintor used to do that in every feast and enjoyed it. Since this year Kintor is no longer with us, your husband has been doing his late cousin's behalf. "
" It seems to be and he's enjoying it, " Glenda agreed and applauded at the cheering and dancing crowd.
Moments later, the rest of the Dread Wolves tribe had their meal. Amnon and Glenda were eating their share as they spent talking to the Knightfalls and Gravehearts. They continued their discussion while eating and drinking. As Amnon had finished his meal, the lady village elder approached and cordially smiled at him.
" Doctor Amnon Montmartre, can I talk to you in private? " she politely asked.
Glenda looked at her husband with concern and said, " It must be important, Amnon. It's okay. I'll wait while I'm still talking to them. "
Amnon nodded at his wife, stood up, and turned to Elder Merrill. He replied and kissed his wife's left cheek, " Glen, I'll be right back. "
The general practitioner followed Elder Merrill into her tent and entered. She smiled at him and reminded, " Please remove your shoes, Doctor Montmartre. "
" Right, " he affirmed and followed, removing his leather black shoes and placing them at the tent's opening. He walked at the tent's carpeted interior and noticed there were books of spells, scrolls, a large wooden chest, and some bottles and flasks of potions and serums.
" Have a seat, Amnon. " she calmly spoke and offered the doctor a seat on the purple pillow.
Amnon nodded and sat down on the pillow. He looked curiously at her and waited for the village elder to speak up.
" You know I have a phone to call me, " he mused. " But very clever, you could have done that, madame."
" When one is avoiding the attention of the Umbral cultists, you are trying to be discrete and oblivious, " Merrill calmly replied and smiled. " You don't seem very afraid. "
" You don't seem be very frightening, " Amnon responded when the elven village elder chuckled.
" The bravery of a former soldier and dedication of a physician, " she changed her topic, clasped her hands, and looked sternly at him. " You seem to be fitting to be the one whom we are looking for. You obviously have a connection to Eliah Montmartre and Alina Danilovska from your looks and personality. "
Amnon looked at the ceiling a bit and deeply thought. He recalled those names from Kintor and Christopher and tried to search more about them. Then, he replied, " I barely know who they are, madame. "
" Mmm, I met this human couple several centuries ago before you were born, Doctor Montmartre. They were mages of lightning. Alina was a healer and Eliah was a knight, but he did not have healing magic from his lover. I have seen and heard of their relationship and separation. "
" Who are you, madame? "
" I am the village elder of the Dread Wolves Tribe. My name is Merrill Anaedaere and my apologies for not introducing myself. I am just an interested party and supporter. "
Amnon looked apprehensively at her and asked, " Interested on me? Why? "
" You have helped our brother, Kintor Graveheart aside from her daughter. Then, you have been so generous with the Knightfalls. You might consider something to unleash your other side, Doctor Montmartre. "
" And what's that? "
Merrill smiled and replied, " Reviving your inner warrior and that powerful lightning spell inside you. "
" A lightning spell? "
" That has rooted from Eliah and Alina. They are the first bearers of that spell. "
Amnon looked at his both hands and deeply pondered. He respectfully spoke, " With all due respect madame, I have rarely used this ability, but I don't think I can return to fighting. Being a warrior is no longer my scope. "
The village elder frowned and sighed upon hearing the general practitioner's response. Suddenly, Amnon got distracted when he heard a loud and lively music from the outside. He stood up and curiously looked from the outside.
" I hope they are not distracting you, " Merrill calmly broke her silence.
" No, not distracting at all, " he casually replied and sat down.
" Do you plan to continue your search about your ancestors? "
" From what happened in the past few days, I guess I just forget them and move on with some important things and continue my support for the Dread Wolves Tribe. I don't want to be involved in fighting. "
Merrill sighed and spoke a little omniously, " It could be..."
" It couldn't..." Amnon seriously spoke.
" A former Lieutenant and combat medic of the Foranean Army who saved lives in the frontlines of Robania and fought against the Chegarians a decade ago, how can you even forget your origins, Doctor Montmartre? You have left the military service from such terror, " she sternly asked and continued. " Then, you have just returned to Odyssea Academy for your employment, but you ended up working for the contractor's guild, going all over Iliad, and fighting all those sinister and devilish goons. Now, you can maintain your career as a physician and your life as a father, but I'd be happy to give you that armor to regain your honor and fight for your people."
" Why did you bring these up, madame? " he asked.
" Because I have called you to be the knight like Eliah had used to be. "
" In exchange of what? "
" Information about the Umbral cults and their plans, then you and the warriors of the Dread Wolves Tribe will fight against them and defend your people. "
" Why? "
Merrill heavily sighed and crossed her arms, " I worry about this nation and your people. Constantly. "
" Right, " he nodded and replied plainly. " That's nice of you, madame. "
" My people and I have been travelling every nations of Iliad for centuries. We don't have a permanent home, but we found your country as a safe haven. Since I have found a promising warrior here, I would like to give you that armor as a gift. "
" I am sorry, madame...No..." Amnon responded to the village elder's offer.
" But I haven't showed that to you, yet. "
" Please madame, don't bother. "
" You're very respondent! Very quickly! " Elder Merrill briefly laughed.
" No, I'm not interested. I'm sorry..."
The lady village elder looked at him for a moment and casted a spell to read his mind. She was smiling slightly at him and understood.
" You indeed have trust issues and traumatic events, " she calmly spoke, making Amnon a little unnerved from this conversation.
" What are those? "
" Could it be you have encountered the Umbral God of Wrath himself and promised you a gift of power, but you were deceived and costed your life before? Or even seeing the warrioress Marisol who had mentally tortured you back in Hurroka? Or even the worst, the Shuffler of the Carnival had intentionally cut off your right hand? " she sternly asked.
" How did you know all of these?! " Amnon defiantly replied and became tensed.
" I don't mean to bring you discomfort, Doctor Montmartre. You may have gone to a therapist, but you need to unleash your fury of those unfinished businesses and end those skeletons in the closet. "
" Are we done? " he asked and reluctantly spoke. " Look, I think I'm not the right person for this. I'm sorry, Madame Anaedaere. "
Merrill raised her head and seriously looked at Amnon in the eye. Then, she stressed, " You tell me. "
Amnon looked at her for a long moment. He instantly stood up from his seat and thought of leaving her and checking his wife. He turned his back on her and started to wear his shoes back.
" I can imagine that someone has told you cannot save anyone and yourself even there is death. It may come true if you do not act upon it. Somehow, you had started to make that statement as an ultimate belief. That's not going to happen. You have the right to save everyone, " she seriously warned and also stood up. " I can sense such intense bioelectricity spells coming from both of your hands. "
The physician stopped wearing his shoes when his shoulders tensed and dropped. He angrily shook his head a little, became clearly furious, and turned back around the elderly elven woman.
" Pardon moi?! Moye chto?! " he savagely raised his voice in Franken and Luski through his bared teeth. He made sure he would not be intimidated by her.
" Let me see your hand, Doctor Montmartre, " the elder tribe elf calmly and politely requested. " Show me..."
" No, please don't..." he tensedly spoke.
" Did I mention trust issues? " she sincerely smiled and asked him.
Amnon exasperatedly sighed and reluctantly showed his prosthectic right hand to Merrill which he curiously cocked his eyebrows at her. She held the artificial hand to her right and raised her left hand above his. The general practitioner remained baffled and non-speaking which he couldn't deceipher what she was doing.
" Remarkable..." she commented.
" What is it? " he curiously asked and snatched his right hand away.
" You have the hand of both a healer and a warrior, " Merrill serioursly deduced. " I can sense such tensions and trauma that happened in the past. Yet, you are still trembling to overcome from your distress. I know losing a right hand is a great deal to you. "
" Madame, what's wrong with my hand? "
" You are still inhibiting that intense bioelectric spell that has remained intermittent during your missions from your Odyssea's contractor guild days. You're still afraid to use it, however you have done it, " she explained. " Both healing and electric spells are within you. I will respect your ability and let you apply them, however the one you have recently unleashed that powerful spell which reminds me of your ancestors Eliah and Alina. This needs to be developed. "
" What if I am not interested?! " Amnon objected and distressed. " How do you know that?! "
" A brave and dedicated man like you is worthy to be a shell of that inherited spell, but such uncertainties and darkness have left you ignorant of who you really are, Doctor Montmartre. You had been into a trauma and reinvented your life, but you still need to resolve what's missing. You may be haunted by the war, but you need to stop those daemons messing your mind and this nation. "
Amnon remained dead silent when his eyes flickered downward before returning to stare ahead of himself and his face set. He was struggling to hold back his anger and heavily sighing. Merrill gave him a warm smile to ease him and leaned closer to him. Reluctantly, Amnon's eyes leveled down to meet hers.
" Welcome back, Doctor Montmartre, " she lowly whispered. " Or should I say...The Blue Knight. "
Out of his respect, the general practitioner relentedly nodded. Then, he wore back his shoes, left the village elder's tent, looked at the starry night sky, and huffed.
" What on Iliad was she talking about?! " he furiously thought finding the conversation too ridiculous and walked towards the celebrating crowd. " No, I'm not a superhero mage which she has insisted me. I'm just an ordinary physician, a husband and a father. From all the people, why me?! There must be someone else who happened to be the most powerful mage. No, definitely not me..."
Glenda saw her husband coming, instantly embraced him, and sighed in relief, " Cheesecake, thank goodness. What took you so long?! "
" Babe, it's just a talk. Nothing serious, really! " Amnon chuckled and hugged her back, hiding his confusion and anger.
" Are you sure? "
" Yeah, " he nodded and slightly smiled, changing his topic. " Glen, what did I miss? "
" Oh, Valeera, Celine, Fiona, and I spent discussing about visiting this village soon for our medical mission, " she answered. " Well, it's just we need to invite the other doctors and some nurses along with us. "
" Just like Odette did? I may agree on that one, too. "
" Perhaps, in the next feast, we can have our musical exploits together just like the old Odyssea Academy days. What do you think? "
Amnon remained silent once again and overthought of what the village elder had said. Somehow, he realised there was a possibility that he would be that warrior-doctor whom she had awaited for. He was about to say it to his wife, but he felt apprehensive and thought of keeping it a secret. Glenda noticed him and curiously tilted her head.
" Amnon? Did the cat get your tongue? " she called him out.
" No, no! Not at all! " he nervously laughed. " Glen, I think I need something to drink and enjoy watching the band and listening to their music. Who knows? We'll have our chance here to sing and play together as 'The Asclepius Lovebirds.' "
" Oh, you have agreed! " she kissed her spouse's left cheek. " We will do it, of course. "
" Sure, " he nodded and held his wife's hand. " Absolutely looking forward on that. "
